IRS Transcript Shows "No Tax Return Filed" Despite January 24th Acceptance Confirmation - 2023 Return Still Processing
Filed my 2023 return on January 24th and got acceptance right away but wmr still says processing. No bars, no tax topic, nothing. When I check my transcript online, I see: TRANSACTIONS CODE EXPLANATION OF TRANSACTION CYCLE DATE AMOUNT No tax return filed This Product Contains Sensitive Taxpayer Data How can it say "No tax return filed" when I already got an acceptance confirmation? I'm really confused because I received the acceptance notification immediately after filing on January 24th, but now the system is acting like it never received anything from me. It's been weeks with no movement - WMR still says "processing" with no bars, no tax topic code, absolutely nothing to indicate progress. Has anyone else had their transcript show "No tax return filed" even after getting an acceptance confirmation? I'm starting to worry that something went wrong with my submission despite the initial acceptance. Should I call the IRS or just keep waiting?

Tax expert here. This is actually pretty normal for this time of year. The IRS is still processing returns and acceptance just means they received it. They haven't started the actual review yet. Usually takes 21 days but can be longer if they need to verify information or if there are credits claimed.

Yes, any refundable credits like CTC or EITC can definitely add processing time. The IRS is extra careful with these.

Try checking your transcript if you can access it. Sometimes theres more info there than on wmr
