Filed via TurboTax Jan 26 - No IRS Acceptance Yet (EIC & CTC)

I filed through TurboTax on January 26th and I'm a bit concerned that my return still hasn't been accepted by the IRS. I paid all the filing fees upfront and included everything correctly (I think). We have children so I claimed both Earned Income Credit and Child Tax Credit. I've been checking Where's My Refund regularly, but it keeps saying it "doesn't match our records." I'm starting to worry that maybe I missed something important? Has anyone else experienced this? My spouse and I were hoping to have this refund by now for some home repairs we've been planning...

I've seen this happen a lot this tax season. Here's what you should try: 1. First, double-check the exact information you're entering into Where's My Refund - it needs to match EXACTLY what's on your return (filing status, refund amount to the penny, SSN). 2. If you e-filed through TurboTax, log into your account and verify your return was actually transmitted. Sometimes there's a glitch where you think it's sent but it's sitting in limbo. 3. Check your email for any communications from TurboTax about rejected returns - sometimes they notify you but it goes to spam. 4. Be aware that returns with EIC and CTC are subject to the PATH Act, which means the IRS can't issue your refund before mid-February... but we're well past that now, so something else might be going on.

OMG I'm going through the EXACT same thing right now! Filed Jan 29th with TurboTax, claimed EIC for my kids, and WMR still doesn't recognize my information! I've been checking literally every morning at 6am before work. I NEED this money for car repairs and my landlord is not being understanding about the late rent. 😭 This is so stressful!

Last year I had a similar issue where WMR wouldn't recognize my information for almost 4 weeks. Turned out TurboTax had submitted my return but there was a small discrepancy in my adjusted gross income from the previous year that triggered additional verification. Once I called the IRS (took forever to get through), they confirmed they had my return but it was in a manual review queue. Got my refund about 3 weeks after that call.

Check your TurboTax account. Look for transmission confirmation. Not just preparation confirmation. Two different things. Many people miss this. IRS won't have your return if transmission failed.

This "doesn't match our records" message is the bane of my existence during tax season! 😅 I've helped several friends through this exact situation. One tool that's been a game-changer is https://taxr.ai - it can analyze your tax transcript once you're able to access it and tell you exactly what's happening with your return. It's especially helpful for EIC/CTC returns since those have special processing codes. Once your return actually gets into the IRS system, taxr.ai can tell you if you're facing a simple delay or if there's an actual issue that needs addressing. Saved me hours of anxiety last year when my return had a similar issue!

After dealing with this exact situation last year (PATH Act delay + WMR not recognizing my information), I finally broke down and used Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) to get through to an actual IRS agent. The standard IRS phone lines had me on hold for 2+ hours before disconnecting me twice. Claimyr got me through to an agent in about 30 minutes who confirmed my return was in the system but flagged for manual review due to the credits claimed. Without speaking to an actual human at the IRS, I would have been in the dark for weeks longer. If you're really concerned about your filing status, getting direct confirmation from an agent is the only reliable way to know what's happening with your return.

Just checked the IRS operational status page, and they're reporting a known issue with the Where's My Refund tool for returns filed between January 22-30 that include certain credits. They're working on fixing the display issue, but it doesn't necessarily mean there's a problem with your actual return processing. Also, if you created a new IRS online account, you can try pulling your tax transcript directly. Sometimes your transcript will show processing codes even when WMR doesn't recognize your return yet. Look for code 150 which means your return has been processed.

Have you considered that this might be related to identity verification? The IRS has significantly increased verification measures for returns with refundable credits like EIC and CTC this year. You might want to proactively check if you need to verify your identity through the IRS Identity Verification Service. Many taxpayers don't realize they need to complete this step until weeks have passed. What if your return is just sitting there waiting for you to verify your identity? Also, have you received any letters from the IRS in the mail? Sometimes they send notices requesting additional information before they'll process your return further, especially with credits like EIC that have higher fraud rates.

I'm wondering if maybe I should go ahead and try to verify my identity even if I haven't received a letter yet? Is that possible? Or would that potentially cause more problems if they haven't actually flagged my return for verification? I'm just not sure if being proactive helps or hurts in this situation...

Thank you for this detailed explanation. I've been through the identity verification process before, and it's definitely worth checking. In my experience, you can attempt to verify through ID.me on the IRS website even if you haven't received a letter. If verification isn't required for your account, the system will simply tell you that no verification is needed at this time. No harm in checking.

Think of the IRS processing system like a massive traffic jam where cars with certain features (like your EIC and CTC) get directed to special lanes for extra inspection. Sometimes your car gets stuck between lanes and doesn't show up on the traffic cameras (WMR). You might want to try the IRS2Go mobile app instead of the website. For some strange reason, sometimes the app shows different information than the website. Also, check your return status very early in the morning (around 3-4am) when their systems are updating - that's when you're most likely to get accurate information before the daily traffic hits their servers.
