Filed 1/31 with No Movement - Transcripts Still Blank?
Has anyone else filed on January 31st and still has zero movement? I checked my transcripts again today and they're completely blank for 2023. No codes, no updates, nothing. I double-checked all my information before submitting and received confirmation that my return was accepted. It's been over 7 weeks now. I've checked WMR and it still shows only the first bar. Is this normal for this filing season? I need to know if I should take action or keep waiting.

You're not alone. Many early filers are stuck. IRS is backlogged. Processing times are longer this year. Keep checking transcripts weekly. Calling rarely helps at this stage. Path Act returns take longer. Did you claim EITC or CTC?

According to the IRS2Go app, processing can take up to 21 days for e-filed returns, but many are experiencing longer delays. Have you checked your account transcript instead of just the return transcript? Sometimes that updates first. The IRS website shows they're experiencing higher than normal volumes right now.

I've been through this exact situation before. Blank transcripts for weeks can be incredibly frustrating. When I finally couldn't take it anymore, I used Claimyr to get through to an IRS agent (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c). Got connected in about 15 minutes instead of spending hours on hold. The agent confirmed my return was in the system but just waiting in the processing queue. Nothing was wrong, just backlogged. Gave me peace of mind worth every penny.

It might be worth checking if perhaps you're affected by the PATH Act? Sometimes returns with certain credits are held until mid-February for additional verification, which could possibly explain the delay you're experiencing.

This is exactly what happened to me. Filed 1/29, transcripts blank until March 12. Here's what worked: 1) Check Account transcript, not Return transcript 2) Look for codes 150, 570, or 971 3) Check every Thursday night/Friday morning when transcripts update 4) Verify your return was actually accepted, not just submitted 5) Check for ID verification requirements via IRS letters. My refund appeared 9 days after transcript updated.

According to Internal Revenue Manual 21.4.1, returns claiming refundable credits under PATH Act cannot be issued before February 15th. Did you claim any refundable credits like EITC or ACTC on your return?

I'm in the exact same boat and frankly I'm tired of everyone saying it's normal. Filed 1/30, accepted same day, and NOTHING since then. No transcript updates, no WMR movement. Last year I filed in March and had my refund in 10 days. There's clearly something wrong with the system this year that they're not telling us about.

While I understand your frustration, the IRS processing queue operates on a multi-tiered verification system. Early-season returns often undergo additional scrutiny due to identity theft concerns. The Account Management System (AMS) can show N/A status while returns are in pre-processing verification queues. I experienced this exact scenario last year with a 1/29 filing date and didn't see transcript activity until March 18th.

I may have some insight that could help. My neighbor works for the IRS, and she mentioned they're dealing with a new processing system this year that's causing some early filers to get stuck in what they call a 'verification loop.' It doesn't mean anything's wrong with your return, but some returns filed in the last week of January got caught in this technical issue.

This tracks with what I'm seeing professionally. January 30-31 filers specifically are experiencing longer delays. The IRS implemented new fraud detection algorithms that flag returns with specific patterns for manual review. These aren't audits - just verification. In most cases, refunds are released without any contact needed from the taxpayer.

Wait, there's a specific issue with January 30-31 filers? I had no idea there could be date-specific processing problems! Is this something they announce publicly or is it just known within the industry?
