DEO unemployment claim issue or tax refund delay? Anyone else waiting on their 2025 tax return?
I filed my Florida unemployment claim back in January but now I'm worried about something completely different. Has anyone here received their 2025 tax refund yet? I filed in March but there was some confusion with my healthcare marketplace subsidy (apparently I reported something wrong). I fixed the error and resubmitted almost 8 weeks ago but still nothing! The IRS website just says it's 'processing'. I know this isn't directly DEO related, but I'm wondering if other unemployment claimants are experiencing similar delays? Between waiting on unemployment benefits and now this tax refund, my finances are stretched thin.

4 months?! That's awful. Did you have to call them multiple times or did it just magically appear one day?

This isn't directly related to DEO unemployment claims, but I can tell you the IRS is experiencing significant delays this year, especially with Affordable Care Act (healthcare marketplace) reconciliation issues. I had a similar problem and what worked for me was calling the dedicated ACA tax credit hotline at 844-545-5640 rather than the regular IRS number. They have specialists who can see exactly what's happening with your return if there was a Form 8962 issue. My refund was released about 10 days after I spoke with them.

Thank you SO much for this specific number! I'll try calling tomorrow. I've been trying the regular IRS line and just getting disconnected after 40+ minutes on hold. I appreciate the help!

IS ANYONE ELSE FRUSTRATED WITH HOW EVERY GOVERNMENT SYSTEM IS BROKEN?!?! First DEO takes MONTHS to process unemployment claims with their horrible CONNECT system that crashes daily, and now the IRS can't even process basic tax returns on time??? I've been waiting 3 months for my refund too - they claim there was a \

While waiting for your tax refund, have you been able to get through to someone at DEO about your unemployment claim? I struggled for weeks trying to reach an agent until I discovered Claimyr. It's a service that helps you get through to an actual DEO agent without waiting on hold for hours. They have a demo video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj. I was skeptical at first but it got me through to resolve my adjudication issue. The website is claimyr.com if you're interested. Not sure if there's something similar for IRS issues though.

I hadn't heard of that service before! My unemployment claim is actually processing now (finally), but I might need this in the future. Thanks for sharing - the DEO phone system is absolutely impossible.

I know this isn't what you asked, but are you sure you should be filing for unemployment and getting marketplace subsidies at the same time? I think unemployment income counts toward your total income for subsidy calculations. That might be why you're having issues with your tax return. When I was on unemployment last year, I had to report my benefits as income to the marketplace and my subsidy amount changed.

That's a really good point I hadn't considered. I did report my unemployment income on my taxes, but maybe I didn't update my marketplace application when I started receiving benefits. I'll definitely look into this - thank you!

This happened to me too! The holdup was because of Form 8962 (Premium Tax Credit form). If you got subsidies for health insurance but your income ended up different than what you estimated, the IRS has to recalculate everything. I finally got my refund after 14 weeks. What worked for me was creating an account on the IRS website and checking my tax transcript - it showed exactly where the delay was happening before my regular

I didn't even know I could check my tax transcript online! That sounds way more helpful than the vague

anybody know if DEO reports to the IRS directly? wondering if thats why both systems r so slow lol

Yes, DEO does report unemployment benefit payments to the IRS. You should receive a 1099-G form from DEO showing the total benefits received in a tax year. This is also sent to the IRS. However, the two systems operate independently, so delays in one don't necessarily cause delays in the other. The current IRS backlog is primarily due to staffing shortages and processing challenges with various tax credit reconciliations.

People on unemployment often have tax issues too - especially with how DEO messes up our 1099-G forms half the time! This seems like a perfectly reasonable place to ask when both systems are failing us.
