Need help filing FL unemployment claim after working in Miami - any tips?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I worked in Miami last year and now I'm unemployed. I want to file for unemployment benefits but I'm not sure where to start. Has anyone gone through this process recently? Any tips or advice would be really appreciated!

Welcome to the club, buddy. 🙃 I filed for unemployment in Florida a few months ago, and let me tell you, it's a real treat (not). Here's what I learned: 1. First, go to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) website. That's where you'll file your claim. 2. Make sure you have all your employment info ready - dates, employer names, addresses, the whole shebang. 3. Be patient. The system can be slow and glitchy af. 4. Double-check everything before you submit. One tiny mistake can delay your claim for weeks. 5. After you file, you'll need to claim your weeks regularly. Set a reminder so you don't forget. 6. If you run into issues (and you probably will), try calling them. Good luck with that tho 🙄 Hang in there, it's a process but you'll get through it!

•Thanks so much for this detailed info! Really appreciate it. Quick question - how long did it take for your claim to get processed after you submitted everything?

•Glad to help! For me, it took about 3 weeks to get processed. But I've heard it can vary a lot. Some people get lucky and it's faster, others... not so much. Just keep checking your account for updates.

Ugh, the Florida unemployment system is a nightmare. I swear they make it complicated on purpose. Good luck, OP. You're gonna need it. 😩

•For real tho. It's like they're trying to discourage people from claiming benefits. So frustrating!

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/AsdxiF0IH1k

•Woah, that sounds too good to be true. Does it really work? How long did you have to wait?

•It really does work! I was skeptical at first too. I waited about 2 hours, but I didn't have to be on the phone that whole time. The service called me when an agent was on the line.

•$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken. 😤

•I get it, it sucks to pay. But for me, it was worth it to finally get my issues resolved. Saved me days of frustration.

Has anyone had luck with the mobile app? I heard it's less glitchy than the website, but idk if that's true.

Pro tip: if you're having trouble with your claim, reach out to your local state representative. They can sometimes help push things through faster. Worked for me!

•This is actually great advice. My rep's office was super helpful when I was stuck in limbo for weeks.

•How do you even find out who your local rep is? 🤔

•Just Google "Find my Florida state representative" and you'll get a website where you can enter your address. Easy peasy!

Anyone else feel like they need a degree in rocket science to navigate the DEO website? 🚀🤓 Asking for a friend...

Hey OP, don't forget to check if you're eligible for any of the federal extensions or additional programs. Sometimes there's extra help available that isn't super obvious on the main unemployment page.

•Thanks for the heads up! I'll definitely look into that. Any idea where I can find info on these extensions?

•Check the DEO website under "COVID-19 Resources" or "Federal Programs". They usually list any current extensions or additional benefits there. If you can't find it, give them a call (if you can get through lol).
