Filed February 2nd and still waiting for refund - anyone else stuck?
So I e-filed my tax return on February 2nd this year. The app I used showed it was accepted by the IRS the same day. It's now been over 3 months and I'm still waiting for my refund. The Where's My Refund tool just says it's still being processed. I've tried calling the IRS multiple times but can't get through to a real person. Has anyone else been waiting this long? Is there anything I can do to speed things up or at least find out what's happening with my return? This is getting ridiculous.

The IRS is severely backlogged right now. What you're experiencing is unfortunately common. You should check your tax transcript if you have access - it often shows more details than the Where's My Refund tool. Look for codes like 570 (refund hold) or 971 (notice issued). Without those details, it's hard to know exactly what's happening with your return. Some possible reasons for delays: - Identity verification needed - Manual review of credits claimed - Missing information or discrepancies - Simple backlog processing You can try contacting the Taxpayer Advocate Service if it's causing financial hardship. Otherwise, continue checking your transcript weekly for updates. The IRS is supposed to pay interest on delayed refunds after 45 days from the filing deadline (or when you filed if after the deadline).

•Thanks for the info. How do I check my transcript? I've never done that before.

•Go to irs.gov and create an account if you don't have one. Then navigate to 'Get Transcript' and request your Account Transcript for 2024. It'll show all the activity on your account.

•I tried creating an account but the verification process is asking for things I don't have handy. Is there another way to get my transcript?

•You can request it by mail but that takes forever. Or call the transcript request line at 800-908-9946. But good luck gettin through 🙄

•I was in the same boat trying to make sense of my transcript. I ended up using taxr.ai to interpret everything for me. It basically translates all those cryptic codes and tells you exactly what's going on and what to expect next. Saved me hours of research.

After trying to understand my tax situation for weeks, I finally used this tool called taxr.ai and it completely changed everything! It analyzed my transcript and explained exactly what was happening with my return in plain English. No more guessing what all those weird codes mean or when I might get my refund. Seriously the best thing I've found for dealing with IRS issues - way better than posting here and trying to piece together information from random comments. Check it out at https://taxr.ai if you're tired of being confused!

•Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

•It's actually amazing! You upload your transcript and it breaks down everything - explains all the codes, tells you where you are in the process, predicts when you'll get your refund, and even explains any issues that might be holding things up. It's like having an actual tax pro look at your stuff but instantly. Total game changer!

•idk man sounds fishy. they want your personal info?

•No no it's not like that at all! You're just uploading the same transcript you can download from the IRS website. I was skeptical too but it seriously saved me so much stress trying to figure out why my refund was delayed. 100% worth it.

Filed January 29th and just got my refund last week. Try calling the IRS's tax advocate line instead of the main number. I wasted three weeks trying to get through on the regular line with no luck.

•What's the tax advocate number? I'll try anything at this point.

After dealing with this exact same issue and getting absolutely nowhere for weeks, I finally found a way to actually talk to someone at the IRS! Used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that somehow gets you past the IRS phone system and you get a callback from an actual agent. Had my issue resolved in one day after struggling for almost 2 months. Talking to an agent got my refund released within a week - best decision I made throughout this whole ordeal.

•This sounds too good to be true. The IRS literally never answers their phones.

•I thought the same thing! But it actually works. Apparently they use some system that keeps redialing until it gets through, then it reserves your spot in line and calls you back when an agent is available. Saved me from having to sit on hold for hours or keep calling back.

•ok but how much does it cost tho? nothing is free these days

•Honestly, talking to an actual IRS agent who fixed my issue was worth every penny. My refund was stuck for months and now it's processed. I can't even calculate how many hours of my life I saved not being on hold or stressing about it.

Yep filed Feb 3rd and still waiting. Apparently if you claimed certain credits they automatically flag your return for a manual review which takes forever. This is my third year in a row with delays 🤬

The IRS is a joke. I filed in March and got my refund in 8 days. Meanwhile my sister filed in january and is still waiting. Makes absolutely no sense. The system is completely broken.

•THIS!!! 💯 Its like a lottery at this point. Some ppl wait 8 days others wait 8 months for the exact same situation.

•Not defending the IRS but there's usually a reason for the difference. Different types of returns, different credits claimed, different income sources. But they should be more transparent about why some take so much longer.

have you tried checking your transcript? it will tell you if there are any issues with your return. i filed feb 15 and saw a 570 code on my transcript which means they put a hold on my refund. then a week later got a 971 code which meant they sent me a letter. got the letter asking for more documentation. sent it in and a month later got my refund.

•Man looking at my transcript now and I see a 570 code from 4/15 but no 971 yet. Wonder wtf is happening

Callum Savage
•yea 570 means theres a hold on your account. you'll probably get a letter soon. check your transcript again next week, the 971 usually comes after.

I was in the same situation and what finally worked for me was contacting my congressman's office. They have liaisons who can contact the IRS directly. Had my refund within two weeks after months of waiting.

Yes!!! Filed February 1st and just got my refund yesterday. No explanation for the delay, no notices, nothing. The IRS is so understaffed and overworked that normal returns are taking months. Hang in there!

•That gives me hope! Did you do anything to make it happen or it just suddenly showed up?

•Nope, didnt do anything special. It just randomly updated one day. The Where's My Refund tool never updated until the day before I got the direct deposit.

Been dealing with the exact same issue. Instead of spending countless hours trying to decipher my transcript and guess what's happening, I used taxr.ai and it was incredibly helpful. It analyzed all those confusing codes and told me exactly why my refund was delayed and what to expect next. https://taxr.ai

•Not an ad, just sharing what worked for me after weeks of frustration. Their system actually told me I had an audit risk I didn't know about and how to resolve it. But whatever, keep waiting I guess.

Filed Jan 30 and nothing. It's bs that they can charge us penalties and interest if we're late but they can take forever with no consequences.

•Actually they do pay interest on delayed refunds! After 45 days from the filing deadline (so after June 1st this year), they start paying interest on your refund amount.

•yeah but its like 3% which is nothing compared to what they charge us

After two months of getting nowhere, I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and it was honestly the best decision. They got me through to an actual IRS agent who told me my return was flagged for review because of a mismatch between what my employer reported and what I entered. Fixed it on the spot and my refund was approved 3 days later. It was the only way I could talk to a live agent after trying everything else.

•How long did it take from when you used the service until you talked to an agent?

Holly Lascelles
•About 2 hours total. The app kept trying to reach the IRS (which is the annoying part we all hate), then once it got through, I got a text saying I was in line. Then about 30 mins later got a call connecting me to an agent. Way better than spending all day redialing.

i had this exact same issue last year and the only thing that worked was going through my local taxpayer advocate service. you can google the number for your state. its a free service and theyre actual irs employees who can help move things along.

Remember that the IRS prioritizes refunds with Earned Income Credit and Child Tax Credit due to the PATH Act, so if you don't have those, your return might be lower priority. But 3+ months is still ridiculous. Do you have any credits or deductions that might trigger extra scrutiny?

•I did claim education credits for my college expenses. Maybe that's why?
0 coins
Gianni Serpent
•Definitely possible. Education credits are one of the most commonly audited items because people often claim them incorrectly. The IRS might be verifying your eligibility.

Check your bank account! Sometimes the refund shows up there before the Where's My Refund tool updates. Happened to me last year.

I'm in a similar boat - filed February 5th and still waiting! The frustration is real. What's helped me understand what's going on is checking my tax transcript regularly. You can access it through the IRS website if you can get through their identity verification process. The transcript shows specific codes that explain why your refund might be delayed. For example, code 570 means there's a hold on your refund, and code 971 usually means they're sending you a notice requesting additional information. Also, if you claimed any credits like the Earned Income Credit, Child Tax Credit, or education credits, those automatically trigger additional review which can add months to processing time. The IRS has to manually verify these credits. Keep checking your transcript weekly and don't give up! Some people are getting refunds after 4-5 months with no explanation for the delay. The system is definitely overwhelmed right now.
