Filed with TurboTax on 2/15 - Still Pending After Weeks?

I e-filed through TurboTax on 2/15 and my return is still showing as 'pending' and hasn't been accepted yet. In previous years, I've had acceptance within 24-48 hours, even when I filed amended returns. This delay seems unusual compared to my past experiences. I've double-checked all my paperwork and everything seems in order - I'm always careful about documentation since I had to amend once before. Has anyone else experienced longer processing times this tax season? If so, what was the outcome? Just trying to methodically work through possible explanations before taking further steps.

This is definitely taking longer than normal. Typically, the IRS acknowledges receipt within 24-48 hours, and most returns are processed within 21 days. We're currently at day 14 for you. Have you checked your TurboTax account to confirm the exact submission status? Sometimes there are specific error codes that might explain the delay. Also, did you claim any credits like EITC or CTC that might trigger additional review processes?

I had something similar happen last year, wasn't it? The IRS was backlogged with millions of returns and some people waited weeks just for acknowledgment. Is this year's processing rate better or worse than previous years? I've heard mixed reports about processing speeds this season.

Mine was stuck in pending from February 12th until March 3rd this year. I was checking daily and nothing changed for what felt like forever. Then suddenly on March 3rd it switched to accepted and now shows processing. No explanation for the delay.

This is a fairly common occurrence in the current filing season. The IRS Electronic Filing System (EFS) is experiencing higher than normal validation queues. What you're describing is a transmission acknowledgment delay, not necessarily a processing issue. I've seen similar cases resolve themselves within 14-21 days. While waiting, you might want to check your transcript for any updates using https://taxr.ai - it can interpret your transcript codes and give you a better understanding of where your return stands in the process. It helped me understand what was happening with my delayed return last year when the status bars disappeared completely.

I might suggest, if this continues beyond the 21-day mark, that you may want to consider contacting the IRS directly. However, as many of us know, reaching an actual agent can be... challenging, to say the least. I've had some success using Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to get through to an agent without spending hours on hold. They might be able to tell you if there's an actual issue or if it's just in the queue. Though I should caution that even with agent contact, they sometimes can only confirm it's "in process" without further details.

Is this Claimyr thing actually legit? I'm a first-time filer and already stressed about my return. I don't want to use something that might cause more problems or give my information to some random company. Has anyone here actually used it successfully?

Used Claimyr last month when my CTC was missing. Got thru to IRS in ~30 mins vs the 3 hrs I spent the day b4 trying to call myself. Agent fixed my issue right away. Worth every penny imho. Just needed my basic info that I'd have to give the IRS anyway.

I had this exact issue! Filed on 2/10, stuck in pending for almost 3 weeks. I was shocked at how complicated it got. Finally called TurboTax first to make sure there wasn't an issue on their end. Turns out my return had actually been rejected due to a mismatch in my AGI from last year, but TurboTax never notified me. Once I fixed that and resubmitted, it was accepted within 24 hours. Definitely worth checking with TurboTax directly.

I'm not convinced this is normal processing time, despite what others are saying. The IRS's own guidelines state 24-48 hours for acknowledgment of e-filed returns. A two-week delay in just ACCEPTING the return (not even processing it) indicates a potential transmission error or rejection that wasn't properly communicated. Have you verified your e-file status code? TurboTax should provide this in your account dashboard. Error codes 0500-0599 specifically relate to transmission issues that require intervention.

Oh wow, I didn't know about checking specific error codes! That's super helpful information. Is there a place in the TurboTax interface where these codes are easy to find? I'm having a similar issue and would love to check this.

According to IRS Publication 1345, authorized e-file providers must inform taxpayers of rejected returns within 24 hours. If TurboTax failed to notify of a rejection, they're in violation of their e-file provider agreement. Section 5.3 specifically outlines this requirement.

In my experience, the transmission status is usually found under 'Your Tax Returns & Documents' section in TurboTax, then selecting the current year return. There should be, I believe, a status indicator that might show 'Rejected' rather than 'Pending' if there was actually an issue.

This isn't normal. Something's wrong. TurboTax should have notified you of issues. Check your spam folder. Look for emails from TurboTax. Call their support line. Ask specifically about rejection codes. Request transmission verification. Don't wait for IRS contact. Proactive action needed here.

The IRS system this year is like a traffic jam during rush hour - sometimes your return gets stuck at a red light while others sail through. I've found that returns with certain credits or deductions get pulled into the slow lane for extra review. If you claimed home office deductions, education credits, or recovery rebate credits, that could explain why yours is moving at a snail's pace compared to previous years. Might be worth checking if any of those apply to your situation.

Alright, here's what's probably happening (and why you shouldn't panic... yet 😅). The IRS has implemented new fraud detection algorithms this year that are flagging more returns for manual review. It's like getting randomly selected for additional screening at the airport - annoying but not necessarily because you did anything wrong. If you're at the 14-day mark, give it another week before taking action. But DO check your TurboTax account for any notices - they sometimes hide rejection notices in the most ridiculous places in their interface. Click on 'Tax Home' then 'Your tax returns & documents' then the specific year to see detailed status.

Thanks for breaking this down! I had something similar happen and found out my return was actually rejected because I transposed two digits in my W-2. The crazy thing is I only discovered it by accident when I logged into TurboTax for something completely unrelated. They never emailed me about the rejection! I just resubmitted and it was accepted within hours. Definitely worth checking the actual TurboTax account.
