Random $600 DEO deposit appeared today - is this my waiting week payment?
I'm confused! Just checked my account and found a random $600 deposit from FL DEO today. I filed my unemployment claim about 3 weeks ago, and my CONNECT account shows my claim is active, but I thought the first week was a waiting week that doesn't get paid? The deposit doesn't match my weekly benefit amount (which should be $275). Has this happened to anyone else? Could this be backpay or some kind of mistake? I don't want to spend it and then have to pay it back if they messed up!

congrats! probably not the waiting week though. waiting week doesn't get paid at all in FL. might be retroactive payments or something? did u check your payment history in CONNECT? that usually tells u exactly what weeks they're paying u for

•Thanks! I just checked payment history in CONNECT and it's super confusing - doesn't show any $600 payment! Just shows my regular weekly benefits as pending. Now I'm even more worried they made a mistake...

That $600 payment is definitely not the waiting week. The waiting week is unpaid in Florida as of 2025. What you received is likely your regular weekly benefit amount ($275) plus the Federal Income Tax refund for previous weeks claimed. DEO sometimes applies tax adjustments retroactively if you initially selected to have taxes withheld but were eligible for a refund. Check your Monetary Determination letter in CONNECT. Does it show your WBA (Weekly Benefit Amount) is $275? If so, the extra amount is almost certainly a tax adjustment or retroactive payment for a previous week that was initially denied but then approved upon review. If I were you, I'd document everything - take screenshots of your payment history, determination letters, and bank statement. Then call DEO to confirm what the payment represents before spending it.

•My WBA is $275, you're right. But I never opted for tax withholding when I applied (wanted to get the full amount now). Could it be retroactive from when I first applied? There was about a 10-day gap between application and approval.

WAITING WEEK DOESN'T GET PAID!!! DEO system is a MESS!!!! I got random deposits twice during my claim last year - one was legit backpay and one was an ERROR they made me pay back 3 months later with PENALTIES!!!! CALL THEM ASAP to verify what this is before touching that money!!!!

•Had same issue! Got a surprise $420 deposit that wasn't showing anywhere in my CONNECT account. Spent two weeks trying to reach DEO by phone with no luck - busy signals or disconnects. Finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got through to an agent in 27 minutes. Turns out it was approved retroactive payment from when my claim was in adjudication. Their video explains exactly how it works: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj - saved me hours of redial frustration.

This is most likely what's called a "Supplemental Payment." When DEO reviews claims in batches, they sometimes find weeks that were underpaid due to system errors or adjudication results. The $600 is probably a combination of: 1. Regular weekly benefit amount: $275 2. Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation that was missed: $300 3. Interest payment: $25 (they're required to add interest to delayed payments) Check your Determination History in CONNECT. Look for any recent determination letters, especially ones marked "Monetary Reconsideration" or "Supplemental Payment Determination." These will explain exactly what the payment covers. Definitely not the waiting week though. Florida hasn't paid waiting weeks since the temporary pandemic exception ended.

•Wait - is FPUC still a thing in 2025? I thought all the pandemic programs ended years ago? I don't see any determination letters about supplemental payments, just my regular monetary determination from when I first applied.

You're absolutely right - FPUC ended years ago. My mistake for mentioning outdated information. The pandemic programs like FPUC, PUA, PEUC, etc. are completely gone now. In that case, the most likely explanations are: 1. Back payment for weeks that were initially pending but got approved 2. An adjustment based on wage investigation (if they found additional wages) 3. A system error (unfortunately common) Without specific determination letters explaining it, I'd recommend not spending the money until you can confirm with DEO directly. Could you check if there are any messages in your CONNECT inbox?

•Been dealing with DEO for years now (unfortunately). The $600 is likely a combination of payments. Did you have any weeks that were denied initially and then approved after fact-finding or adjudication? That happens a lot. When DEO reverses a denial, they sometimes batch multiple weeks together in one payment. The other possibility is wage recalculation. If they initially calculated your WBA based on incomplete wage data and then found additional quarters of employment, they might adjust upward and pay the difference retroactively. Either way, definitely check your determination history AND inbox in CONNECT. Sometimes they send notices explaining adjustments.

Thanks everyone for the helpful responses! Just as an update - I FINALLY got through to someone at DEO after trying for 2 days straight. Turns out it was a combination of things: 1. They initially denied my first claimed week due to "insufficient work search activities" but after review approved it ($275) 2. They found additional wages from a job I had that pushed my weekly benefit amount up by $25 per week 3. That higher amount was retroactively applied to my previous approved week ($25) 4. They also added a one-time adjustment for some technical reason the agent couldn't really explain clearly ($275) So it all adds up to $600! The agent confirmed I can keep it all, so I'm relieved. Really appreciate everyone's help here!

Don't forget to maintain your work search requirements going forward! Now that they're requiring 5 work search activities per week, they're getting really strict about verifying them. I had a week denied last month for only having 4 activities logged, and it took forever to appeal.
