E-Filed on 1/29 - No Movement on WMR or Transcripts. Anyone Else?
I e-filed and received acceptance notification on 1/29/2024 but have observed zero progression on either the Where's My Refund tool or my account transcripts. The WMR still displays 'Return Received' status without advancing to 'Refund Approved' stage, and my 2023 transcript shows 'N/A' when I attempt to access it. Has anyone else experienced this extended processing time during the current filing season? This is my second tax filing since immigrating, and last year my refund was processed within 14 days, so I'm concerned about potential issues with my submission.

I filed on January 24th, the very first day, and didn't see any movement until February 18th. The IRS is severely backlogged this year compared to previous seasons. Their published 21-day timeline is more of a suggestion than a guarantee. On March 12th, I finally received my refund direct deposit, but my transcript didn't update until March 10th. The system is definitely moving slower than the IRS wants to admit.

Thank you for sharing your timeline. It's reassuring to hear someone else went through a similar delay. Last year, my transcript updated within 7 days of acceptance, so this year's lack of movement had me worried something was wrong with my filing.

Doesn't it seem like the IRS should be more transparent about these delays? Why tell people 21 days if it's actually taking 45+ days for many filers? I'm starting to wonder if there's something specific triggering these delays or if it's just random processing order?

Been there! Filed 1/31 and was stuck in limbo for 6 wks. No WMR updates, N/A transcripts, total info blackout. Finally got curious and tried https://taxr.ai to analyze my situation. It pulled my transcripts once they became available and explained exactly what was happening - turns out I was in manual review but nothing was wrong. The tool predicted my DDD accurately 10 days before WMR updated. Saved me tons of anxiety tbh.

I'm hesitant about using third-party services with my tax information. How does taxr.ai access your transcript data? Does it require your personal information or login credentials? I'm concerned about security protocols when dealing with sensitive tax documentation.

This sounds interesting! Did it give you specific information about why you were in manual review? And how accurate was the deposit date prediction? I'm getting desperate for any insights since the IRS phone line is basically impossible to get through.

Your situation is actually quite common this filing season. Compared to previous years, I'm seeing significantly more delays for early filers, especially those who filed between January 24th and February 10th. Many returns from this period seem to be subject to additional verification processes. Unlike 2023, when most early filers received quick processing, the 2024 processing pattern shows extended holds even for returns with no obvious issues. If you claimed refundable credits like EITC or CTC, this could further extend your timeline by 2-3 weeks.

I was in the exact same boat last year! Filed early February and nothing happened for almost 7 weeks. I eventually got so frustrated that I needed to talk to a real person at the IRS. After trying the regular number for days (and getting nowhere), I used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) and actually got through to an agent in about 15 minutes. They confirmed my return was just stuck in a processing queue and released it that same day. My transcript updated two days later and I had my refund by the end of that week. Sometimes you just need to talk to a human to get things moving!

According to the IRS operations dashboard (https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations), they're currently processing returns received in late January, but there's significant variation based on several factors. Here's what you should do: 1. Check your return for accuracy - verify all SSNs, income amounts, and that you've included all W-2s/1099s 2. Verify your e-file status at https://sa.www4.irs.gov/secureaccess - if it shows "accepted" you're in the system 3. Request your account transcript (not return transcript) as it updates first 4. If you reach 45 days with no updates, you can request a taxpayer advocate at 877-777-4778 Most importantly, don't panic - early filers are seeing 30-45 day processing times this year despite the IRS's 21-day guidance. Your return is likely just in the standard processing queue.

Be careful about assuming everything is fine. I had a similar situation last year and it turned out there was an identity verification hold that I was never notified about. After waiting 8 weeks, I finally called and discovered I needed to complete ID verification before my return would process. The IRS doesn't always send the verification letter promptly. Check for any notices in your online account and consider calling after 30 days of no movement.

This is an important point. Identity verification holds (IDV) are becoming increasingly common as the IRS enhances fraud prevention. These holds often show no indication on WMR or transcripts until resolved. You can proactively check if you have an IDV requirement by visiting the ID.me verification portal through your IRS online account. Taking this step could potentially save weeks of waiting.

I had this EXACT issue: • Filed Jan 15th last year • No updates for 9 weeks • Called multiple times - no help • Finally got a letter in APRIL saying I needed to verify identity • Completed verification same day • Got refund 10 days later SO FRUSTRATING that they hold your refund without telling you why! The system is broken when they can't even notify people promptly about verification needs.
