Filed 2/7 and WMR Still Shows No Movement - Anyone Else?
I e-filed on 2/7/2024 with meticulous attention to detail, including all necessary documentation for my amended paperwork from a previous error. It's now been 47 days with zero movement on Where's My Refund. The status bar hasn't progressed beyond "Return Received." Has anyone else who filed around February 7th experienced similar delays? Is this normal for the current processing timeframe? I'm curious about the specific processing times for returns with amendments or corrections. Should I be contacting the IRS at this point, or is this still within standard processing parameters?

I filed on 2/3 and was in the same boat until yesterday. My WMR just updated after almost 8 weeks of nothing. Your situation reminds me of what happened to my sister last year - she had amended some paperwork too and it took even longer. The IRS seems particularly backed up this season compared to last year. Have you checked your tax transcript online? Sometimes that shows movement even when WMR doesn't update.

I filed on February 5th and my transcript finally updated on March 20th, but WMR still shows nothing. Is that normal for there to be that gap between transcript updates and WMR updates?

Thanks for mentioning the transcript check! I completely forgot about that resource. Just checked the IRS website and found the transcript section. Going to try that approach tomorrow when I have all my verification info ready.

I've been checking my transcript daily using the exact same login credentials and noticed a TC 570 code appeared on March 26th. The code indicates a temporary hold was placed on my refund for further review. Has anyone else experienced this specific hold code with amended returns? My understanding is that it's common with documentation verification.

Amended returns take longer. Much longer. Average processing time is 16 weeks. Not days. WMR doesn't track amended returns properly. You need to use Where's My Amended Return tool instead. Different system entirely. Check that instead.

Just to clarify - it sounds like OP filed a 2023 return in 2024 with corrections to prior submissions, not an actual 1040-X amended return. If that's the case, the regular WMR tool should work, but processing times might still be longer than standard returns.

There are several important distinctions here: • Regular return with corrections = use WMR • Form 1040-X amended return = use WMAR • Current year corrections = faster processing • Prior year amendments = 16+ week timeline • Documentation verification = additional 45 days possible The key is determining exactly what type of correction was submitted.

I waited exactly 73 days for my refund last year with a similar situation. Has anyone confirmed whether the 16-week timeline is still accurate for 2024 processing? The IRS website says 20 weeks now for some amendments.

I'm an over-preparer and went through this exact situation last tax season. Here's what worked for me: Step 1: I checked my transcript first to see if there was any movement that wasn't showing on WMR. Step 2: After seeing a hold code, I tried calling the IRS regular number for three days straight with no success. Step 3: I used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to actually reach an agent instead of getting disconnected. Step 4: The agent confirmed my return was in the verification queue due to my amended information. Step 5: They gave me an estimated completion date and noted my account. The service saved me from the endless redial loop, and I got clear answers about my specific situation. For amended or corrected returns, speaking directly to an agent is often the only way to get accurate information.

I'm always a bit hesitant about paying for services that should technically be free. Did you try the dedicated amended return hotline before using Claimyr? I've heard some people have better luck with that specific number, though I suppose it depends on the time of year.

It might be worth noting that returns with certain elements tend to experience longer processing times. If you claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit or Child Tax Credit, for instance, there could be additional verification steps. Similarly, if your amended information affects any credits or deductions, the IRS may be cross-referencing your documentation. In my experience, returns with amendments filed in February typically don't see movement until April or May, especially during high-volume processing periods.

I claimed the Child Tax Credit and filed on February 8th. My transcript just updated yesterday with a DDD of April 3rd. So that's almost exactly 8 weeks from filing to deposit date. Not sure if that helps as a reference point.

Think of tax return processing like traffic merging onto a highway. Regular returns are like standard vehicles moving through quickly, while amended returns are like oversized trucks that require special handling and different lanes. The IRS processing system is like that highway with different processing queues. Your return is likely in a specialized review queue because of the amendments. The best approach is to check your tax transcript online, which shows a more detailed view of your return's journey through the system. It's like having access to traffic cameras instead of just waiting at your destination wondering where your package is. If your transcript shows codes like 570/971, your return is being actively worked on. If it shows nothing or N/A, it's still in the initial processing queue waiting to be assigned to a reviewer.

My transcript shows code 570 dated 03-25-2024 and code 971 dated 04-01-2024. Does this specific combination indicate they're sending a notice explaining the hold? I'm trying to determine if I should expect a letter or if this is just standard processing.

Oh my god I'm in the EXACT same situation and I'm freaking out!! 😫 I filed on February 9th with corrections to my W-2 and NOTHING has happened! I check WMR literally every morning and it's stuck on the first bar. I'm so worried something is wrong with my return! Last year I got my refund in like 2 weeks, but this year it's been almost two months and I'm getting really anxious because I need that money for car repairs. Has anyone had their return just suddenly appear after being stuck for this long? I'm starting to lose hope... 😞

Have you tried checking your tax transcript instead of just WMR? Sometimes the transcript shows activity even when WMR doesn't update. You can access it through the IRS website under 'Get Transcript.'

I filed on February 5th and was stuck with no movement until last week. What finally worked for me was calling the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service instead of the main line. I explained I was experiencing financial hardship waiting for my refund (which was true - needed it for medical bills), and they were able to check on my return status. Turns out my return was flagged for a simple verification that could have been resolved weeks ago if someone had just told me. After that call, my WMR updated within 48 hours. The regular customer service lines are practically useless this time of year.
