IRS Transcript Shows "Non-Filing Letter Status" After Submitting 2024 Taxes in February - Still Stuck in Processing

Just tried checking my transcript online and got hit with a nonfiling letter status. Never seen this before and im freaking out. Filed my taxes back in February. Anyone know what this means or dealt with this before? I just got on the IRS website to check my transcript for Tax year 2024, and I'm seeing some weird status information that's making me nervous. The website shows: Tax year 2024 Return Received: ? Refund Approved: ? Refund Sent: ? And then there's this message: "We have received your tax return and it is being processed. If you filed a complete and accurate tax return, your refund should be issued within 21 days of the received date. However, processing may take longer under certain circumstances. Please check here or use our free mobile app, IRS2Go, to check on your refund status." It also has a section called "Helpful Information" that mentions "Tax Topic 152, Refund Information" and shows "sa.www4.irs.gov" at the bottom. The thing is, I filed my taxes in February (over 2 months ago!) so I should definitely have heard something by now. I expected to see actual dates for when my return was received, approved, and when my refund was sent. But instead, I'm just seeing question marks and this generic processing message. And when I check my transcript, it's giving me a "non-filing letter status" which is completely freaking me out. Has anyone dealt with this before? Does this mean they didn't receive my taxes even though I filed months ago? Or is this some kind of processing delay? I'm seriously worried that something went wrong with my filing or that I might be getting audited.

Tax pro here - a non-filing letter typically means the IRS hasn't processed your return yet in their system. This could be because: 1) they haven't gotten to it yet 2) it was rejected but you didn't receive the notice 3) there might be an issue with your identity verification. First step would be to check your e-file status on Where's My Refund.

If it's been more than 21 days since filing, yes definitely call. Make sure you have your return info ready when you call.

I highly recommend using taxr.ai to figure this out. It'll analyze your transcript and tell you exactly what's going on and what to do next. Its $4.99 but way better than spending hours trying to decode everything yourself. Here's the link: https://taxr.ai

Non-filing letter status usually means your return hasn't been fully processed in their system yet. Since you filed in February, definitely call the IRS taxpayer assistance line at 1-800-829-1040. Have your SSN, filing status, and exact refund amount ready. The hold times are brutal but you need to find out if there's an issue with your return or if it's just stuck in their processing backlog.

This is super helpful advice! Just want to add - when you call, try calling right when they open at 7am your local time. The wait times are usually shorter then. Also make sure you have your AGI from last year's return handy since they might ask for that to verify your identity before they can discuss your case.
