2022 Tax Transcript Shows $1,761.96 Balance Due with Code 971 - Haven't Received Notice Yet
I filed my 2021 taxes back in March 2023. My transcript shows code 971 and 570 but idk what that means. I just checked my transcript today (06-17-2023) and I'm really confused and worried because it's been so long. Here's what my transcript shows: Internal Revenue Service United States Department of the Treasury This Product Contains Sensitive Taxpayer Data Request Date: 06-17-2023 Response Date: 06-17-2023 Record of Account FORM NUMBER: 1040 TAX PERIOD: Dec. 31 2022 ACCOUNT BALANCE: $2,761.96 ACCRUED INTEREST: $111.87 AS OF: Jul. 04, 2023 ACCRUED PENALTY: $108.65 AS OF: Jul. 04, 2023 ACCOUNT BALANCE PLUS ACCRUALS (this is not a payoff amount): $2,782.48 INFORMATION FROM THE RETURN OR AS ADJUSTED EXEMPTIONS: 01 FILING STATUS: Single ADJUSTED GROSS INCOME: $31,945.00 TAXABLE INCOME: $18,995.00 TAX PER RETURN: $2,940.00 SE TAXABLE INCOME TAXPAYER: $0.00 SE TAXABLE INCOME SPOUSE: $0.00 TOTAL SELF EMPLOYMENT TAX: $0.00 RETURN DUE DATE OR RETURN RECEIVED DATE (WHICHEVER IS LATER) Apr. 15, 2023 PROCESSING DATE May 29, 2023 TRANSACTIONS CODE EXPLANATION OF TRANSACTION | CYCLE | DATE | AMOUNT 150 Tax return filed | 20231905 | 05-30-2023 | $2,940.00 30211-456-78302-3 806 W-2 or 1099 withholding | | 04-16-2023 | -$310.00 276 Penalty for late payment of tax | 20231905 | 05-29-2023 | $117.30 196 Interest charged for late payment | 20231905 | 05-29-2023 | $114.66 971 Notice issued | | 05-29-2023 | $0.00 I see the 971 code which says "Notice issued" but I haven't received anything in the mail. The WMR tool just shows it's processing. I'm really confused about what's happening and why my return is taking so long to process. I thought I'd be getting a refund but now it looks like I owe money? Anyone else experienced this? Getting worried since it's been months now.

Hey there! IRS transcript expert here. Those codes 971 and 570 usually show up together - 570 means they've frozen your refund temporarily and 971 means they're sending you a notice to explain why. Most common reasons are identity verification needed, income verification, or they're adjusting your refund amount. Don't panic tho! If you want a quick analysis of exactly what's happening and when you might get your refund, check out taxr.ai - it's seriously a game changer for understanding these transcript codes and getting timeline predictions. I've been recommending it to everyone stuck in refund limbo lately.

Tax pro here. Those codes typically indicate that there's a hold on your account. 570 means additional account action pending, and 971 means a notice has been issued. Check your mail carefully - the IRS probably sent you something explaining why there's a delay.

•Thanks! I haven't gotten any notices tho. Should I be worried?

•If it's been more than 2 weeks since the 971 date on your transcript, call the IRS to request a copy of the notice.

Hey there! I was in the same boat and found this tool called taxr.ai that literally saved me hours of research. It costs $4.99 but it analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's going on and what to do next. Way better than playing detective with these codes lol. Here's the link: https://taxr.ai

•That sounds interesting actually. How accurate is it? Does it just read the codes or what?

I had these codes back in October. Turned out they needed to verify my identity. Check if you can do ID verify online.
