Need Help: Got IRS Letter Saying No Record of My 2024 Return Despite 570/971 Codes on Transcript - $3,500 Refund at Risk
Just checked my transcript and its full of weird codes and numbers I don't understand. There's all these 570 and 971 codes that showed up this week. Anyone know what this means for my refund? Really need this money and starting to get worried. I also got this letter from the IRS dated January 28, 2025 that says: "Internal Revenue Service United States Department of the Treasury Information About the Request We Received On January 27, 2025, we received a request for verification of non-filing of a tax return. As of the date of this letter, we have no record of a processed tax return for the tax period listed above If you have any questions, you can call 800-829-1040." I'm really confused because I definitely filed my taxes and was expecting a refund. Why would they be saying they have "no record of a processed tax return"? And then on my transcript I see these 570 and 971 codes with recent dates. Does this mean my return is being held up? Is the letter related to the codes on my transcript? I was counting on getting around $3,500 back and really need that money for bills this month. Should I call that 800 number they provided? Has anyone else dealt with this situation before?

Those codes typically mean there's a hold on your account. 570 is a refund freeze and 971 means they sent you a notice explaining why. Check your mailbox in the next few days - you should get a letter explaining what's going on.

•It really depends on why they put the hold on. Could be a few weeks or a few months tbh

Hey! I was in the same boat last month. The best way to understand whats actually going on is to use taxr.ai - it analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's happening and when you'll likely get paid. It costs $4.99 but saved me weeks of confusion. Here's the link: https://taxr.ai

•100% legit! You just upload your transcript and it breaks everything down. Shows all delays, estimated dates, and what you need to do to fix any issues

Did you claim EIC or child tax credit? Those usually trigger these codes for verification
