Has anyone received their 2024 tax return yet? Mine's still processing
I filed my taxes with TurboTax back on February 1st (the earliest day possible) and I'm still waiting for my refund to hit my account. The IRS "Where's My Refund" tool just says it's still being processed. I'm starting to get worried because last year I got my refund within 10 days of filing. Anyone else experiencing delays this year? I'm counting on this money to pay off some credit card debt from Christmas. My return was pretty straightforward - just W-2 income and the standard deduction. No complicated stuff. Has the IRS been slower than normal this filing season or should I be concerned something's wrong with my return?

The IRS is definitely experiencing some delays this year with refund processing. There's been a large backlog from previous years they're still working through, plus they implemented some new fraud prevention measures that are slowing things down. For a straightforward return like yours with just W-2 income and standard deduction, I'd expect processing within 21 days, but it's not uncommon to wait longer this year. As long as the "Where's My Refund" tool shows it's being processed and doesn't indicate any issues, you're probably fine. Make sure you're checking your bank account regularly too - sometimes the refund will show up before the IRS tool updates. Also verify that your banking information was entered correctly when you filed.

•Do you know if filing a paper return vs electronic makes a big difference in processing time? I mailed mine in about 3 weeks ago and haven't heard anything.

•Paper returns take significantly longer than electronic returns - the IRS is currently estimating 6-8 weeks minimum for paper returns, but it could be much longer. Paper returns require manual processing, which creates a bottleneck in their system. If you filed electronically with direct deposit set up, that's always the fastest method. Paper returns with paper checks requested can take months to process during busy periods. If you need your refund quickly in the future, I'd strongly recommend e-filing.

I was in the same situation last year waiting forever for my refund. What really helped me was using https://taxr.ai to check if there were any issues with my return. It analyzes your tax documents and identifies potential problems that might be causing delays. This year I used it before submitting and my refund came in just 8 days! It found a discrepancy between what my employer reported and what I entered for federal withholding that would have definitely triggered a manual review. Worth checking out if you're still waiting!

•How exactly does the website work? Do I need to upload all my tax documents or just enter the info manually? I'm always careful about where I share my tax info.

•Sounds suspicious tbh... how can a website know what's happening with IRS processing? The IRS doesn't share that kind of info with third parties.

•You upload your tax forms like W-2s and 1099s and it uses AI to analyze them for errors and cross-references the information with IRS requirements. It's completely secure and doesn't store your documents after analysis. It specifically looks for inconsistencies that would trigger IRS verification delays. The service doesn't claim to know what's happening inside the IRS - it identifies potential issues in your tax documents that commonly cause processing delays. It's similar to how tax software checks for errors, but more focused on finding the specific issues that typically lead to manual reviews.

Alright, I have to admit I was wrong about taxr.ai! After expressing skepticism here, I decided to try it anyway since my refund has been "processing" for over a month. The tool immediately found that my employer had a typo in my SSN on one of my W-2s (last digit was wrong). This 100% explained why my return was stuck! I called my employer, got a corrected W-2, and filed an amended return. Now my status has changed to "approved" and I should have my money next week. Definitely saved me from months of waiting and wondering what was wrong.

If you're worried about your refund, you should try Claimyr (https://claimyr.com). I spent WEEKS trying to get through to an actual human at the IRS with no luck. Their automated system was useless for my situation. Claimyr got me connected to an IRS agent in about 20 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. The IRS agent told me my return had been flagged for manual review because my estimated tax payments didn't match their records. We sorted it out right there on the phone. Check out how it works here: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c - saved me so much frustration!

•How does this actually work? Does it just dial for you constantly or something? I've been on hold with the IRS for literally hours and then got disconnected.

•Yeah right, as if anyone can get through to the IRS these days. Their hold times are legendary. I'll believe it when I see it...sounds like a waste of time.

•It uses a system that navigates the IRS phone tree automatically and waits on hold for you. When an actual agent picks up, you get a call connecting you directly to them. No more waiting on hold for hours or getting disconnected. They have connections to multiple IRS departments too, not just the general line. I was specifically trying to reach someone about my refund status, and they got me to the right department. The whole process was way easier than I expected - you just tell them which department you need and they handle the rest.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but Claimyr actually worked. After posting my skeptical comment, I figured I had nothing to lose since I'd been waiting over 2 months for my refund with zero updates. I used the service and got connected to an IRS agent in about 25 minutes (I timed it). The agent looked up my return and found it was sitting in the "verification" queue because I had claimed the Earned Income Credit. She manually reviewed it while I was on the phone and approved it! My status updated to "approved" the next day, and the refund hit my account 3 days later. If you're stuck in limbo with the IRS, this is definitely worth trying.

Just wanted to share that I filed on February 12th and got my refund yesterday (direct deposit). So it took exactly 19 days for me. My return was pretty simple though - just one W-2, standard deduction, and child tax credit for my son. I used FreeTaxUSA and it was accepted within an hour of filing. Maybe check if you claimed any credits that might trigger additional review? The Earned Income Credit and Child Tax Credit often get extra scrutiny.

•What tax software do you recommend? I used TurboTax for years but the fees keep increasing. Thinking of switching next year.

•I highly recommend FreeTaxUSA. I switched from TurboTax three years ago and haven't looked back. Federal filing is free, and state returns are only about $15. The interface isn't quite as polished as TurboTax, but it gets the job done perfectly well. I've also heard good things about Tax Slayer and H&R Block's online options. If your adjusted gross income is under $73,000, you can also use the IRS Free File program to access free versions of commercial tax software. Definitely shop around before next tax season!

Has anyone had issues with state tax refunds too? My federal came in 2 weeks ago but NY state is still "processing" after 6 weeks. Starting to get annoyed.

•Same here with California! Federal took 16 days, but state has been "processing" for over a month now. Called their helpline and they just said to keep waiting.

I'm dealing with the same frustrating situation! Filed electronically on February 5th and I'm still stuck at "being processed" with no updates. Like you, mine is a straightforward return - just W-2 income, standard deduction, no complications. From what I've been reading, the IRS is definitely running behind this year. They're still catching up from pandemic backlogs and have implemented stricter fraud prevention measures that are slowing everything down. The 21-day processing timeframe they advertise seems to be more like 4-6 weeks for many people this year. I'd suggest calling the IRS taxpayer assistance line if you hit the 6-week mark, but be prepared for long hold times. You can also check if your bank information was entered correctly when you filed - sometimes that causes delays too. Hang in there, it sounds like you're not alone in this wait!

•Thanks for sharing your experience! It's actually reassuring to know I'm not the only one dealing with this. I filed around the same time as you (February 1st) and it's been over 6 weeks now with no movement on the "Where's My Refund" tool. I've been hesitant to call the IRS because I've heard the hold times are brutal, but maybe it's time to bite the bullet and try. Did you double-check your banking info after filing? I'm wondering if I should verify that everything was entered correctly, though I'm pretty sure it was since I used the same account as last year. The fraud prevention measures make sense but it's frustrating when you have a simple return that should be straightforward to process. Hopefully we both see some movement soon!

I'm in exactly the same boat! Filed on February 3rd with TurboTax and still showing "being processed" with no end in sight. It's so frustrating because like you, I have a super simple return - just my W-2 from my job and standard deduction, nothing fancy. I called the IRS last week after waiting over a month and the agent told me they're experiencing "unprecedented delays" this year due to new security measures and staffing issues. She said as long as the tool doesn't show any errors or requests for additional information, to just keep waiting. Not very reassuring when you're counting on that money! The worst part is not knowing if there's actually a problem or if it's just taking forever. Last year I got my refund in 12 days, so this is definitely unusual. I've been checking my bank account obsessively hoping it just shows up without the tool updating first. Here's hoping we both see some movement soon - this waiting game is driving me crazy!

•I'm so glad I found this thread - it's been driving me nuts thinking something was wrong with my return! I filed on February 7th and I'm still stuck at "being processed" too. Mine is also super straightforward - just W-2 income and standard deduction. It's actually kind of comforting to know that others with simple returns are experiencing the same delays. I was starting to worry that maybe my employer messed up my W-2 or something. The "unprecedented delays" explanation makes sense given everything that's happened with the IRS over the past few years. I guess we just have to be patient, but it's so hard when you're depending on that refund money! Thanks for sharing your experience - at least now I know I'm not alone in this waiting game.

I'm experiencing the exact same issue! Filed on January 28th with H&R Block and my return has been stuck on "being processed" for almost 7 weeks now. Like many others here, mine is a simple return - just W-2 income, standard deduction, and claiming my dependent. What's really frustrating is that I filed even earlier than some of you who got your refunds already. I've been checking the "Where's My Refund" tool daily and it never changes. I even went back and double-checked all my information against my W-2 and everything matches perfectly. I called the IRS two weeks ago and after waiting on hold for 3 hours, they basically told me the same thing - just keep waiting due to processing delays. The agent couldn't give me any specific timeframe or tell me if there was actually an issue with my return. At this point I'm just hoping it shows up before I have to file next year's taxes! It's definitely making me consider using a different preparation method next year since this level of uncertainty is really stressful when you're budgeting around that refund money.

•I'm in the same boat as everyone here! Filed on February 12th and still waiting after 5+ weeks. What's really bothering me is the complete lack of transparency from the IRS - they just keep saying "processing delays" without giving any real timeline or explanation of what's actually happening with our returns. I've been reading that some people are having success calling the Taxpayer Advocate Service if you've been waiting more than the normal processing time. They're supposed to help when the regular IRS channels aren't working. Might be worth trying if you've already waited 7 weeks - that's definitely beyond their normal timeframe. It's crazy that filing early actually seems to be working against us this year. Makes me wonder if I should just file closer to the deadline next year to avoid this limbo period!

I'm dealing with the exact same frustrating situation! Filed my return on February 14th using TaxAct and it's been stuck on "being processed" for over a month now. My return is super basic too - just my W-2 from work, standard deduction, and I claimed the Child Tax Credit for my daughter. What's really getting to me is the complete lack of communication from the IRS. The "Where's My Refund" tool hasn't updated once since I filed, and there's no way to get any real information about what's actually happening. I've tried calling but gave up after being on hold for over 2 hours twice. Reading through all these comments is honestly both reassuring and concerning - reassuring that I'm clearly not alone in this, but concerning that so many people with straightforward returns are experiencing these major delays. It really seems like the IRS processing system is just overwhelmed this year. I'm really hoping things start moving soon because like many of you, I was counting on this refund to help with some bills. The uncertainty is the worst part - not knowing if there's actually a problem or if it's just taking forever to process. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences, it helps to know we're all in this together!

•I'm in the exact same situation! Filed on February 9th with FreeTaxUSA and still stuck at "being processed" after 6+ weeks. It's so frustrating because mine is also super straightforward - just W-2 income, standard deduction, and the Child Tax Credit. What really bothers me is how the "Where's My Refund" tool gives you absolutely no useful information. It just says the same generic "being processed" message with no timeline or indication of what's actually happening. At least with package tracking you get some sense of progress! I finally bit the bullet and called the IRS yesterday after reading some of these comments. Waited on hold for almost 3 hours but actually got through to someone. The agent told me my return is in their "error resolution" department even though there's no actual error - apparently the Child Tax Credit is triggering extra manual reviews this year due to fraud prevention measures. She couldn't give me a specific timeline but said it could be another 2-4 weeks. It's ridiculous that claiming a legitimate credit that I've claimed for years is causing this much delay. Thanks for sharing your experience - it definitely helps to know we're not alone in this mess!

I tried calling the IRS last week but gave up after being on hold for over 2 hours. •I'm right there with you! Filed on February 8th and also still stuck at "being processed" - it's been almost 7 weeks now. Like you, I have a super simple return with just W-2 income and standard deduction, so there's really no reason it should be taking this long. The waiting is honestly the worst part because you have no idea if something is actually wrong or if it's just stuck in their backlog somewhere. I've been tempted to call but reading about those 2-3 hour hold times makes me hesitate. It's crazy that so many of us early filers are dealing with this - you'd think filing early would be rewarded, not punished! At least we know from all these comments that it's definitely a widespread issue and not something specific to our individual returns. Hoping we all see some movement soon because this uncertainty is really stressful when you're budgeting around that refund money!

I'm in the exact same boat as everyone here! Filed on February 4th using Credit Karma Tax (now Cash App Taxes) and I'm still showing "being processed" after 6+ weeks. My return is super simple too - just my W-2, standard deduction, and no credits or complicated stuff. Reading through all these comments has been both comforting and concerning. Comforting because it's clear this is a widespread issue affecting tons of people with straightforward returns, but concerning because it seems like the IRS processing system is just completely overwhelmed this year. I've been checking the "Where's My Refund" tool every day and it's the same generic message with no useful information. The lack of transparency is really frustrating - they could at least give us some kind of realistic timeline instead of just saying "processing delays."
