Hey everyone, I need to reapply for unemployment benefits. Has anyone gone through this process recently? What should I expect? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I just went through this last month. It's not too bad, but make sure you have all your employment info ready. They'll ask for dates, wages, and reasons for separation from your last job. Good luck!

ā¢Thanks for the info! Do you remember how long it took for them to process your reapplication?

ā¢It took about 2 weeks for me, but I've heard it can vary. Some people get approved faster, others might wait longer. Just keep checking your account for updates.

ā¢2 weeks? You're lucky! I've been waiting for over a month now. š« The system is so backed up.

Ugh, reapplying is such a pain. I had to do it twice because they said they never received my first application. Make sure you save confirmation numbers and take screenshots of everything!

Pro tip: call early in the morning, right when they open. It's the best chance to get through to a real person if you have questions. Otherwise, you'll be on hold forever.

Hey, I found a method to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video for more info: https://youtu.be/0UZGuPWGErg

ā¢Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

ā¢20 bucks? That's steep. Why should we have to pay to get basic service? š¤

ā¢I get the skepticism, but it seriously saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo. They connected me in like 30 minutes when I'd been trying for days.

Make sure you're eligible before reapplying! I made the mistake of reapplying too soon and got denied. You usually need to have earned enough wages since your last claim. Check the EDD website for specifics.

Here's a detailed breakdown of what to expect when reapplying for unemployment benefits: ⢠Gather all necessary documents: recent pay stubs, W-2 forms, and any separation paperwork from your last job. ⢠Go to the EDD website and log into your account. ⢠Click on 'File New Claim' or 'Reopen Claim' depending on your situation. ⢠Fill out the application carefully. Double-check all information before submitting. ⢠You'll need to provide: - Personal information (SSN, contact details, etc.) - Employment history for the last 18 months - Reason for unemployment - Bank details for direct deposit (optional but recommended) ⢠After submitting, you'll get a confirmation number. Save it! ⢠EDD will process your application, which can take 2-3 weeks. ⢠You may receive a request for additional information by mail or in your online inbox. ⢠Once approved, you'll get a Notice of Unemployment Insurance Award letter. ⢠Start certifying for benefits every two weeks. Remember, the process can be frustrating, but stay patient and persistent. Good luck!

ā¢Great info, but you forgot to mention that sometimes they require a phone interview. I had to wait an extra 3 weeks for that!

ā¢Good point! Phone interviews aren't always required, but they can happen if there's any discrepancy or question about your application. Thanks for adding that!

ā¢Calm down, its not that bad. Just follow the steps and be patient. Your negative attitude wont help anything.

Quick question - does anyone know if gig work affects reapplying? I've been doing some food delivery on the side while looking for full-time work.

ā¢You need to report any income, including gig work. It might reduce your weekly benefit amount, but being honest is crucial. Don't risk fraud charges!

I reapplied last week and got approved in 3 days! Maybe they've finally fixed the backlog? š¤

Just wanted to add that if you're reapplying after your benefit year ended, make sure you check if you have any remaining balance from your previous claim first. Sometimes you can just reopen your existing claim instead of filing a brand new one, which is usually faster. I learned this the hard way after waiting weeks for a new claim when I could have just reopened! Also, keep copies of everything you submit - I mean EVERYTHING. Screenshots, confirmation emails, the works. The system can be glitchy and you'll want proof if something goes wrong.

ā¢This is such valuable advice! I wish I had known about the difference between reopening vs filing new. Question - how do you check if you have a remaining balance from a previous claim? Is that something you can see in your online account?
