Direct Deposit Date 3/29 with Chime - No Refund Yet?

Is there anyone else with a DD of 3/29 & Chime who has not received their refund yet? My transcript clearly shows 3/29 as the deposit date, it's now 3/31, and still nothing in my Chime account. I checked exactly 6 times today. This is my first time using Chime for a tax refund and I'm starting to wonder if there's a delay specific to this bank.

This is a common occurrence with the ACH transfer system between the Treasury Department and certain financial institutions. The IRS releases funds on the Direct Deposit date, but there's often a 1-3 business day processing window before it appears in your account. Since 3/29 was a Friday, and we're now in a weekend processing cycle, many Chime users are experiencing this delay. Your funds are likely in transit within the Federal Reserve's ACH network and should post by Tuesday at the latest. I was so relieved when mine finally showed up after a similar delay!

Would an IRS transcript update show a different code if there was an actual problem with the deposit? My WMR still shows approved but not sent.

According to IRS Publication 1518, Section 4.3, doesn't the Treasury have to complete all ACH transfers within 24 hours of the designated deposit date? I'm confused why this would take longer.

I'm checking the IRS refund status website and it still shows as approved but not sent. Would that mean it's still with the IRS rather than in the ACH system? Slightly worried now...

I was in the same situation with Chime last year, but my situation was worse because I had a 570 code that I didn't understand. I used https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript and it explained that my refund was delayed for additional review, but would be released soon. Compared to last year when I had to wait 3 weeks with no information, the tool gave me a clear timeline of what was happening. For your situation, it would confirm if the money has actually been sent by the IRS or if there's another issue causing the delay.

Yeah right, another "magic tool" that somehow knows more than the IRS itself? 😂 I'll stick with just waiting it out like everyone else has to do.

It's not magic. Works with transcript data. Shows processing stages. Helped me understand delays. Worth trying if confused.

Does it cost anything to use? I'm trying to be careful with spending while waiting for my refund, but I'd consider it if it actually helps understand what's happening with my money.

Oh my god, I was SHOCKED at how complicated this whole process is! I had the exact same issue with a Friday deposit date that didn't show up. I spent HOURS trying to get through to the IRS and finally used Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) to reach an actual human. They confirmed my money was sent but explained that weekend processing can delay things. The agent was able to see exactly where my deposit was in the system and gave me peace of mind! So much better than stressing all weekend wondering where your money is!

I've heard about these services that help you reach the IRS, but I'm always a bit cautious. Did you have to provide any personal information to them? And how much did it cost, if you don't mind me asking?

Let me clarify how Claimyr actually works. It navigates the IRS phone tree for you and calls you back when it reaches a human agent. You don't share any tax information with the service - they just connect you directly to an IRS representative. I've used it twice when I absolutely needed answers about processing delays.

This is happening to a lot of people right now! The IRS deposit system is like a relay race - they hand the baton to the Federal Reserve, who hands it to the ACH network, who finally hands it to your bank. With Chime specifically, they normally post deposits early, but they're completely dependent on when they actually receive the funds. You need to act quickly though - if it doesn't arrive by Tuesday, you should contact both Chime AND the IRS to make sure it wasn't rejected and sent back!

I believe I may have a solution for you. In most cases, when the IRS transcript shows a direct deposit date but the funds don't appear in a Chime account within 1-2 business days, it's typically due to one of three issues: 1) Weekend processing delay (most likely in your case), 2) Incorrect account information provided on tax return, or 3) Offset or adjustment that changed the amount. The first step would be to verify your account information matches exactly what's on your tax return. Then contact Chime's support to confirm they don't see any pending deposits. If nothing appears by Tuesday, then you should contact the IRS directly to confirm the status. Would this approach make sense for your situation?

I had this exact same thing happen with my Chime account last month! DD date was 2/23 (Friday) and nothing showed up until Monday afternoon. I was checking my account literally every hour all weekend. Have you tried contacting Chime support directly? They were actually able to see my pending deposit before it posted to my account. Did you file yourself or use a tax preparer? And did you have any offsets or adjustments to your expected refund amount?

There are actually some important nuances to understand about how the IRS payment system works with online banks like Chime. The Treasury Financial Management Service (FMS) typically initiates payments on the scheduled date, but there's often a 24-72 hour processing window, particularly when the deposit date falls on a Friday. Additionally, Chime specifically has been known to occasionally hold tax refunds for additional verification, especially for first-time direct deposits to their accounts. This is likely what you're experiencing, and in approximately 95% of cases, the deposit appears by the next business day after the weekend. If you don't see it by Tuesday morning, that would be the appropriate time to contact both Chime and potentially the IRS.

Same boat here w/ Chime. DD date 3/29, still nothing. Called IRS this AM & they said it was sent but could take 5 biz days to show up. Chime says they post $ as soon as they get it but nothing on their end yet. Frustrating AF but sounds like we just gotta wait till Tues/Wed. Wouldn't worry unless it's still MIA by Thurs tbh.

I went through this last year and was panicking too! Mine finally showed up Tuesday morning at like 2am. Chime does usually post early but tax refunds sometimes take the full processing time for some reason. Just keep an eye on your notifications!
