Direct Deposit Status Check - Chase Bank 3/20
Filed my 1040 with Schedule C on 2/15 and IRS accepted same day. Transcript shows 846 code with DDD of 3/20. Called Chase customer service representative today and she confirmed there is nothing pending on my account yet. No provisional credits or ACH transfers in queue. Last tax year I received my deposit 2 days before official DDD, so I was expecting similar processing timeframe for 2024 refund cycle.

Have you checked your transcript again today? Sometimes the bank doesn't see pending deposits until they're actually initiated by the Treasury, right? And have you verified that your routing and account numbers match exactly what's on your return? Many banks don't process ACH transfers on weekends, so Monday might be your day if the DDD is 3/20.

It's like waiting for a train that's always on time, until the one day you're counting on it, isn't it? I wonder if the Treasury Department batches these differently depending on which service center processed your return?

According to the IRS.gov FAQ section on direct deposits, they typically send the funds 1-2 business days before the official DDD. Has anyone received their Chase deposits early this filing season? The IGOT.MyRefund forum has a whole thread tracking early deposits by bank.

Last year my Chase deposit came exactly on my DDD, not early like many others reported. The year before that it was a day early. I've learned that it's never consistent year to year even with the same bank and filing method.

OMG same boat here! DDD 3/20, Chase acct, nothing yet. Last yr got mine 2 days b4 DDD date. Checked w/ Chase this AM and rep said they don't hold IRS deposits once received. Seems like Treasury is sending batches differently this yr? FYI - my WMR still shows "approved" not "sent" so maybe that's why. Gonna check again tmrw AM b4 work.

I had the exact same experience with Chase in 2022. My refund showed up at precisely 3:17 AM on the DDD. Last year was totally different though - got it a day early. I think it depends on which processing center handles your return and when they release the batch.

Thank you for sharing this! I've been refreshing my Chase app every 20 minutes like a crazy person! 😫 So stressful when you're counting on that money!

Have you noticed any pattern with the time of day Chase typically posts these deposits? I've heard some banks have specific windows when they process ACH transfers from the Treasury.

I faced this exact situation last year. Here's what I learned through the process: 1. First, Chase doesn't always show pending IRS deposits until they post 2. Second, the Treasury Department sends refunds in batches, not all at once 3. Third, your DDD doesn't guarantee same-day deposit - it could be that day or 1-2 days after I was desperate to find out what was happening with my refund last year, so I tried calling the IRS. After 2 hours on hold, I gave up. Then I found Claimyr.com - it got me through to an actual IRS agent in about 20 minutes. The agent confirmed my refund had been sent to my bank that morning, and it showed up in my Chase account later that day. Worth every penny when you need answers fast: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

I'm an accountant who works with many Chase clients, and I've observed that approximately 70% of Chase customers with a DDD of Monday-Wednesday typically receive their deposits on the actual DDD, while about 30% receive them 1-2 days early. For Thursday-Friday DDDs, the early deposit percentage increases to roughly 45%. This pattern seems to be somewhat consistent across tax years, though there are occasional variations that might be attributable to Treasury Department processing schedules or Chase's internal systems.

I had this exact issue on March 15th, 2023. My DDD was March 15th, but nothing showed in my Chase account all day. I called Chase at 4:30pm and they said no pending deposits. By 7:00pm I was panicking. Then at 11:47pm - literally 13 minutes before midnight - the deposit hit my account! The IRS technically met their deadline, but it was nerve-wracking. If your DDD is March 20th, I'd wait until at least March 21st before worrying. The IRS batch processing system has been especially slow this tax season due to the new verification procedures implemented on February 26th.

Thank you for sharing this! It helps to know I'm not the only one experiencing this anxiety. I'll try to be patient until at least the 21st.

This happened to me too! Last year my deposit didn't show until 11:23pm on my DDD. I was checking my account every 30 minutes all day. Chase customer service kept saying they had nothing pending, then boom - suddenly there it was.

What are these new verification procedures you mentioned from February 26th? Is that why processing seems slower this year?

Does anyone know if Chase notifies you when deposits like this arrive? I have alerts set up but I'm not sure if they work for tax refunds specifically.

I've been tracking Chase direct deposits for tax refunds for several years now. A few things to consider about your situation: Have you checked if your refund includes any refundable credits like EITC or CTC? Those sometimes follow a different deposit timeline. What does your transcript show for transaction codes? Is there anything besides the 846 code that might indicate a partial offset or review? Did you file electronically or by paper? Electronic filers typically see deposits processed more predictably than paper filers.
