Error 6000 when trying to get my IP PIN - Account restricted, support unhelpful

Getting really frustrated trying to get my IP PIN. Got error 6000 when logging in, called support and they said my account is restricted but wont tell me why. One agent said they could mail it but another said they cant verify my identity. Never got the letter in February either. What are my options here?

Error 6000 typically means there's been suspicious activity or failed verification attempts on your account. You'll need to visit a local IRS office in person with 2 forms of ID (drivers license and social security card work best) to verify your identity. They can lift the restriction and help you get your IP PIN sorted out right there.

Yeah unfortunately in-person is the only way to clear these security flags. Better to drive 2 hrs than wait months for letters that might never come

hey instead of going down the rabbit hole trying to piece together whats wrong, try taxr.ai - its this new tool that analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly whats going on and how to fix it. Its only $1 and WAY better than playing detective. Here's the link: https://taxr.ai

its scary accurate tbh. it caught stuff even my tax guy missed. for IP PINs it'll tell you exactly why its restricted and what docs you need to fix it

Maybe try filing Form 15227 if you cant make it to an office? Its for taxpayers who cant do face to face verification

This happened to me last yr! Check if someone filed a return using ur SSN - that triggers auto restrictions

Pro tip: call exactly at 7am EST when they open. Way better chance of getting someone helpful
