Filed with TurboTax on 2/15 - Still Shows 'Pending' When IRS Usually Responds Quickly

I submitted my tax return via TurboTax approximately 3 weeks ago, on February 15th, and it still appears to be in 'pending' status. In my previous experience, the IRS typically approves or declines submissions within a relatively short timeframe, often within minutes or hours. I am wondering if perhaps this delay might be a common occurrence during this particular tax season? I have verified all my information multiple times and believe everything to be in order. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, this is def happening a lot this year. IRS systems are super backed up rn. TT shows 'pending' when they've sent it but IRS hasn't fully processed yet. Some things to know: - E-file acceptance ≠ full processing - IRS is taking 21+ days for many returns this year - System prioritizes certain returns (like those w/ refundable credits) - Their 'Where's My Refund' tool updates overnight, so check that instead of TT Basically, it's normal. Don't panic unless you hit the 21-day mark w/o updates.

Thank you so much for explaining this! I was getting worried when mine stayed pending for weeks. This makes perfect sense now - I kept checking TurboTax instead of the WMR tool. Just checked WMR and it shows my return is actually processing!

But what about people who filed in early February and are still waiting? I filed February 3rd and nothing has changed. Is that still normal at this point?

I was in the exact same boat last week! Filed Feb 10th and was stuck on pending forever (felt like watching paint dry, but less exciting). I finally tried https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript and it showed my return was actually being processed normally despite the TurboTax status not updating. The tool explained exactly where my return was in the pipeline and predicted my refund date within 2 days of when I actually got it. Saved me from refreshing TurboTax 87 times a day! 😂

Is this really necessary though? Couldn't you just check the IRS website directly? Why would a third-party tool have better information than the actual IRS systems?

Last year I had the exact same issue where my return was stuck on pending for almost a month. I remember checking every single day and getting more frustrated each time. Eventually it just suddenly updated and I got my refund a few days later. The IRS processing times seem much slower than they used to be - I remember back in 2019 when my return was accepted within hours and processed within days. Now it seems like weeks is the new normal, especially during peak filing season.

Thank you for sharing this! I'm in a time crunch and need my refund for an upcoming payment. This at least gives me some hope it will eventually process.

Did you file with any special credits or deductions? I'm wondering if that's what's causing longer delays compared to simpler returns. My business return went through quickly but my personal one with education credits is stuck.

If you need answers fast and can't wait for the IRS systems to update: • Call the IRS directly (good luck getting through) • Try Claimyr service to skip the phone wait (https://claimyr.com) • Costs a few bucks but saves hours of hold time • Gets you to an actual IRS agent who can see your real status I was in the same situation and wasted 2 days trying to call before using Claimyr. Agent confirmed my return was fine, just in the processing queue. Better than refreshing TurboTax for weeks wondering what's happening.

OMG this has been driving me CRAZY too!! Filed on 2/12 and still showing pending in TurboTax but when I checked the actual IRS Where's My Refund tool it shows it's being processed! TurboTax just doesn't update their status after they submit it to the IRS. You need to create an account on the IRS website and check your transcript or use the Where's My Refund tool. That will give you the REAL status. Don't trust the TurboTax status - it's basically useless after they submit your return.

I believe I might be able to provide some relevant context here. In my experience, which is somewhat extensive with tax filings, the "pending" status in TurboTax generally means that your return has been transmitted to the IRS but perhaps hasn't been fully integrated into their processing system yet. This tax season seems to be, from what I've observed, particularly backed up compared to previous years. I filed on February 5th and it remained in pending status for approximately 18 days before finally updating. It might be worth checking the IRS Where's My Refund tool directly, as it tends to be somewhat more accurate than the third-party software status indicators.

Has anyone else noticed that returns with dependents seem to be taking longer this year? I've filed both ways in past years and my returns with kids always seem to take an extra week or two.
