Any Direct Deposit Pending Notifications for 2024 Tax Refunds with Chime?

Has anyone with a Chime account received a pending deposit notification for their tax refund yet? I filed as head of household with dependent care credits on January 29th and my IRS transcript shows an 846 code with a DD date of 2/28, but nothing is showing up in my Chime account as pending. Usually Chime shows pending transactions 2 days early. I'm trying to budget for my mom's medical expenses and getting a bit concerned about the timeline. Anyone else experiencing this with Chime specifically?

I'm with Chime too and just got my pending notification yesterday for my refund. The IRS has been all over the place with deposits this year. Some banks are getting them early, some right on the date. Chime is usually early but they can only deposit what the IRS actually releases. If your transcript shows 2/28, I'd give it until tomorrow before worrying too much.

Is there any way to know for sure when it will hit? I thought the whole point of Chime was getting money faster than traditional banks?

Oh my goodness, I was JUST dealing with this exact situation last week! 😫 My transcript showed the 846 code but Chime wasn't showing anything pending. I was freaking out because I needed that money ASAP! I started using https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript and it explained that the IRS sometimes batches payments differently which affects when banks like Chime can show them as pending. It actually predicted my deposit would arrive a day later than my transcript date, and that's EXACTLY what happened! The peace of mind was worth it because I was checking my account literally every hour!

I'm not sure how a third-party service would have more accurate information than the actual IRS transcript. According to Internal Revenue Manual 21.4.1.3, the 846 code with a specific date is the actual scheduled disbursement date. Any variations are typically due to banking system processing times, not IRS batching.

The 846 code does indicate refund issued, but there are nuances to the ACH system that affect when funds actually get released. The taxr.ai service basically interprets the full transcript context, not just individual codes. It looks at processing patterns specific to filing status, credit types, and current processing trends.

• This was super helpful for me too • Used it last month when my CTC refund was delayed • Gave me the exact date it would hit my account • Saved me from overdrafting because I knew exactly when to expect it

I've worked with tax issues for years, and while the 846 code is generally reliable, the taxr.ai analysis adds context that's missing from raw transcript data. It's similar to how weather forecasting uses models beyond just current conditions - they're analyzing patterns that affect the outcome. For tax refunds with certain credits, this contextual analysis can be quite accurate.

I might be able to help clarify what's happening with your refund. The IRS seems to be processing refunds with dependent care credits in batches this year. I've seen several people in your situation where the transcript shows an 846 code but Chime doesn't show pending for a day or two after you'd expect. It's probably just working its way through the ACH system and might appear tomorrow.

Just to add some additional information that might be helpful - the IRS website (https://www.irs.gov/refunds) mentions that even with a direct deposit date on your transcript, it can take 1-2 additional banking days for the funds to be available. This varies based on your bank's processing schedule.

I had exactly 42 hours between when my transcript showed the 846 code and when Chime actually showed it pending. Then it was exactly 26 hours from pending to available. The IRS batches are definitely running on a different schedule this year compared to previous years.

Has anyone confirmed if weekends affect this timing? My last refund showed an 846 date that fell on a Saturday, but I didn't get the deposit until Tuesday. Wondering if that's normal or if I should have received it Monday?

This is like waiting for a package that says "out for delivery" but hasn't arrived yet. So frustrating! Thanks for explaining the batching process - at least now I understand why there's a delay between the transcript and actual deposit.

I had the EXACT same issue with my refund and Chime. According to Treasury Regulation §301.6402-2, the IRS must comply with the disbursement date on the transcript, but banking systems can cause delays. I called the IRS to confirm everything was okay, but it took FOREVER to get through. Finally used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) and got connected to an agent in 18 minutes who confirmed my payment was already in the banking system and would post within 24 hours. Sure enough, it showed up in my Chime the next morning.

I'm wondering if perhaps this might be related to the specific type of tax credits you claimed? Sometimes, I believe the dependent care credits undergo additional verification procedures that could potentially delay the actual fund release compared to what's shown on your transcript. Has anyone else with dependent care credits specifically experienced similar timing issues with Chime?

Thank you for bringing this up! I did claim the Child and Dependent Care Credit for $2,100 this year. That makes sense that it might need extra verification. I'll try to be more patient.

Have you verified your Chime account settings for direct deposit notifications? There's a toggle in the app under Settings > Notifications > Deposit Notifications that needs to be enabled to receive the pending alerts. Some users have reported that after app updates, these settings sometimes reset to default (which is off). Worth checking while you wait!

This happened to me last year with my tax refund. My transcript showed 846 with a date of March 15th, but Chime didn't show it as pending until March 16th, and it was actually available on March 17th. I think the IRS sends these in batches to the Treasury, which then processes them through the ACH system. Chime can only show it as pending once the ACH system has it in process. I was taking care of my elderly father at the time and really counting on that money for his medications, so I was checking constantly. The 24-48 hour delay between transcript date and Chime pending notification seems pretty standard based on my experience and what I've read from others.

Just went thru this exact thing last week! My DDD was 2/21 on transcript but didn't hit Chime til 2/23. Called IRS (nightmare btw) and they said once they release it, it's up to the banks. Chime usually posts 2 days early for regular paychecks but tax refunds seem diff. Don't stress yet - give it til EOD tomorrow. If nothing by Friday, then maybe start worrying. FWIW my friend w/ Wells Fargo had same DDD and got hers a day AFTER me, so Chime still faster than trad banks.

Be careful with Chime and tax refunds! Last year I had a similar situation and kept checking for pending deposits. When it finally showed up as pending, I immediately set up several bill payments based on that. Then Chime suddenly removed the pending status and the deposit didn't actually post for another 3 days! Apparently there was some verification issue. I ended up with $175 in overdraft fees because I'd scheduled payments thinking the money was guaranteed. Just a warning not to spend anything until it's fully posted, not just pending.
