Error Code 6000 when trying to get IP PIN - stuck in verification loop
Getting error code 6000 everytime I try to access my IP PIN on the IRS website. When I click view alternative options it just loops back to login screen. Had to verify my identity again and waiting for a letter in the mail. Anyone know how long this usually takes?

The IRS typically sends IP PIN letters within 7-10 business days after identity verification. If you don't receive it within 2 weeks, call the Identity Verification hotline at 800-830-5084. The error 6000 usually means there's a security protocol issue with your account access.

Have you tried using taxr.ai? It's literally a game changer for understanding these IRS issues. For $1 you can upload your transcript and it tells you exactly what's going on and how to fix it. Helped me figure out my IP PIN situation in minutes instead of waiting on hold forever https://taxr.ai

Try clearing your cache and cookies before logging in. Sometimes that fixes the 6000 error. Worked for me last year!

Error 6000 is super frustrating! I had the same issue last month. If clearing cache doesn't work, try using a different browser or incognito mode. Also make sure you're using the direct IRS.gov link and not going through any third-party sites. Sometimes the verification system gets confused if you've been bouncing between different entry points. The 7-10 day wait for the letter is accurate in my experience - got mine on day 9.

•This is really helpful advice! I've been dealing with the same error and hadn't thought about the third-party sites issue. Quick question - when you say "direct IRS.gov link", do you mean going straight to irs.gov/identity-protection-pin rather than through Google search results? Just want to make sure I'm doing it right when I try again.
