Unexpected DEO payments in CONNECT - random $750 deposit after claiming weeks

OK this is driving me crazy! Just got a weird random $750 deposit from DEO this morning with ZERO explanation. My payment pattern has been totally unpredictable. Last week I claimed my regular weeks and received $687.50 as expected, then $1500 showed up a day later (which I think was backpay??). CONNECT showed I wasn't supposed to claim again until May 23rd, but I logged in today out of curiosity and it suddenly prompted me to claim a week from early May - like before my waiting week even started! I'm thinking this random $750 might be for the waiting week they're now paying? Or possibly for that random early May week it had me claim? Anyone else dealing with these random unexplained payments? I'm grateful for the money but terrified they'll say I was overpaid later. The CONNECT system is so glitchy lately! 🤯

This sounds like they're processing a retroactive payment for your waiting week. Florida DEO recently changed their policy to pay for waiting weeks, but the system implementation has been inconsistent. The $750 is likely your weekly benefit amount plus the additional federal supplement for that waiting week. As for claiming that early May week, that's actually a good sign - it means they're allowing you to claim all eligible weeks including ones that were initially skipped in the system. Just make sure you keep documentation of all payments received in case there's confusion later.

Thanks for explaining! Do you know if I should be doing anything to document these random payments? I'm taking screenshots of my CONNECT account but the payment history section doesn't always update at the same time as deposits hit my account.

Did you ever figure out what it was for? Did you try calling DEO to ask?

The CONNECT system is completely BROKEN! I've been getting random deposits for 3 weeks now - some weeks double payments, some weeks nothing at all. When I finally managed to talk to someone at DEO after 47 CALLS, they couldn't even explain it!!! Just said "the system is catching up with backpay" but couldn't tell me WHICH weeks were being paid. How are we supposed to budget when money just randomly appears with no explanation?? And then they'll probably demand it all back in 6 months claiming WE made the mistake!

Wow, you actually got through to a human at DEO? I've been trying for two weeks! How did you manage that? I keep getting disconnected after waiting on hold for 2+ hours.

This is actually happening to a bunch of people right now. The DEO is retroactively processing claims from when their system glitched in early May. The random week they had you claim was probably in their system as "skipped" for some reason. I had the exact same thing - told me to come back on the 25th, then randomly showed a week to claim from April. Got a payment 2 days later. The $750 is probably your regular benefit amount + the federal supplement for that week you just claimed. Their payment system and their notification system aren't synced up properly, which is why you got the money with no explanation. Don't worry - just keep claiming when prompted and documenting everything. Take screenshots of your payment history page once a week just to be safe.

That makes so much sense! The timing lines up perfectly with that system glitch everyone was talking about in early May. Such a relief to know other people are experiencing this too.

I spent 3 days trying to reach someone at DEO about a similar issue. Finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through - they connected me to a DEO agent in about 20 minutes. The agent explained that they're processing retroactive payments for weeks that were impacted by system maintenance in early May. They're also paying waiting weeks now which they weren't before. There's a video that shows how the service works: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj The agent told me to keep claiming weeks whenever CONNECT prompts me to, even if the schedule seems off. Apparently their system is trying to catch up but the notifications aren't always working correctly.

Wait I'm totally lost about the waiting week - I thought Florida never pays the waiting week? Did they change this in 2025? Haven't been on unemployment since 2023.

Yes, Florida changed their policy in March 2025 to pay waiting weeks. It was part of their system modernization project. So if you served a waiting week after March 15th, 2025, you should eventually receive payment for it. They're still processing these retroactively which is why some people are getting unexpected deposits.

Update: I finally got through to DEO this morning! The representative confirmed that the $750 was for my waiting week that they're now paying retroactively. She also said the random week I was prompted to claim was due to a "recalculation of my benefit year" whatever that means. She advised me to just keep claiming weeks whenever CONNECT prompts me to, even if the schedule seems weird. Apparently their system update in May caused some weeks to be "lost" temporarily and now they're fixing it. Thanks everyone for the help and sharing your experiences! At least I know I'm not going crazy 😅

How did you manage to get through to them? I've been trying for days!

@profile4 I called right when they opened at 7:30am and still waited on hold for 1.5 hours. I think Monday mornings are slightly better than other times. Just had to keep redialing when it disconnected me (about 8 times).
