Credit Karma refund showing pending but no deposit - SBTPG has trace number
Filed through TurboTax early April and chose to have my refund deposited to my Credit Karma account. Got an estimated direct deposit date of May 24th according to the Where's My Refund tool. Received an advance earlier and now SBTPG shows there's a trace number for my refund. But still no deposit in my Credit Karma account as of today. Anyone else experiencing delays with Credit Karma deposits? Has anyone contacted SBTPG to find out what might be causing this? I'm geting anxious, could really use this refund right about now.

This happens ALL the time with third party processors like SBTPG. When you get your refund through a tax preparer that offers advances or takes their fees out of your refund, your money goes through SBTPG first. The trace number means they've processed it and sent it on to Credit Karma, but banking transfers aren't instant. It typically takes 1-3 business days after SBTPG shows the trace number for the money to hit your account. I'd wait until at least Monday before getting too concerned. If nothing by Tuesday, then call Credit Karma support to see if they can see a pending ACH transfer.

•Thank you for the info! I've been refreshing my account every hour all day lol. I'll try to be more patient.

•This is accurate. I had the same situation last year and it took exactly 2 business days after the trace number appeared before the $$ hit my account.

•Yep, SBTPG is sloooow. But they're reliable. I've never had them actually lose a payment.

Instead of stressing about this, I highly recommend using taxr.ai to understand exactly what's going on with your refund. I was in your exact position last month and spent days trying to figure out my transcript codes and what they meant. Taxr analyzed my transcript in seconds and explained everything - showed me precisely where my refund was in the process and when to expect it. It's insanely good! I use it every week to check for updates now instead of trying to decode those impossible transcript codes myself. https://taxr.ai

•Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

•It does wayyy more than just read the transcript. It analyzes all the codes, dates, and amounts and explains exactly what they mean in plain English. It also predicts next steps and tells you if there are any problems with your return. I was able to see that my refund was actually approved but just waiting on final processing. Saved me from calling the IRS for no reason!

•another app? 🙄 does it actually work or is it just guessing like all the others?

•I was skeptical too but this is completely different. I've tried like 5 different tax apps and none of them could actually explain what was happening with my refund. This one gives detailed explanations of every code on your transcript and shows exactly where things went wrong if there's a problem. It's the real deal - seriously changed the whole experience.

After waiting 2 weeks with a trace number but no money, I finally found a way to get someone on the phone who could help. Used this service called Claimyr.com that got me through to a live IRS agent in about 20 minutes. The agent confirmed my refund was sent to Credit Karma but there was an issue with the account number. Talking to an actual person got my refund released so fast - they fixed the problem while I was on the phone. Totally worth it to finally get my questions answered instead of waiting for weeks.

•How does that even work? I've been trying to call IRS for 3 days straight and can't get through.

•It basically navigates the phone tree for you and holds your place in line. Then when an agent is about to pick up, it calls your phone and connects you. Took about 20 mins instead of the hours I was spending trying to call myself. Best decision I made - the agent was able to release my refund on the spot.

•Sounds fishy tbh. You're telling me there's some magic way to skip the phone queue everyone else is stuck in? 🤔
0 coins
Brooklyn Foley
•It doesn't skip the queue - it just waits in it for you. The IRS phone system disconnects you if you try to wait too long, but this service can stay on hold indefinitely. Saved me literally days of redialing. I was desperate after seeing that trace number for weeks with no deposit, and talking to the agent solved it immediately.

•I can confirm this works - used it last month when my refund was stuck in processing for 3 months. Agent told me there was a simple identity verification issue they fixed in 5 minutes. Wish I'd known about it sooner!

I had the same issue but with Chime. SBTPG showed a trace number for like 4 days before the money hit my account. Some banks process ACH transfers faster than others. Credit Karma ain't the fastest from what I've seen on these threads.

check if your credit karma account has any restrictions. my roommate had this happen and it turned out his account got flagged for some reason and they were holding deposits. had to call and verify his identity.

•Oh that's a good point - I'll check if there's anything weird with my account. I haven't gotten any notifications about restrictions though.

•CK is notorious for random security flags. They once held my paycheck for 5 days with zero explanation. Definitely worth calling them directly.

This whole system is so broken. Why tf does our money have to go through SBTPG at all? It's OUR REFUND. The IRS should just deposit directly to our accounts without all these middlemen taking a cut and slowing everything down. 🤬

•If you don't get an advance or have fees taken out of your refund, it DOES go directly from IRS to your bank. It's only when you use those "extras" that SBTPG gets involved.

•but they dont make that clear when your filing! they make it seem like its the normal way to get your refund. should be illegal to mislead ppl like that

Im in exact situation but with Chime. SBTPG has had a trace # since Tuesday. Still nothing in my account. Called Chime they see nothing pending. Called SBTPG they claim they sent it. Literally no one can tell me where my money is right now and im about to lose my mind.

•That's what I'm afraid of - being stuck in limbo between SBTPG and Credit Karma with no one taking responsibility. Please update if you get yours!

•Update: it just hit my account about an hour ago! Took exactly 3 business days after the trace number appeared. Hang in there!

Pro tip from someone who's been thru this: screenshot everything. The trace number, dates, all of it. If there's an issue you'll need this proof when talking to either SBTPG or Credit Karma. Neither one wants to take responsibility when things go wrong.

Unpopular opinion: Credit Karma is trash for banking. I've had nothing but problems with them. Deposits always delayed, customer service is useless, and their app crashes constantly. I only use them for the credit monitoring now.

•This!!! After Intuit bought them the service went downhill FAST. I switched to SoFi and it's been night and day difference.

•Agree. CK was good when they first launched banking but now it's terrible. My tax refund last year was "lost" for 2 weeks between SBTPG and CK.

•Great... now I'm really worried. Might have to look into other options for next year.

Is this your first time getting a refund through Credit Karma? For me it always takes 2-3 days after SBTPG shows a trace. But I've heard some people get it same day. Probably depends on what time of day SBTPG processes it.

I was completely lost trying to figure out where my refund was stuck until I tried taxr.ai - showed me exactly what was happening with my return. The transcript had all these weird codes I didn't understand, but taxr explained everything in plain English. Found out there was actually a small math error the IRS corrected which was causing a slight delay. If you're stuck in limbo, it's worth checking out! https://taxr.ai

•I keep seeing people recommend this. What makes it better than just looking at Where's My Refund?
0 coins
Nina Fitzgerald
•Night and day difference! Where's My Refund just gives you basic status like "received" or "approved" but taxr looks at your actual transcript with all the detailed codes and tells you exactly what's happening behind the scenes. WMR was showing "still processing" for me for 6 weeks while taxr showed me they were actually reviewing a specific part of my return and even estimated when it would be completed.

Did you sign up for notifications from SBTPG? They're supposed to text/email when they send the money to your bank. I never got a notification even tho I signed up for alerts, but the money showed up 2 days later.

•I thought I did but maybe it didn't go through. I'll double check their site.

CALL CREDIT KARMA!! Don't just wait. My refund got stuck in a similar situation last year. Called CK and found out they were holding it for "security verification" but never bothered to notify me. One phone call fixed it and money was in my account same day.

Guys I finally gave up after a week of waiting with a trace number and called the IRS using Claimyr.com - took like 30 minutes total and the agent explained there was a name mismatch between my tax return and my bank account (I got married and changed my name). They fixed it right there on the phone and my refund was in my account the next morning. Best money I've ever spent to finally get answers instead of just waiting and hoping.

•this seems like a weird coincidence that two people in the same thread used the same service...is this an ad? 🤨

•Nah man, it's just what people use when they're desperate to get through to the IRS. I saw it recommended on another thread after spending 4 hours on hold myself. It's literally the only way I could talk to a live agent after trying for days.

•I used it too after my return was stuck for 3 months. Agent told me there was a form missing that nobody had bothered to tell me about. Fixed it over the phone and got my refund 2 weeks later.

Check the routing and account number on your tax return to make sure they match your Credit Karma account. I saw someone else post that they accidentally used their old bank info and that's why the deposit wasn't showing up.

Avery Saint
•Just checked and they definitely match. Good suggestion though!

Wait so you got an advance and now you're waiting on the rest of your refund? that's how it works with turbotax - they give u part upfront as an "advance" then u get the rest when irs actually processes ur return minus whatever fees they take out
0 coins
Avery Saint
•Yeah that's right. I got about $500 as an advance but my full refund is around $3200, so still waiting on the remaining amount.

if that trace number has been there for more than 5 business days, something is definitely wrong. Either SBTPG hasn't actually sent it yet (despite what they claim) or Credit Karma is holding it. Call both.

Had the EXACT same issue. Ended up having to go through my transcript to figure out what was happening since SBTPG and Credit Karma kept blaming each other. Found out using taxr.ai that there was actually a refund offset I didn't know about. It explained why the amount was different from what I expected. The IRS took part of my refund for an old student loan debt but no one bothered to tell me! Once I understood what happened, I stopped wasting time with SBTPG and Credit Karma. https://taxr.ai literally saved me days of stress and confusion.

•That's really helpful. I'm starting to wonder if there's something similar happening with mine. How does the taxr thing work? Do I need to download my transcript first?
0 coins
Sophie Duck
•Yeah you download your transcript from the IRS website first and then upload it to taxr. Takes like 2 minutes and it breaks down every code and what it means. Shows you exactly where any delays or issues are happening. Better than spending hours on hold with the IRS for sure.

For future reference - never EVER get your refund through the tax prep company. Always choose direct deposit straight from IRS to your bank. It's faster and you avoid all these SBTPG headaches. The only reason to go through SBTPG is if you're getting an advance or having fees taken out of your refund (which usually means you're paying extra fees).

•Definitely learning that lesson the hard way this year 😫

•100% this. I got my refund direct deposit in 8 days this year. Meanwhile my brother went through TurboTax/SBTPG and he's still waiting after 6 weeks.
