Confused about waiting week payment - DEO sent money to bank but waiting week missing

So I just checked my account and noticed DEO deposited $275 to my bank, but there's nothing for my waiting week. I thought Florida was supposed to be paying the waiting week now? My claim was approved about 3 weeks ago, and this is my first payment. I'm grateful something came through but I'm confused about the waiting week payment. Has the policy changed in 2025 or am I missing something? My CONNECT account shows the first week as 'waiting week' but doesn't show any payment for it.

Florida still has the waiting week requirement, but they do eventually pay it. The system processes it differently than regular weeks. Your first payment is typically for your second claimed week. The waiting week payment usually gets processed after you've received a few regular payments - sometimes 3-4 weeks later. Keep claiming your weeks and you should eventually see that waiting week payment come through.

Oh thank you! That's a relief. I thought maybe I was missing out on money I was entitled to. I'll keep an eye out for it in the coming weeks.

DEO is ALWAYS playing games with our money!! I had to wait 8 weeks before they paid my waiting week last year. And when I called to ask about it they acted like I was crazy for even expecting it. The whole system is designed to frustrate people into giving up. Keep claiming and documenting EVERYTHING.

While it can be frustrating, the waiting week payment delay is actually built into their system process. It's not meant to trick anyone - it's just how their outdated CONNECT system handles the sequencing. Most people do receive their waiting week eventually without having to take any special steps.

I was in the same situation a couple months ago! My waiting week wasn't paid until my 5th payment. If you want to check on it, good luck getting through to DEO on the phone. I used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to a rep in about 20 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj. The agent confirmed waiting weeks are processed separately and told me mine was coming soon - got it the next payment cycle.

It worked for me - they just help you get through to an actual DEO agent faster. You still talk directly to DEO yourself. Saved me hours of redial frustration.

This happened to me to!!! I got my first deposit and thought they forgort my waitng week. But then like a month or so later I randomly got another deposit and when I checked CONNECT it said it was for my waiting week. The DEO system is confusing but you should get ur money eventually just keep checking ur account.

That's good to hear! Seems like this is just how their system works. I'll keep an eye on my account.

Just to provide some technical clarity on this: Under Florida's Reemployment Assistance program, the waiting week is the first week of your claim that meets eligibility requirements. While it was temporarily waived during COVID, the waiting week requirement was reinstated in 2021. The system is designed to pay the waiting week after you've received benefits for three consecutive weeks. This is programmed into CONNECT as a verification mechanism. So as long as you continue claiming weeks and remaining eligible, your waiting week should be paid automatically after your third or fourth payment without any action needed on your part.

Yeah well tell that to all the people who NEVER got their waiting week paid! I know at least 3 people personally who had to file appeals to get it. The system is BROKEN.

That's unfortunate to hear. If anyone doesn't receive their waiting week payment after 6-8 weeks of continuous claiming, I would recommend contacting a DEO representative. At that point, there could be a specific issue with your claim that needs addressing.

my cousin works for the unemployment office and she says the waiting week is a way they save money hoping people don't follow up on it lol

That's actually not accurate. The waiting week is a standard practice in unemployment systems across many states. In Florida, it's designed to be paid after several consecutive weeks of claiming, which serves as a verification mechanism. It's not intended to trick people out of payments.

Update: You guys were right! Just checked my account this morning and there was another $275 deposit for my waiting week. Took about 5 weeks total from when I first applied. Thanks everyone for the help and reassurance!

Great news! The DEO system works eventually, just not always efficiently. Glad you got what you were entitled to!
