Filed on 02/09 with TurboTax - Still No Movement After 42 Days
I e-filed exactly 42 days ago on February 9th using TurboTax, and I've seen absolutely zero movement on my return. I've been checking WMR every 48 hours, transcript daily, and even called the automated line 3 times. Nothing has changed since day one. I'm juggling work and three kids' schedules, so I really need to know if I should be doing something else or just continue waiting. Has anyone else filed around the same time and still waiting? I'm trying to determine if this is just normal processing delays or if I should take additional steps at this point. My refund isn't huge but it's earmarked for some necessary home repairs.

This might be somewhat normal for this tax season, unfortunately. I've noticed that many returns filed in early February seem to be taking longer than usual to process. The IRS is possibly dealing with a backlog, which could explain why there hasn't been any movement yet. Have you checked if your return was actually accepted? Sometimes there's a difference between "transmitted" and "accepted" that might be worth confirming in your TurboTax account. It might also be worth checking if perhaps you claimed certain credits that typically delay processing, such as the Earned Income Credit or Child Tax Credit.

Thanks for this explanation! I was starting to think my return had fallen into a black hole or something. š Nice to know I'm not the only one dealing with this slowness. Gotta love tax season...

I experienced the same thing last year! How long do you think we should wait before actually contacting the IRS directly? I'm getting nervous because I'm planning to use my refund for a time-sensitive expense coming up in two weeks.

So you're saying if the return shows as accepted in TurboTax but WMR shows nothing, that's still normal?

I was in the exact same boat last year! Filed Feb 10th and nothing happened until late March. What finally helped me was using taxr.ai to analyze my transcript once it finally appeared. The site explained all those confusing codes and actually predicted my refund date within 2 days of when it actually hit my account. It was a lifesaver for my anxiety because I could actually understand what was happening instead of staring at mysterious numbers and codes. My situation sounds really similar to yours - I was also juggling kids and work while trying to figure out what was going on with my refund.

I checked my calendar and I've been waiting since February 9th - exactly 42 days now. Is this taxr.ai thing actually legitimate? I've been burned before by sites claiming to help with tax stuff.

Does taxr.ai cost anything to use? I've been looking at the IRS2Go app but it shows the same limited info as the website.

I'm curious about the transcript analysis capabilities. Does it actually decode the Transaction Codes (TC) and explain the Processing Cycle Date implications? That's where I always get confused.

Have you checked your tax transcript online? Sometimes WMR doesn't update but your transcript might show processing activity. Also, did you claim any credits like the Child Tax Credit or Earned Income Credit? Those can trigger additional verification processes. And one more question - did you receive any letters from the IRS requesting additional information? Sometimes they send those without updating the online status.

I'm feeling so relieved seeing all these responses! I thought I was the only one dealing with this waiting game. My emotions have been all over the place checking for updates every day.

Does anyone else feel like the IRS deliberately makes this process as opaque as possible? Why can't they just give us a realistic timeframe instead of making us guess what's happening?

Compared to most returns I've seen this season, 42 days without movement is definitely on the longer side but not unheard of. If you've tried the regular IRS number without success, you might want to try Claimyr. Unlike other returns where waiting makes sense, at the 6-week mark it's reasonable to speak with an actual agent. I've seen cases like yours where a simple verification was needed but the notice got lost in the mail. Claimyr helped several of my clients connect with an IRS agent within 15-20 minutes instead of the usual 2+ hour wait or constant busy signals.

I've tracked exactly 12 people in my extended family who've filed this season. 8 of them got their refunds within 21 days, but 4 are still waiting after 35+ days. I'm not convinced paying for a service to reach the IRS is necessary yet, though I appreciate the suggestion.

OMG this tax season is crazy! I'm seeing tons of Feb filers w/ no movement. The IRS is def overwhelmed rn. Here's what u should do: 1. Check ur transcript (not WMR) for codes 2. Make sure ur TT submission was actually ACCEPTED (not just sent) 3. If u claimed CTC or EITC, expect delays bc of PATH Act verification 4. Check if u had marketplace insurance - that can slow things down The avg processing time this yr is ~24 days but I'm seeing lots of ppl waiting 45+ days. Hang in there!

I'm concerned about your situation because at this point, you should have seen some movement. Here's what I would do: Step 1: Request your tax transcript online through the IRS website. If you can't access it online, request it by mail immediately. Step 2: Check if your return was actually accepted by TurboTax - look for an acceptance email from them. Step 3: Verify that your direct deposit information was entered correctly. Step 4: Call the IRS Tax Advocate Service if you're experiencing financial hardship due to the delay. Step 5: Check if you might be subject to additional identity verification, which can cause significant delays. This delay could potentially impact your tax planning for next year, so documenting everything is important.

Based on the Processing Week Calendar for the 2024 filing season, returns filed on February 9th should have been assigned to Processing Cycle 20240807. Your Account Transcript should display either a TC 150 (return filed) or potentially a TC 570 (processing hold) by now. If your transcript shows N/A for Tax Year 2023, this indicates your return is still in the pre-processing queue and hasn't been assigned to a processing team yet. This is unusual but not unprecedented for returns filed during that timeframe.

Check your bank account. Not just WMR. Sometimes refunds deposit without updates. Happened to me. Also verify your math. Simple errors cause delays. Did you move recently? Update your address? Check for IRS letters. They might need verification. Don't just wait anymore.

This is a really good point about checking your actual bank account. The IRS systems don't always update in real-time, and sometimes the money arrives before the status changes online. It might be worth calling your bank to see if there are any pending deposits as well.

I was in your exact situation last year! Filed Feb 11th and nothing happened until March 25th. Here's what worked for me: ā¢ Pulled my transcript online (showed processing codes that WMR didn't) ā¢ Called IRS early morning (7:01am exactly) when wait times are shortest ā¢ Verified my identity through ID.me again just to be sure ā¢ Checked my spam folder for IRS notices (found one!) ā¢ Set up direct deposit alerts with my bank Suddenly on March 25th, everything updated at once and I had my refund 2 days later. The IRS agent told me they had a verification hold but never sent me the letter about it. Hang in there!
