Why is my tax return delayed? No record found on IRS website even though I filed
Title: Why is my tax return delayed? No record found on IRS website even though I filed 1 I'm super confused and starting to panic a bit here. So I filed my taxes on February 6th through Cash App and got confirmation that both my federal and state returns were approved. Great, right? But when I checked my status on the IRS website today, it says they have NO RECORD of me filing for 2024! How is that even possible?? I called the IRS (which was a nightmare btw) and after giving them my social, filing status, and expected refund amount, the person just told me that my return "was being delayed longer than usual." That's it - no explanation, no timeline, nothing! Does anyone know what might be going on? Is this a common issue with Cash App tax filing? I really need that refund money soon and now I'm worried something got messed up. How do I find out the actual reason for the delay? I've never had this happen before and I'm getting really anxious about it.

3 This happens more often than you'd think, especially with third-party tax services. Don't panic yet! When the IRS says they don't have a record, it usually means one of three things: First, there could be a processing delay. The IRS is still working through a backlog, and sometimes returns get placed in a queue for manual review. This can happen randomly or if there's something on your return that triggered additional verification. Second, there might have been a transmission issue between Cash App and the IRS. The approval you received from Cash App only means they successfully submitted it, not that the IRS processed it. Third, there could be a simple mismatch in information that's causing the "no record found" message when you check online - like a typo in your SSN or name format. The good news is that the IRS confirmed they have your return when you called since they mentioned a delay. That means it's in their system somewhere, just not fully processed yet.

•7 Thanks for explaining that. Do you know how long these manual reviews typically take? And is there anything I can do to speed things up? I was counting on that money for some car repairs.

•3 The timeframe for manual reviews varies widely - anywhere from 2-8 weeks beyond the normal processing time. Unfortunately, there's not much you can do to speed it up directly. The best action you can take is to call the IRS again and specifically ask if there's any additional information they need from you or if there's a specific reason for the delay. Sometimes they can see notes on your account that weren't mentioned in your first call.

12 I had almost the exact same issue last year after filing through a different tax app. The "Where's My Refund" tool showed nothing for weeks while my friends got their refunds. I discovered taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai) after frantically searching for help online, and it was seriously a game-changer. Their system analyzed my tax situation and gave me insight into what was actually happening with my return. Turns out my return was flagged for identity verification (something the IRS never bothered to tell me directly). The taxr.ai report showed exactly what was causing the delay and gave me step-by-step instructions on how to resolve it. I uploaded my documents through their system and they interpreted everything correctly - even caught that I had entered my employer EIN incorrectly which was part of the holdup.

•19 Does this actually work with Cash App filed returns too? I'm in the same boat as OP and getting desperate. Can it tell you exactly where in the process your return is stuck?

•14 I'm kinda skeptical. How does some third-party site have more info than the IRS's own tools? Seems fishy that they'd know things the actual IRS agents couldn't tell you when you called.

•12 Yes, it absolutely works with returns filed through Cash App, TurboTax, or any other tax preparation service. The tool analyzes your filing based on the documentation you provide, not based on who you filed with. They don't actually have "more info" than the IRS - what they do is analyze your tax documents and use pattern recognition to identify common issues that typically cause delays. Their system is designed to interpret the cryptic IRS codes and translate them into plain English explanations. They helped me identify exactly which form was causing my holdup when the IRS phone rep wouldn't specify.

14 Well I feel dumb for being skeptical. I finally tried taxr.ai after my return was stuck for over 3 weeks with no updates. Their analysis tool immediately identified that my return was flagged because of an education credit discrepancy between what my university reported and what I claimed. The IRS never mentioned this when I called them TWICE! Once I knew the actual issue, I was able to submit the correct documentation through their guided process and my refund was approved within 5 days. I was seriously about to give up thinking my money was just gone into the IRS black hole. Wish I hadn't waited so long to try it.

6 If you're still trying to get through to the IRS directly (which I recommend), try using Claimyr (https://claimyr.com). I was in a similar situation - filed in early February, no updates on Where's My Refund, couldn't get a human on the phone at the IRS no matter what time I called. Someone on Reddit suggested Claimyr and I was skeptical, but desperate. They have a system that navigates the IRS phone tree for you and holds your place in line. When an agent is actually available, they call you back. I was able to speak with a real IRS agent in about 35 minutes instead of spending hours on hold myself. You can see how it works here: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c The agent I talked to was able to tell me my return was flagged for income verification (which the website never indicated) and I needed to submit additional documentation. At least I finally knew what was happening!

•22 Wait how does this work exactly? Do you give them your personal info? Seems kinda weird to have some random service calling the IRS for you.

•9 This sounds too good to be true. I've spent literally HOURS on hold with the IRS just to get disconnected. There's no way this actually works...right?

•6 They don't call the IRS "for you" - they basically secure your place in line and then connect you directly with the IRS agent when one becomes available. You don't share any personal tax info with Claimyr at all. You just enter your phone number on their website, they call you when they've navigated the phone tree and secured a spot with an agent, and then you talk directly to the IRS. They're just solving the horrible hold time problem. When I used it, I was literally getting ready to give up after being disconnected twice after 45+ minute holds.

9 I'm honestly shocked. After reading about Claimyr here I decided to try it since I was in the exact same situation as OP. I had spent THREE DAYS trying to reach someone at the IRS about my delayed refund. Used the service yesterday and got a call back in 47 minutes. The IRS agent told me my return was held up because they needed to verify my identity - something I would have NEVER known from the "Where's My Refund" tool that just kept saying "still processing." I was able to complete the identity verification while on the phone with them, and they told me to expect my refund within 9 days. Would have been waiting forever if I hadn't finally gotten through to a human. Cannot believe how well this worked after all my failed attempts.

17 Check if you have access to your tax transcript on the IRS website. Sometimes that will show codes that explain what's happening even when Where's My Refund doesn't show anything useful. Look for codes like 570 (additional account action pending) or 971 (notice issued). These can give you clues about why there's a delay. Also, did you claim any tax credits like Earned Income Tax Credit or Additional Child Tax Credit? Those automatically delay processing until at least mid-February.

•1 I just tried to get my transcript but it says they can't provide it online for me... which seems like another bad sign. And no, I didn't claim either of those credits - pretty straightforward return with just a W-2 and student loan interest deduction. That's why I'm so confused about what could be causing this!

•17 Not being able to access your transcript online doesn't necessarily mean anything bad - the IRS verification system is really strict and sometimes rejects legitimate requests. You can request a mailed transcript, though that obviously takes time. For a straightforward return like yours, the delay could be something as simple as a name/SSN mismatch with their records, or potentially an income verification check if your W-2 information hasn't matched up exactly with what your employer reported. The fact that you claimed student loan interest might be relevant - sometimes those get additional scrutiny.

5 Has anyone had issues specifically with Cash App tax filing? I've used them for the past two years and never had issues until now. Wondering if this is a Cash App problem or just normal IRS delays?

•24 I used Cash App this year too and my refund came in 8 days with no issues. But my sister used it and has been waiting 5 weeks now. I think it's more about what's on your specific return than the filing service itself.

I went through something very similar last year - filed early February, got the "approved" confirmation from my tax software, then weeks of "no record found" on the IRS website. It's absolutely maddening! Here's what I learned: the IRS system is basically broken in terms of communication. When they say "no record found" online but then acknowledge your return exists when you call, it usually means your return is sitting in some kind of review queue that doesn't show up in their public-facing system. A few things that might help: - Try calling the IRS again and ask specifically for your "account transcript" - sometimes different agents have access to different information - If you have any tax documents from your employer or school, double-check that all the numbers match exactly what you reported - Keep detailed records of every conversation with the IRS, including dates and what they told you The waiting is brutal, especially when you're counting on that money. But in my experience, these delays almost always resolve eventually - it's just a matter of the IRS working through their backlog. Hang in there!

I'm dealing with the exact same frustration right now! Filed through TurboTax in early February and it's been radio silence from the IRS for over a month. The "Where's My Refund" tool is completely useless - just keeps saying "still being processed" with no timeline or explanation. What's really annoying is that I know people who filed weeks after me and already got their refunds. It feels so random and unfair, especially when you're counting on that money for important expenses. I've been hesitant to call the IRS because I keep hearing horror stories about the wait times, but reading these comments makes me think I need to bite the bullet and try to get through to someone who can actually tell me what's going on. The not knowing is honestly worse than just being told there's a problem that needs to be fixed. Thanks for posting this - at least now I know I'm not the only one going through this nightmare!
