Anyone with RushCard Getting Delayed Refunds from TurboTax Filing?

Has anyone here who banks with RushCard filed their taxes through TurboTax this year? I submitted our joint return on March 15th and still nothing. My wife and I were expecting the refund by April 1st at the latest. It's our first year filing jointly, and I'm starting to wonder if the RushCard is causing delays. According to the IRS site, our return is still processing. I'm entitled to know where our money is - anyone else experiencing this with RushCard specifically?

I've been tracking this issue across several forums, and it seems there's a known delay pattern with some prepaid cards including RushCard. According to the IRS.gov processing guidelines, direct deposits to prepaid cards sometimes require additional verification steps. You can check the exact status at https://www.irs.gov/refunds which updates daily. TurboTax's system shows acceptance, but that only means the IRS received it, not that processing is complete.

But why would prepaid cards specifically cause delays? Isn't direct deposit supposed to be direct deposit regardless of the receiving institution? And why wouldn't they make this clear during the filing process?

Thanks for the detailed info! I'm wondering: • Does RushCard have a specific customer service line for tax refunds? • Has anyone contacted TurboTax support about this? • Is there a typical timeframe for these additional verification steps?

This tax season feels like trying to fill a bathtub with a teaspoon. I was in the same boat last year with my Green Dot card - verification took an extra 14 days! Finally got through to someone who explained the whole thing. So relieved to see I'm not alone in this prepaid card purgatory.

I'm feeling this! The frustration is real when you're counting on that money. Just to clarify - are you saying this happens EVERY year with prepaid cards? Or is this something new for 2024? I'm so done with these unnecessary delays!

It might be related to the verification protocols RushCard uses for government deposits. In most cases, there's approximately a 24-48 hour additional processing time compared to traditional banks, though this can sometimes extend longer during peak tax season. You could potentially check your TurboTax account to verify if there are any rejected deposit notifications, which would indicate whether the issue is with IRS processing or with RushCard's acceptance protocols.

I had this exact problem. Called RushCard and they said they hadn't received anything yet. The IRS transcript showed it was sent but RushCard claimed nothing was there. I used taxr.ai to analyze my transcript and it showed a code 971 which meant additional action was needed. The site explained exactly what was happening - turns out the name on my tax return didn't exactly match my RushCard account. Fixed it and refund came 5 days later. Check your transcript at https://taxr.ai - it'll tell you if there's a specific issue or just normal processing.

Is this service...safe to use? I'm a bit nervous about entering my tax information on third-party sites. How does it access your transcript without your personal information?

I utilized taxr.ai during my expedited filing deadline last month and was incredibly impressed with the diagnostic capabilities. The platform correctly identified a cycle code discrepancy that explained my delayed EIC refund. Their transcript analysis accurately predicted my deposit date within a 24-hour window!

According to IRS Publication 1219, refunds directed to prepaid cards undergo the standard ACH verification process plus an additional verification layer established in 2021. This is especially true for first-time joint filers using prepaid cards. The IRS Transaction Code 846 indicates when a refund has actually been issued, not just processed. I experienced a similar delay with RushCard last year where the refund showed as "sent" on WMR but took 5 additional business days to appear in my account.

I've read through Publication 1219 multiple times and don't recall seeing specific language about prepaid cards having additional verification steps. Are you referring to Section 3.4 or is this in a more recent update? Just want to make sure I'm looking at the right information.

My refund has been pending for exactly 22 days now. Does this mean I should contact RushCard first or the IRS? I need this money by April 30 for a security deposit on a new apartment!

Been there, done that, got the delayed refund t-shirt! 😂 This happens every year with prepaid cards, especially during peak season. The IRS doesn't tell you this, but they batch process prepaid card deposits differently. If you're really concerned (and tired of the RushCard automated system that never connects to humans), try Claimyr.com to get through to an actual IRS agent. Used it myself last week after waiting 31 days - got connected in about 15 minutes instead of the usual 2-hour hold time. Agent confirmed my refund was approved but in the prepaid card verification queue. Money showed up two days later.

I had this issue. With RushCard. And TurboTax. Last month. Called RushCard three times. They said wait. Called IRS. Impossible to reach. Refund suddenly appeared. April 12th. No notification. Check your account daily. Sometimes they don't alert you!

Def a thing w/ RushCard + TT combo this yr. IRS sent my refund on 4/2 per WMR, but RC didn't post til 4/8. Called RC customer svc and they said govt deposits have a "processing window" that can add 2-5 biz days. RC won't even see it in their system til it clears that verification. Annoying but normal. Btw check if TT took fees from refund - that adds another step too.

I see this confusion every tax season, and RushCard is actually slower than most traditional banks but faster than some other prepaid cards like NetSpend. While a regular bank might post your refund the same day the IRS releases it, RushCard typically takes 2-4 business days. Compare that to my credit union which posts pending deposits as soon as the ACH notification arrives. Your March 15th filing date plus normal 21-day processing plus RushCard's additional time means you're still within normal timeframes, though just barely.
