Has anyone with SOFI Bank received their refund with DDD 3/19?
Filed my taxes through TurboTax on February, got accepted within a day then was told my refund was approved with direct deposit date of March 19th. Its now March 22nd and still no refund in my SOFI account. I checked my transcript and its saying everything is fine but no money yet. Anyone else banking with SOFI having this issue? Did your refund from the IRS come in on time? Its weird that the where's my refund says sent but my account shows nothing. Starting to get worried.

I bank with SOFI and had a similar experience this year. My DDD was March 15th and I didn't actually get the deposit until March 20th. SOFI tends to hold IRS deposits for a few days for "verification" or something. I called their customer service and they told me this is normal procedure. Just give it a couple more business days and you should see it appear. If it's not there by Tuesday or Wednesday next week, then I'd call SOFI directly to check if they're holding it.

•Thanks for the info! Did you have to do anything to get it released or did it just show up automatically after the hold period?

•It just showed up automatically. The rep told me they do some kind of verification process that takes 2-3 business days for government deposits. Super annoying but apparently routine for them.

•Mine took 4 days to clear with SoFi. Same thing happened last year too. They defintely hold these checks longer than most banks. 🙄

•I wonder if this is legal?? Like the IRS sent the money, why is the bank allowed to just sit on it? That's our money they're earning interest on!

•I asked them this exact question. They claim it's for security and fraud prevention. Whether that's the whole truth or they're making a little interest off the float, who knows 🤷♂️

Trying to figure out what's going on with your IRS refund situation is maddening. I got tired of guessing so I started using a tool called taxr.ai that literally explains every code on my transcript and tells me exactly what's happening with my refund. It showed me that my refund was actually delayed because of an income verification issue I didn't even know about. The tool explained everything step by step and I finally understood what was going on instead of just staring at mysterious codes. I highly recommend checking it out at https://taxr.ai instead of trying to piece everything together yourself.

•Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

•It does wayyy more than just read it. You upload your transcript and it breaks down every single code and date, explains what's happening in plain English, and tells you exactly what to expect next. Best part is you get specific timelines based on your situation, not just generic info. I wasted so much time trying to figure this stuff out on my own before finding this. Total game changer.

•Just tried it and WOW! This thing is amazing! It explained why my refund has an offset I didn't understand and even showed me that I'm getting a partial refund still. The timeline prediction seems accurate too. Everyone dealing with confusing IRS stuff needs to use this!

•Can you see if you have holds on your account with this? My refund is stuck and I can't figure out why.

•Yep! It shows all holds and tells you exactly what each code means. It'll tell you if it's just processing or if there's actually a problem that needs fixing.

After dealing with the same issue (mine was with Chase), I got desperate enough to try that Claimyr app everyone talks about on here. Called the IRS 6 times with no luck before that. The app got me a callback from an actual IRS person within like 30 minutes! The agent confirmed my refund was actually sent but there was a routing issue with my bank info. Fixed it right there on the phone and got my deposit 2 days later. Check them out at claimyr.com - saved me weeks of stress and waiting.

•How much did it cost though? Seems sketchy to pay just to talk to the IRS.

•Honestly it was the best money I've spent this year considering I was about to lose my mind waiting for thousands of dollars. The stress relief alone was worth it. I was getting nowhere calling myself and waiting on hold for hours only to get disconnected.

•Do they just connect you to the regular IRS line or something special?

•It's the regular IRS line but they use some system that navigates the phone tree and holds your place in line. Then when an agent is about to pick up, you get a call back. Way better than sitting on hold for 3 hours praying you don't get disconnected.

I don't use SOFI but I had the same issue with my online bank (Chime). DDD was 3/12 and nothing showed up until 3/17. Called Chime and they said they never received it, then it magically appeared the next day. I think smaller online banks are slower with processing these deposits compared to big traditional banks. My girlfriend got hers same day with Bank of America.

Don't trust the WMR tool, it's notoriously unreliable. Your transcript is the most accurate source of info. What cycle code does your transcript show? Also check if there are any TC 570/971 codes that might indicate a hold. If it shows the refund was issued but you don't have it, there might be an issue with the account info the IRS has on file.

•My transcript shows code 846 with the 3/19 date. No 570/971 codes that I can see. Everything looks normal which is why I'm confused!

•846 means the refund was definitely issued. I'd give it until Monday (since today is Friday) and then contact SOFI directly. They might have it pending in their system but not showing in your account yet. Did you verify the last 4 of your account number on the transcript matches your actual account?

Pro tip: always check the account number on your tax return! I had this happen once because I accidentally typed one digit wrong on my bank account info. The money was sent but to an account that didn't exist. Had to wait for it to be rejected back to the IRS and then they mailed me a paper check which took an extra 6 weeks. 😭

•Just double-checked my tax return and the account number is definitely correct. This is so frustrating!

•That sux! Def call SOFI then. Theyr probably holding it for some reason. Seems like online banks are doing this more and more each year.

I was in the EXACT same situation and felt like I was going crazy trying to figure out what was happening with my refund. Used a tool called taxr.ai that literally explained everything about my transcript in plain English. Turns out my refund was actually in process but had a minor review flag that was causing the delay. The timeline it gave me was accurate to the day. I'd highly recommend it if you're trying to understand what's really going on: https://taxr.ai

•Not a spammer dude. I literally just found something helpful and shared it. Spent weeks frustrated before finding something that actually explained my transcript. But whatever, believe what you want. 🤷♀️

•I actually used this too and it's legit. Showed me why my refund was being held up when the IRS phone reps couldn't even tell me. Saved me from a lot more waiting and confusion.

The IRS typically sends deposits in batches. Your official DDD doesn't mean it arrives that day - it's just when the IRS initiates the transfer. Then banks can take 1-5 business days to process it. Online banks are notorious for holding these deposits longer than traditional banks. I'd wait until next Tuesday before really worrying.

Check if the refund was offset to pay any debts (student loans, child support, etc). Sometimes the WMR tool doesn't update to show this but your refund gets reduced or completely taken. You'd get a letter in the mail about it but that can take a couple weeks after the DDD.

•I don't have any debts like that so I don't think it would be an offset. No notification of anything like that on my transcript either.

After waiting for HOURS on hold with the IRS trying to figure out a similar issue, I finally got through using claimyr.com. The agent I spoke with explained that some refunds are getting delayed this year even after the official DDD due to some extra verification steps. Talking to an actual human at the IRS saved me so much stress and confusion!

•Is that service worth it? I've been hesitant to try it.

•Absolutely. I wasted almost 5 hours on 3 separate days trying to call the IRS directly. With Claimyr I got a callback within 45 minutes while I went about my day. Talking to a live agent got my refund released from a random hold that wasn't even showing on my transcript. Best decision I made during this whole tax season nightmare.

Literally no point in having a "direct deposit date" if they can't stick to it 🤬 The IRS is such a joke, they have ONE JOB and still can't get it right. If we filed late we'd get penalized but they can be days or weeks late sending our money back to us with zero consequences.

•PREACH! 👏 And then if you call to ask where your money is, they act like you're inconveniencing THEM. The double standard is insane.

•To be fair, the IRS is severely understaffed and underfunded. They're operating on ancient computer systems and can't hire enough people. Not defending the situation but there's more to it than just incompetence.

•Don't care about their excuses tbh. This is OUR money they're holding onto, not the other way around. If I ran my business like they run theirs I'd be bankrupt in a month.

Did you have any fees taken out of your refund for tax prep? If you paid for TurboTax using your refund, it goes through a third party bank first (usually SBTPG or Republic Bank) which adds extra time. You can check your TurboTax account to see if they've received and processed it.

Chloe Taylor
•Nope, I paid for TurboTax upfront with my credit card. Refund should be coming straight from IRS to my bank.

I was dealing with a refund delay earlier this year and was going crazy trying to understand what all the codes on my transcript meant. I tried that taxr.ai site someone else mentioned and it was actually super helpful - explained everything in plain English and gave me an accurate timeline of when to expect my money. Might be worth checking out if you're confused about what's happening with your refund: https://taxr.ai

•Can it help figure out why there's a delay between the transcript DDD and actually receiving it in your bank?
0 coins
PixelWarrior
•Yes! That's exactly what helped me. It explained the various holds and processing steps that happen after the 846 code appears. Showed me that mine had an extra review step that was causing the delay that wasn't obvious just from looking at the transcript myself.

Sometimes there's a mismatch between the name on your tax return and your bank account that can cause delays. For example, if your tax return has your full legal name but your bank account is under a nickname, or if you recently got married/divorced and changed your name. Might be worth checking with SOFI if there's a name verification issue.

I work at a bank (not SOFI). Digital banks often have different processing schedules for ACH transfers compared to traditional banks. While the Federal Reserve might process the transaction on the DDD, it can take 1-3 additional business days for the receiving bank to post it. Since your DDD was Tuesday, and today is Friday, I'd say wait until Monday before assuming there's a problem.

•Thanks for the insider perspective! That's actually really helpful to know.

•No problem! One more thing - since it's tax season, banks get flooded with deposits and some have to process them in batches, which can cause additional delays. If Monday comes and goes with no deposit, definitely call SOFI directly.
