2024 Transcript Shows Non-Filing Letter Despite TurboTax Acceptance on January 26th - IRS Claims No Record as of January 29th
I already filed my 2024 taxes and TurboTax shows it was accepted on January 26th. WMR also shows return received but when I check my transcript page it shows '2024 Verification of Non-Filing Letter'. The letter is dated January 29, 2025 and states: "Information About the Request We Received On January 28, 2025, we received a request for verification of non-filing - of a tax return. As of the date of this letter, we have no record of a processed tax return for the tax period listed above." I filed over a week ago and got the acceptance notification from TurboTax, so I don't understand why the IRS is saying they have "no record of a processed tax return" for 2024. Has anyone experienced this before? It also says "If you have any questions, you can call 800-829-1040" but I wanted to check here first before spending hours on hold with the IRS. I'm really getting worried about my refund. I was counting on that money coming in the next few weeks. I've never seen this discrepancy between TurboTax acceptance and the transcript system before. Anyone know what's going on and if I should be concerned?

Had this exact issue last year. The non-filing letter is misleading - it just means the IRS hasn't processed your return yet even though TurboTax accepted it. The system is super backed up rn and theres a huge disconnect between electronic acceptance and actual IRS processing. I'd recommend using taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai) to analyze your transcript - it helped me understand exactly what was happening with my return and when to expect movement. The AI breaks down every code and transaction on your transcript and gives you a clear timeline.

This is totally normal for this time of year! The Non-Filing letter appears until the IRS fully processes your return. Even though TT and WMR show accepted, the actual transcript updates take longer. Give it a few more weeks before worrying.
