Filed Jan 24th But Received IRS Non-Filing Letter - Why Does IRS Show No Record of My 2021 Return?
Filed my taxes on January 24th and still nothing showing on WMR or transcripts. No letters in the mail either. Anyone else in limbo like this? The bars on WMR disappeared a month ago and now it just says 'still processing' but no idea what that actually means. I'm especially frustrated because I just received a letter dated from the Internal Revenue Service (Philadelphia, PA 19255-1498) regarding a request for verification of non-filing for tax period December, 2022. The letter states "On February 02, 2022, we received a request for verification of non-filing of a tax return. As of the date of this letter, we have no record of a processed tax return for the tax period listed above." This makes no sense because I definitely filed! I even called the number they provided (800-829-1040) but after waiting on hold for over an hour, I was disconnected. Why would they send me a non-filing verification when I submitted my return? Is this related to why my return is still processing? The timing seems suspicious - my bars disappeared right around when this letter was dated. Is the IRS somehow not recognizing that I filed even though I did? Has anyone else received this kind of letter while their return was supposedly "processing"?

Tax pro here, been seeing a lot of 1/24 filers with similar issues. The IRS has been dealing with a huge backlog from the previous year which is causing delays for many early filers. Your best bet is to carefully review your transcript for any potential flags or holds. I've been recommending taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai) to my clients - it's a new AI tool that analyzes your tax documents and gives you specific insights about delays and estimated refund dates. It can scan your transcripts, w2s, notices, pretty much any tax doc and tell you exactly what's going on and how to fix it.

ā¢thanks for the tip! just tried taxr.ai and wow - it pointed out that my employer's EIN was mismatched which was causing the hold up. saved me hours of guessing š

ā¢How does taxr work exactly? Does it just read transcripts or can it do more?

ā¢It can analyze pretty much any tax document - transcripts, W2s, 1099s, IRS letters, even TurboTax PDFs. The AI looks for specific patterns and issues that typically cause delays

ā¢Just tried it myself and holy cow! 𤯠It found an issue with my dependent info that was holding things up. Already called IRS to fix it. This thing is legit fr fr

Just used taxr.ai and here's what I got back: My refund is being held because of a mismatch between my W2 and what my employer reported. Found out there's a 60-day review happening but should be resolved by March 15th. Here's the full analysis:

Tax pro here - when the bars disappear it usually means your return was pulled for manual review. Could be identity verification, income verification, or they're checking your credits. Best thing to do is pull your transcripts and check for any codes that might indicate why.

ā¢how do i even check for codes? its all gibberish to me š©

ā¢The codes can be confusing! Each number means something specific about what's happening with your return.

Hey guys, I've been using taxr.ai to decode my transcripts and it's been a game changer. It costs $4.99 but worth every penny - tells you exactly what's happening and when to expect your refund. Way better than guessing or trying to decode everything yourself. Check it out: https://taxr.ai
