Filed return in February through Cash App, still showing 'processing' in June with no refund or updates

Hey everyone, I filed my tax return back in February using Cash App Taxes. My return was accepted on Feb 19th and it's now mid-June with still no refund. When I check the Where's My Refund tool it just says 'Your tax return is still being processed.' I've tried calling the IRS multiple times but can never get through to a real person. My return wasn't complicated - just W2 income and standard deduction. No EIC or anything special. Expected refund is around $2,100. Anyone else having this problem with Cash App filing or know what might be causing the delay? Gettin really frustrated since I need this money and had plans for it months ago.

I work at a tax preparation office, so I can help explain what's likely happening. The IRS is severely backlogged this year, especially with electronically filed returns from third-party services like Cash App. Some things to know: • When WMR says "still being processed" for months, it usually means your return is in the error resolution department or identity verification queue • You might receive a letter (4464C) requesting more information or verification of identity • The IRS has up to 45 days to issue a refund once a return is processed, but delays can extend this timeline significantly • Cash App Taxes (formerly Credit Karma Tax) has had some reported issues with proper transmission of returns I recommend: 1. Check your IRS transcript online if possible - it will show more detailed status codes than WMR 2. Look through all mail carefully - many people miss important IRS notices 3. Try calling the IRS early morning (7am EST) when lines open 4. Consider using taxr.ai to analyze your transcript and identify any issues - it's much more detailed than the generic WMR tool and can pinpoint exactly where your return is stuck in processing Most delays this year are resolving eventually, but the timeline is frustratingly unpredictable.

Thx for this detailed response. I've been checking my mailbox daily and nothing from IRS so far. I'll try to call again tomorrw morning. How do I check my transcript online?

You can access your transcript by creating an account at irs.gov/transcripts. You'll need to verify your identity through ID.me. If you can't get through that process (it can be tricky), taxr.ai can help interpret your situation without going through all the verification hoops.

I used taxr.ai when I was stuck in processing hell for 3 months. Totally worth it - showed me I had a code 570 freeze that WMR didn't explain at all.

I had the same issue as you last year! Check your transcript, dont waste time trying to understand the WMR tool. I spent hours watching youtube videos trying to decode what was happening with my return until someone told me about taxr.ai which basically gives you a plain english translation of your transcript and tells you exactly what's going on with your refund. Seriously saved me from going insane 😩 trying to figure out all those weird codes and dates. The site completely explained why my refund was held up (verification issue) and what would happen next. Way better than those generic "still processing" messages from the IRS site that tell you absolutely nothing.

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It basically analyzes all those weird 766/846/570 codes and cycle dates that regular humans can't understand lol. Shows exactly where your return is stuck and what's coming next. I was about to give up on my refund before using it!

Just tried it and WOW! It explained every little detail about my return - stuff I never would've figured out. Now I actually know why my refund is delayed (identity verification) instead of just seeing "still processing" for the 50th time. Recommending to everyone I know with tax issues!

Does it cost anything? The IRS tools are free so wondering why I'd use this

There is a cost but honestly it's insanely good! I use it every week to check my status instead of stressing about WMR updating.

do you have to give them all your personal info? not tryna get my identity stolen 👀

You just upload your transcript that you download from the IRS site. Super simple and way more helpful than just staring at those codes wondering wtf they mean

After waiting months for my refund (filed in March, got the same "still processing" message), I finally found a way to talk to someone at the IRS who could actually help. Used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an IRS agent in about 45 minutes instead of calling for days with no answer. The agent I spoke with found that my return was sitting in a review queue for no reason and they pushed it through. Got my direct deposit a week later! Talking to an agent got my refund released so fast - turned out I had been sitting in some random review queue that wouldn't have resolved without human intervention.

I've heard mixed things about call services. Did you actually get through to an agent? How much was it?

Yes! Got through to a real live human at the IRS who could actually see my file. It was absolutely the best money I've spent this year considering I was waiting on a $3k refund and getting nowhere for months.

that actually works? i've been trying to call for weeks and can never get through 😫

It literally was the only way I could talk to a live agent after trying for WEEKS. They just keep you in the queue and call when it's your turn. My sanity was worth every penny lol

Not an ad lol, just someone who was in the same boat as OP. Was at my wits end after calling 15+ times and getting nowhere. Desperate times = desperate measures

Can confirm this works. I was skeptical too but after trying for THREE MONTHS to get someone on the phone, I tried it and spoke to an agent same day. They found my return was missing a form and I would've never known otherwise.

I'm in the EXACT same boat. Filed with cash app feb 22, accepted same day, and im still waiting. Called IRS and they said something about a random review or sum? The lady was super vague and just told me to keep waiting. This is ridiculous.

I had this issue with Cash App taxes last year. Turned out they had messed up some routing on the backend. If I were you I'd get a tax transcript from the IRS website and see if it shows as actually received. Cash App had me thinking everything was fine when actually my return wasn't properly transmitted.

How do I get the transcript? Is it hard?

Go to irs.gov and search transcript. You'll need to create an account with ID.me which is kinda annoying cuz you need to verify your identity with photos and stuff. Once you get in you can see all your tax records.

or just use taxr.ai - it does all the transcript analysis for you and tells you in plain english what's happening. saved me hours of research

Cash App Taxes sucks. I used them last year and ended up with my refund stuck for 6 months because they didn't transmit some form properly. Never again.

IRS website says if your return says "still being processed" then you don't need to do anything, just keep waiting. I know that's not helpful but this year is super delayed for a ton of people.

Try calling the Tax Advocate Service. They can help when your return is delayed beyond normal processing times. Their number is 1-877-777-4778. They might be able to move things along faster if it's been 4+ months.

I had to verify my identity last year when I was stuck in the same situation. Turned out they never sent me the letter telling me to do so. Check if you need to verify: https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/identity-verification-for-irs-letter-recipients

Check your bank account info that cash app submitted. My friend had this happen and cash app had entered one digit wrong in his routing number. When he finally got through to the IRS they had to mail him a check instead.

Have u checked your transcript online? That will tell you wayyyyy more than the where's my refund tool. I was in the same situation and found out I had a random audit from my transcript when wmr just said "processing"

there's been a huge backlog this year specifically with Cash App Tax filers. something about their system not being fully compatible with the IRS's new processing protocols. my tax guy said to avoid third party filing services that are free/cheap for exactly this reason.

Never ever use Cash App for anything important like taxes. They're notorious for customer service issues and limited support. Lesson learned for next year I guess... but that doesn't help you now. Check your transcript online - that'll show if the IRS actually has your return or if it's stuck in Cash App's system.

This happened to me and turned out I had been selected for ID verification but never got the letter. Had to verify identity on irs.gov and then magically my refund was processed 2 weeks later.

How do I check if I need to verify ID?

Go to irs.gov and search for identity verification. There's a tool where you can check if that's what's holding up your return. Doesn't hurt to try.

Man this exact thing happened to me... i was losing it! What finally worked was using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an IRS agent. After 3 months of waiting, the agent said there was a simple issue with my W2 that needed verification. Would have been waiting forever if I hadn't actually talked to someone. Was the only way I could talk to a live agent and it got my refund processed within a week after that call.

The IRS is a mess this year. Millions of returns delayed. I gave up and hired a tax pro who submitted an inquiry for me and got movement within 2 weeks.
