Anyone with Chase Bank still waiting for 5/15 direct deposit from IRS? Nothing showing yet

My tax transcript shows a direct deposit date of May 15 for my refund and it's now the 17th with nothing in my Chase account yet. Called the bank and they said they don't see any pending deposits either. Transcript shows code 846 with $5,634 next to it. This is my first time getting a refund so late in the year (filed in april) and I'm getting nervous. Anyone else with Chase having this issue? How long should I wait before contacting the IRS?

Paolo Longo

IRS direct deposits can sometimes take up to 5 business days to actually hit your account after the date listed on your transcript. The 846 code means your refund has been approved and scheduled, which is good news! The bank won't see it until it's actually transmitted by the Treasury. If you don't see anything by next Wednesday (assuming no holidays), then you should call the IRS. Make sure to check both your account transaction history and pending deposits daily. Sometimes these deposits hit accounts at weird times - not just in the morning like regular direct deposits.

Thanks for the info! I was told the money would be in my account ON the 15th so I've been getting really anxious. I'll wait until next week before panicking.

This is exactly right. Happened to me this year too - had a DD date of 4/29 but didn't actually get the money until 5/3. The IRS website was no help, just kept saying "your refund is scheduled".

Yep, the dates aren't exact. My GF had a DD date of 5/1 and got it 5/4. I had a DD date of 4/12 and got it 4/12. It's inconsistent.

I had this EXACT same problem but finally figured out what was happening with my refund using taxr.ai - it's a tool that actually explains all those cryptic codes and dates on your transcript. Turns out my DD was delayed because of a verification issue I didn't even know about. The tool showed me exactly why it was held up and when I could expect it (2 days later than transcript date). Way better than trying to piece together random info from posts like a detective. Here's the site: https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It's AMAZING! It analyzes your entire transcript and explains everything in plain English. Shows all your refund details, why there might be delays, and even predicts when you'll actually get paid. I was so confused before using it - now I actually understand what's happening with my money. Seriously, best tool I've used for tax stuff ever.

Another app trying to make money off confused taxpayers 🙄 does it actually work tho?

Listen I was skeptical too but it literally saved me hours of stress. My refund had some weird hold that the IRS website didn't explain - taxr showed me exactly what it was and when it would clear. Worth every penny not to spend days obsessively refreshing my bank app and WMR!

I was in the same situation with my refund and Chase last month! After waiting 3 days past the DD date and getting nowhere with the automated IRS line, I used this calling service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me past the busy signals to talk to an actual IRS agent. The agent told me my deposit was sent but needed address verification, and they fixed it right there. Money was in my account two days later. Seriously saved me weeks of waiting and confusion.

Wait what? An app that gets you through to the IRS? Is this for real or some kind of scam?

Totally legit - they basically help you skip the hold times. You still talk directly to the IRS yourself. Best money I ever spent after trying to call for 2 weeks straight and never getting through. The agent I finally talked to fixed my issue in like 10 minutes.

No catch man, it just works. I was desperate after calling the IRS 20+ times myself. The service called and when they got through, they connected me. Talking directly to an agent got my refund released in days instead of who knows how long. Try calling the IRS yourself if you want, but good luck getting past the busy signals lol

I bank with Chase and had a DD date of 5/10. Money showed up on 5/12. Chase sometimes holds tax refunds for a day or two for "verification" which is so annoying. If you're really worried, go into a branch and ask them to check if there's any pending deposit or hold on your account.

the IRS is a friggen joke these days. My wife's refund was supposed to come 2/15 and we didnt get it til 3/1. No explanation, no nothin. Just had to wait. meanwhile I'm trying to pay bills and they're sitting on OUR money. Not like they pay us interest for being late right???

-

EXACTLY! If we're late paying them, there are penalties and interest. But when they're late paying us? "Just wait. It's coming." 🤬

The system is completely broken. I had to wait 11 months for my 2022 refund. ELEVEN MONTHS.

11 months?!? That should be criminal. How did you survive that? Did you have to keep calling them?

Called about once a month for the first 6 months, always got different answers. Finally used Claimyr to get through in December and they fixed it in one call. Money was in my account a week later. Should've done that from the start.

I have BofA not Chase, but had a similar issue last month. My DD date was 4/20 but nothing came through until 4/24. I called the IRS and they said once they send it, it's up to the banks to process it, and some banks hold tax refunds longer than regular deposits. So frustrating but nothing you can do but wait unfortunately.

AstroAlpha

BofA is THE WORST with tax refunds. They've held mine for 3-4 days every year for the past 5 years.

So this is normal? I thought something was wrong with my refund. Guess I'll just keep waiting then...

Check if your transcript has any other codes like 570 or 971 near the 846. Those could indicate there was an adjustment or hold that might delay things. If it's just the 846 with no other recent codes, then it's probably just the normal delay between IRS sending and bank posting.

0 coins

-

Keisha Johnson

My transcript shows a 570 from April 10th, then a 571 on April 24th, and finally the 846 on May 5th with the 5/15 date. Does that mean anything?

0 coins

-

20d

Diego Chavez

That sequence means there WAS a hold (570) on your account that was later released (571). The 846 means they approved your refund after resolving whatever the issue was. Since those earlier codes are from weeks ago, they shouldn't be affecting your current DD. Probably just standard bank processing time.

This is why I finally broke down and used taxr.ai - I was so tired of trying to decode all these random numbers myself. The tool explains everything in plain English including what all those codes mean together and when you'll actually get paid.

Pro tip: If you're worried about your refund, create an account on the IRS website and download your transcripts. The transcript will show if there are any issues with your return or if the refund has actually been sent. Look for code 846 which means refund issued.

I went through this last year with Chase. Called them like 5 times and they kept saying they didn't see anything. Finally on day 4 after my DD date the money just appeared in my account. No explanation, no notification, just suddenly there. The whole system is a mess.

-

Keisha Johnson

That's reassuring to hear it eventually showed up. I've already called Chase twice and they just keep saying they don't see anything coming.

Do you have offset? If you owe any federal or state debts like student loans, child support, etc, they might have taken some/all of your refund. You'd get a letter explaining this but sometimes the letter comes after the reduced refund. Check your transcript to see if the amount changed.

0 coins

-

Keisha Johnson

No, I don't have any federal debts or offsets. And the amount on my transcript matches what I was expecting to get.

I just went through this nightmare. My deposit date was 5/1 and I didn't get it until 5/8. I called the IRS every day for a week using that Claimyr service (claimyr.com). On day 6 they told me there was a "processing error" on their end that was fixed during the call. Refund came the next day. It was worth getting someone on the phone instead of just waiting and wondering.

How much does that service cost? I've been trying to get through to the IRS for weeks.

I don't remember exactly but it was completely worth it. Spent hours trying to call myself and always got busy signals. With Claimyr I was talking to an agent in less than an hour. Talking to the IRS directly got my money released way faster than just waiting around.

It's not a hack lol, it's just a service that waits on hold for you. You still talk directly to the IRS yourself. I was skeptical too but was desperate after not getting through for days. It worked exactly as advertised - they called, got through the queue, then connected me.

Have you checked Where's My Refund on the IRS website? Sometimes that gives more up-to-date info than the transcript. Also did you get a notification from the IRS app (if you have it installed)? I got a push notification about an hour before my refund actually hit my bank.

0 coins

-

Keisha Johnson

Where's My Refund still just says "Your refund was sent to your bank on May 15" but nothing about a delay. I don't have the IRS app though, maybe I'll try that.

The IRS doesn't actually deposit the money at midnight on the DD date like everyone thinks. They process the ACH transfer on that date, which means it usualy takes 24-48 hours (business days only) to actually hit accounts. Some banks (like mine) show the pending deposit as soon as the ACH is initiated, others (like Chase apparently) don't show it until it fully posts. Just wait a bit longer.

I saw someone post this in another thread, but if you filed with TurboTax or H&R Block and had fees taken out of your refund, sometimes that can cause delays because your money goes through their bank first before getting to you. Did you pay for tax prep with your refund?

0 coins

-

Keisha Johnson

No, I paid for TurboTax upfront with my credit card. So that shouldn't be the issue.

I was confused about my tax transcript too - couldn't figure out why my refund wasn't showing up despite having a DD date. Used taxr.ai and it showed me that the refund was actual sent on the right date but my bank was holding it for verification. The tool even showed which bank was causing the delay! Saved me hours of stress and research.

Honestly it's just way more specific and useful than trying to Google every code and number on your transcript. It takes all your specific info and explains it in normal language - shows exact timelines, reasons for delays, everything. I'm usually skeptical too but this actually helped me understand wtf was happening with my refund.

Anyone else notice how the IRS seems to ALWAYS be late with refunds but if you owe them money they want it RIGHT ON TIME? 🙄 I had a DD date of 4/5 this year and didn't get it until 4/12. No explanation, no apology, just "that's how it works". Meanwhile if we're late paying we get hit with penalties and interest. Make it make sense.

Last year they were 3 MONTHS late with my refund and I got ZERO compensation. If I had been 3 months late paying them, the penalties would have been hundreds of dollars.

DD dates are more like suggestions than actual commitments 😂 Just keep checking your account daily. In my experience Chase has been slower than other banks with IRS deposits. My husband got his through our credit union 2 days before I got mine through Chase, even though we filed together and had the same DD date.

I was literally in your exact situation a few weeks ago. Had to call the IRS but could never get through on their normal number. A friend told me about Claimyr (claimyr.com) and I finally got to speak with an agent who told me there was a verification flag on my account that was causing the delay. Got it resolved in that call and my refund showed up 3 days later. Talking to an actual human at the IRS made all the difference.

So I was about to throw my laptop after 3 hours trying to call the IRS directly with no luck. Claimyr basically calls for you, navigates the phone tree, waits on hold, and then connects you when they reach a human. It was worth every penny to finally talk to someone who could actually help me instead of getting busy signals and hangups all day.

It's real. You still talk directly to the IRS agent yourself - they just handle getting through the phone system. I used it twice now and both times I got through when I couldn't on my own. Beats sitting on hold for 3 hours or getting busy signals for days.
