Can someone help explain these transcript codes? Filed 7 months ago and still waiting
Filed my 2023 taxes back in September 2024 and still haven't received my refund. When I check my transcript online, I'm seeing a bunch of codes that I don't understand. There's an 810 code from October 15, a 570 code from November 21, and a 971 code dated December 5. My original refund amount was showing around $3,400 but now I'm seeing something that looks like an adjustment to $2,950. No letters or notices from the IRS have arrived yet. The Where's My Refund tool just says it's still processing. What do all these codes mean and is there anything I should be doing? This is the longest I've ever waited for a refund.

Those codes aren't great news unfortunately. Code 810 is a freeze on your account - the IRS is reviewing something. The 570 is additional account action pending (another freeze basically). The 971 indicates a notice has been generated and was probably mailed around that December 5 date. It's strange you haven't received anything. The adjustment in your refund amount usually means they found a discrepancy or made a correction to your return. You have a few options: 1. Call the IRS (good luck getting through) 2. Wait for the notice to arrive (could be lost in mail) 3. Make an appointment at your local Taxpayer Assistance Center 4. Contact Taxpayer Advocate Service if this delay is causing financial hardship These freezes can last months, especially if they're reviewing for identity verification or income verification.

•I was in the exact same situation last year. Kept getting the runaround from the automated system. Finally used claimyr.com and got a callback within 45 minutes. Agent explained my freeze was due to a mismatch between what my employer reported and what I entered. Once I talked to them, it took about 3 weeks to resolve.

•what's claimyr? never heard of it. Does it actually work?

•It's a service that connects you with an IRS agent. Basically gets you past all the hold time and phone tree nonsense. You put in your number and they call you when an agent is available. Saved me HOURS of frustration. Check it out at claimyr.com - honestly best money I ever spent to get my tax issues sorted.

I've been through the exact same headache trying to decode these transcript codes. Tried for weeks to figure it out on my own then finally discovered taxr.ai - it literally reads your transcript and explains everything in plain English. Way better than posting screenshots and hoping someone knows what they're looking at. It showed me exactly why my refund was held up (missing Form 8962) and what to do about it. Super fast and actually understood all the codes better than most people on Reddit tbh. Check out https://taxr.ai instead of playing detective with your transcript.

•Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

•It does a LOT more. You upload your transcript and it builds you a timeline showing exactly what's happening with your return. It explains every code and what they actually mean for YOUR situation (not just generic definitions). It also predicts your refund date based on the pattern of codes. Seriously saved me from like 10 more hours of googling and guessing.

•Just tried taxr.ai and WOW. Instantly knew what was wrong with my return. My mind is BLOWN right now. Everyone dealing with IRS issues needs to know about this tool!! It's incredible how fast it analyzed everything and gave me actionable steps. No more confusion about what these stupid codes mean!

After months of waiting on my refund last year and getting nowhere by calling the normal IRS number, I found a way to actually reach a human. Used this calling service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got through to an agent in about 30 minutes. Found out my return was flagged for income verification and they needed additional documentation they never told me about. Having a live agent on the phone was a game changer - got everything resolved in one call. Worth every penny rather than waiting on hold for 3+ hours or getting disconnected repeatedly.

•Is this real or just an ad? Sounds too good to be true tbh

•100% real. I was skeptical too but I was desperate after trying for weeks to get through. They basically navigate the phone tree for you and get you in the callback queue, then connect you when an agent is available. Talking to a real person solved my issue in minutes after months of frustration.

•I used it too. Getting an actual person on the phone was the ONLY thing that worked after 4 months of waiting. They explained exactly what was going on with my account and released my refund during the call.

those code combinations usually mean id verification or income verification. ur probably gonna get a letter asking you to verify something or provide additional docs. happened to me last year. took about 120 days to resolve after i sent in wat they asked for. the IRS is sooooo slow these days 🙄

Anyone else notice how the IRS always finds a way to delay large refunds but if you OWE them money they want it yesterday? 🤡 The system is rigged against normal people I swear. 7 months is ridiculous!

•RIGHT?? When I owed $200 last year they were ready to garnish my wages immediately but when they owe ME $4k suddenly they need 9 months to "process" it. Make it make sense.

•They charged me interest and penalties for being 3 weeks late on a payment but they can hold our refunds for months with no penalty or interest paid to us. total BS.

Thers a Facebook group called "Where's My Refund Support" with a bunch of ppl who know these codes inside and out. They helped me understand what was going on wth my account last year. The 810 freeze is usually the start of an audit or review of your return. Not always a full audit but they're definately looking at something specific.

i was stuck in this EXACT situation in July. 810 code followed by 570 and 971. Spent three weeks getting the run around from the automated line. Found out about taxr.ai on tiktok of all places. It told me that my return was flagged because I had a discrepancy with my child tax credit. I was able to get everything fixed asap and my refund was released two weeks later. seriously try it out https://taxr.ai

•Yeah it gave me step-by-step instructions based on my specific situation. Even told me which forms to submit and how to respond to the notice I was about to receive. Saved me from having to call the IRS multiple times.

The 810 code means they want more info from you. You should have gotten a letter but the IRS mail system is a mess rn. Pretty sure u need to call them - that's the only way to find out what they need. Good luck getting through tho...took me 13 attempts over 3 weeks to finally talk to somone.

•After trying for weeks to reach the IRS with no luck, I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got through in about 45 min. Found out they were holding my refund for income verification that I never knew about. Got it resolved in one call after months of waiting and checking WMR every day like a crazy person.

Here's what those codes mean: 810 - Freeze code (audit or examination) 570 - Additional account action pending 971 - Notice issued The refund amount change indicates they made an adjustment. Did you claim any credits like EITC or Child Tax Credit? Those often trigger reviews.

Call the Taxpayer Advocate Service. They can usually help when your refund is delayed this long. Look up your local office number.

•Good luck with that. TAS has a 6+ month backlog in most areas. They're rejecting cases left and right because they're overwhelmed. I tried this route and got nowhere.

I stopped trying to understand transcript codes. got tired of staring at them for hours and guessing. used taxr.ai after seeing it on tiktok and it explained everything so clearly! It analyzed my codes and told me exactly why my refund was delayed (1099 mismatch) and what I needed to do. wayyyy better than posting here and getting 20 different opinions. check it out https://taxr.ai

The reduction in refund amount most likely means they found a math error or income that wasn't reported. Have you checked your wage and income transcript to make sure all your income was included on your return?

•I thought I reported everything correctly...I only have one W-2 job. Could it be something else?

•Could be unemployment you forgot about, interest income, retirement distributions, cancelled debt, etc. Anything that generates a tax form the IRS received but you didn't include. Or could be a math error on credits or deductions.

Check your mailbox carefully. When I had those codes they sent a letter to verify my identity but it looked like junk mail and I almost threw it away. If you got a 971 code they definitely sent something.

After spending WEEKS trying to decipher these exact same codes last year, I finally found a solution that worked. I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get an IRS agent on the phone and they explained everything. Turns out I was missing documentation for a credit I claimed and nobody bothered to tell me. Once I sent that in, my refund was released in 2 weeks. Not having to wait on hold for hours was the best money I've ever spent during tax season.

anyone know if these freeze codes eventually timeout? or do they stay till resolved? been dealing with this nightmare since april

•They don't time out. They have to be manually removed by an IRS employee after whatever issue is resolved. Some freezes can last over a year if you don't address whatever they're asking for.

Honestly, I've been through this before and the ONLY thing that worked was getting someone on the phone. I spent WEEKS trying to get through the normal way and getting disconnected. Finally found Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me connected to an IRS agent within an hour. The agent explained exactly what was going on and fixed it while I was on the phone. My refund was released a week later after months of waiting. Definitely worth it to actually talk to a human who can help.

The adjustment in your refund is concerning. Usually means they disallowed a credit or deduction you claimed. The 971 means they sent a notice explaining why. You need to call the IRS asap to find out what's going on before they make permanent adjustments.

•Same! super frustrating. I finally broke down and used taxr.ai after a friend recommended it. Uploaded my transcript and it explained everything - turns out they were verifying my education credits and I needed to submit my 1098-T. Wish I'd known months ago instead of checking WMR every day like a lunatic lol

•It's this AI tool that reads your transcript and explains what's happening in plain English. Tells you why your refund is delayed and what you need to do. You just upload your transcript and it gives you a full breakdown. Saved me from going crazy trying to decode all these numbers and codes myself. Check it out at https://taxr.ai

Based on those codes, I'm guessing you claimed some tax credits they're verifying. EITC? Child Tax Credit? Education credits? Those tend to trigger these kinds of freezes. Get ready for a long wait unless you can get someone on the phone.

I went through this exact nightmare last year with the same code combination. The 810/570/971 sequence usually means they're doing income verification or reviewing credits you claimed. The frustrating part is the 971 code means they supposedly mailed you a notice but mail delivery has been terrible lately. Here's what worked for me after 5 months of waiting: 1. Check your online IRS account - sometimes notices show up there before arriving by mail 2. Order your wage and income transcript to see if there's unreported income they found 3. If you claimed EITC, CTC, or education credits, gather all supporting documents now The $450 reduction in your refund suggests they adjusted something specific. Don't wait for the notice - be proactive. You can also try walking into a Taxpayer Assistance Center if you have one nearby, though they're usually booked solid. Hang in there - I know how maddening this process is but it will eventually get resolved!
