DEO overpayment payments not showing in CONNECT - anyone else having this issue?

I received an overpayment notice from DEO back in January for $4,750 (they said I didn't report some income correctly in 2024). After fighting with them for months, I finally gave up and made my first payment of $500 toward it about 3 weeks ago. The problem is, when I log into CONNECT, it still shows I owe the full amount! The payment isn't showing up anywhere in my account. I used the online payment system and got a confirmation number, but it's like the payment never happened. Has anyone else paid back overpayment amounts? Is your CONNECT page actually reflecting those payments? I'm getting worried they're going to start garnishing my wages or something even though I'm trying to pay it back. Anyone know how long it typically takes for payments to show up in the system?

Yes, this happened to me too! I paid $350 toward my overpayment in February and it took almost 6 weeks to show up in CONNECT. Their system is incredibly slow updating payment records. I recommend keeping all your payment confirmations/receipts and maybe calling them to confirm they received it. If you have a confirmation number, you should be fine, but document everything just in case.

6 WEEKS? That's insane. I'll keep checking but this makes me feel a little better knowing I'm not the only one. Did you ever call them to confirm they got it, or did it just eventually show up?

The DEO payment processing system is completely separate from the CONNECT visual interface, and they don't sync in real-time. Your payment is probably being processed correctly but the visual update in CONNECT is delayed. Here's what you should do: 1. Save your confirmation number and receipt 2. Wait at least 4-5 weeks for processing 3. If it still doesn't appear, contact DEO directly They won't start garnishment actions if you're making payments, especially if you have documentation showing your payment attempts. Print or screenshot everything for your records.

Thanks for the detailed response. I took screenshots of the payment confirmation but not the actual receipt page (didn't think I'd need it). Hopefully the confirmation number is enough if I have to call them.

Did you call them about it? I wouldn't trust their system AT ALL. I'd be on the phone demanding they acknowledge the payment immediately. They'll probably try to add interest or penalties if their system doesn't show you paid!

This is exactly why I'm fighting my overpayment notice instead of paying it. The DEO systems are broken at every level. I've heard horror stories of people making payments that were never credited, then having their tax refunds intercepted anyway. If you paid online, PRINT EVERYTHING. If they try to garnish wages or take your tax refund, you'll need that proof. This department is completely incompetent.

I had this exact issue last year and nearly lost my mind trying to get through to someone at DEO to confirm my payment. After dozens of failed call attempts (endless busy signals and disconnects), I finally got through using Claimyr (claimyr.com). They connected me to a DEO agent within 30 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. The agent confirmed my payment was in their system but just hadn't updated in CONNECT yet. There's a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj - seriously saved me weeks of stress wondering if my payment was actually received.

Never heard of this service before. Did they actually get you through to a real person? I've been calling the main number for days and either get a busy signal or it hangs up after the automated message.

Yes, they got me through to an actual DEO representative. That's their whole service - they keep calling DEO until they get through, then connect you when an agent answers. Saved me from having to redial hundreds of times myself. The agent I spoke with pulled up my account and confirmed all my payment info even though it wasn't showing in CONNECT yet.

That makes me feel a bit better. I'll give it a few more weeks before really panicking.

I think some of you are confusing the payment processing system with CONNECT. They're not the same thing. CONNECT is just the claimant portal that shows a visual representation of your account status. The actual payment processing happens in a completely different DEO system that's much older. I worked for the state (not DEO) but have some knowledge of their systems. Your payment is probably fine, it just takes time for the two systems to sync up. Keep your confirmation number though - that's the most important thing.

If that's true, it's absolutely ridiculous. Why have a claimant portal that doesn't accurately show payment status? Just another example of how broken the whole system is.

Update: After reading all your responses, I decided to try calling DEO again this morning. After an hour of redialing, I actually got through! The agent confirmed they can see my $500 payment in their system, but said it can take 4-8 weeks to show in CONNECT. She put a note on my account about the call and told me not to worry. Thanks everyone for your help and sharing your experiences!

Great news! Glad you got confirmation. Always a relief to know the payment is actually in their system even if CONNECT is slow to update.

This is such a relief to read! I'm dealing with the exact same thing right now - made my first overpayment of $300 two weeks ago and have been checking CONNECT obsessively every day wondering if they actually got it. The confirmation number gives me some peace of mind, but seeing everyone's experiences with 4-8 week delays helps me understand this is just how their broken system works. I'm definitely going to print out everything and stop stressing about it for now. Thanks for sharing your update - it's so helpful to know they can actually see payments in their internal system even when CONNECT doesn't show it!
