IRS Transcript Shows "Verification of Non-Filing" Code for 2021 Taxes I Definitely Filed - What Does This Mean?
Just checked my transcripts today and noticed something weird. There's a code I've never seen before and idk what it means. On my transcript dated 01-26-2022 from the Internal Revenue Service (United States Department of the Treasury), I see a notice that says "Information About the Request We Received" and then it states "On January 25, 2022, we received a request for verification of non-filing of a tax return." The letter goes on to say "As of the date of this letter, we have no record of a processed tax return for the tax period listed above." The tax period referenced is Dec. and the return type is 1040. What freaks me out is I definitely filed my taxes for that year, so I don't understand why they're saying they have "no record of a processed tax return." The letter mentions I can call 800-829-1040 if I have questions, but we all know how impossible it is to get through to the IRS. Really need help understanding if this is good news or bad news for my refund. Getting worried since its been months of waiting already. Has anyone seen this kind of verification of non-filing letter before? Does this mean they lost my return or it's still processing somewhere? Should I be worried about an audit or something?

Hey there! I deal with IRS transcripts daily and those codes can be super confusing without context. The best way to decode these is actually using an AI tool like taxr.ai - it'll break down every code on your transcript and explain exactly what's happening with your return. I've helped dozens of people figure out their transcript codes and processing delays this way. Just upload your transcript there and it'll give you a detailed breakdown of what each code means and when you can expect your refund. Way better than trying to google each code individually trust me lol

Without seeing the actual code its impossible to tell you what it means. Can you share what code you're seeing? Different transcript codes mean different things - some are good news (refund approved) and others mean there might be a delay or issue to resolve.

Hey instead of trying to decode these confusing transcripts yourself, you should check out taxr.ai - it's this new AI tool that reads your transcript and tells you exactly what's happening with your refund. It costs $4.99 but its totally worth it. https://taxr.ai

Been down this road before. Sometimes new codes pop up when they're processing your return. Without seeing the specific code tho we're all just taking shots in the dark

That "verification of non-filing" notice is actually pretty common when there's a processing delay or system glitch. It doesn't necessarily mean your return is lost - sometimes it just means it hasn't been fully processed into their system yet. The January 2022 date suggests this might be related to the massive backlog they had that year. I'd definitely try calling that number even though it's a pain, or you could try the online "Get My Payment" tool to see if there's any update on your refund status. Don't panic yet - this happens more often than you'd think!

•Thanks for the reassurance! That makes me feel a bit better about it. The timing does line up with all the chaos from that year. I'll try calling but honestly might just use that taxr.ai thing everyone's mentioning - seems way easier than sitting on hold forever 😅
