How long for DEO child support withholding to reach CS office? Payment delay issues
I just started getting Florida unemployment benefits last month after being laid off from construction work. DEO is taking out the child support from my weekly payments (about $97 per week), but my ex is saying she hasn't received anything yet through the CS enforcement office. It's been over 3 weeks now with deductions showing on my CONNECT account, but nothing has hit her account. Is there a normal delay for this? Will it come as one lump sum or weekly? My ex is really getting on my case about this and I don't know what to tell her. I tried calling DEO but kept getting disconnected after waiting forever.

There's definitely a processing delay with child support deductions from DEO. When I was on unemployment last year, it took about 4-5 weeks for the first payment to hit my ex's account. After that initial delay, it was more regular but still took about 10-14 days from when it was withheld to when it appeared in the child support system. The CS enforcement office has to process what DEO sends them, which adds to the delay. I recommend checking with the Child Support Program directly at 800-622-KIDS (5437) to see if they show any pending payments in their system.

•Thanks for the info! That's really helpful. I'll try calling that CS number tomorrow. Did you ever get any kind of receipt or confirmation that the money was actually sent from DEO to the CS office? I wish they'd at least show that on the CONNECT portal.

•THIS IS ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. The DEO takes the deduction immediately but then it goes into a state processing system where it sits for WEEKS before actually being distributed!! They took mine for 6 weeks straight before my ex saw a DIME!!! And they wouldn't tell me anything about it when I called - just said "it's been processed on our end" - like that helps AT ALL!!! The state CS office was just as useless. Welcome to Florida's broken systems.

I went through this exact situation in January. The first child support payment from my unemployment took almost 5 weeks to reach my child's mother. The problem is that there are multiple systems that don't communicate well: 1. DEO takes the money from your benefits 2. DEO sends it to the Florida State Disbursement Unit (SDU) 3. SDU processes it and sends to the recipient Each step has delays. What worked for me was calling the Florida Child Support Program (not DEO) and asking them to check if payments were showing as "pending" in their system. If they see pending payments, at least you know the money left DEO and will eventually reach your ex. After the first payment finally went through, subsequent payments took about 7-10 business days to reach her.

•This is correct information. I'd also add that your ex can register for the Florida Disbursement Unit's payment portal at https://fl.smartchildsupport.com/ to see pending payments in their system. This might help reduce some tension as she'll be able to see when payments are in process even before they hit her account.

my payments to my ex took almost 2 months to start showing up and then they came in a big chunk all at once. deo is terrible at communicating with child support enforcement. my ex thought i was lying about being on unemployment until that lump sum hit.

I had trouble with this too and couldn't get answers from either DEO or child support office. I finally got through to someone at DEO who explained everything by using Claimyr. It's this service that gets you past the busy signals and connects you to an actual DEO agent. You can check out how it works at claimyr.com or this video explains it: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj When I finally got through, the DEO agent told me they submit child support withholdings to the state office in batches twice a month! So depending on when your payments fall, it could be sitting at DEO for up to 2 weeks before even being sent to the child support system. After that, CS takes another 5-10 business days to process. The agent was able to confirm exactly which payments had been sent to CS and which were still pending at DEO.

•That's really good info about the twice monthly batches. No wonder it's taking so long! I've been trying to call DEO daily with no luck. Maybe I'll try that service if I can't get through in the next couple days. At this point I need someone to tell me exactly where the money is so I can explain it to my ex.

HAS ANYONE TRIED CONTACTING YOUR STATE REPRESENTATIVE'S OFFICE?? When I had issues with my child support withholding last year, I was getting the runaround from DEO for WEEKS! I finally emailed my state rep's office and they have staff dedicated to helping with state agency issues. They got in touch with both DEO and the child support office for me and suddenly - MIRACLE! - my ex started receiving payments within 3 days. Sometimes you need to go above these broken agencies!

One thing that might help in the meantime - I took screenshots of my CONNECT payment history showing the child support deductions and texted them to my ex. This at least proved I wasn't lying about the money being taken out of my benefits. You can access this by logging into CONNECT and going to "View and Maintain Account Information" then "Payment History." It clearly shows each deduction for child support. Might help reduce some tension while waiting for the system to catch up.

•Just did this! Thanks for the suggestion. She still wasn't happy but at least stopped accusing me of lying about it. I also called the CS number this morning and they confirmed they haven't received anything from DEO yet but said it's "normal" for there to be delays. Unbelievable that they think 3+ weeks is normal.

My sister works for child support enforcement (not in Florida though) and she says they always tell people to expect 30-45 days for the first payment to process when it comes from unemployment benefits. Something about how the systems interface or don't interface properly. Just FYI.

Update for anyone else finding this thread with the same issue: I checked with my case from last year, and the exact timing was 37 days from my first unemployment payment with child support withheld until it appeared in my ex's account. After that, it was consistently 12-14 days for each subsequent payment. The system is frustratingly slow, but it does eventually work. Also worth noting - when the payments finally started, they came individually (not as one lump sum), but several showed up on the same day since they were all backlogged in the system.

•Thanks for the update. We're at day 25 now since the first deduction. Based on everyone's experiences here, sounds like we've got another 1-2 weeks to go. I'll update this thread when it finally goes through in case it helps anyone else with the same problem.
