DEO changed my claim effective date over phone but CONNECT not updated - how long to fix?

I'm so confused about my DEO effective date issue. I noticed my benefits were being calculated incorrectly because the effective date on my claim is wrong by almost 2 months! I finally got through to someone at DEO last Tuesday after calling for days, and the rep said they fixed it right on the spot. They told me my backpay would be processed soon and everything was corrected. But I just checked my CONNECT account again today and NOTHING has changed!!! The effective date is still showing the wrong date and my benefit amount is still calculated wrong. Has anyone experienced getting their effective date changed? How long does it actually take for these changes to show up in the system? I'm missing out on about $4,200 in backpay because of this error and bills are piling up fast. Getting anxious since I can't get through to anyone again...

ohh ive been there!! DEO is the worst with updating things. they told me they fixed my employment dates back in January and it took almost 4 WEEKS to actually show up in CONNECT. and thats after i called them like 20 times!! the system is completly broken.

4 WEEKS?! I can't wait that long... did they at least eventually pay you the correct amount with backpay?

Unfortunately, DEO system updates often take 7-10 business days to process completely, especially for effective date changes that affect monetary determinations. Here's what you should do: 1. Give it until at least next Monday (that's 5 business days from a Tuesday change) 2. Take screenshots of your current CONNECT page showing the incorrect date 3. Document the name of the rep who helped you if possible 4. If not updated by next Monday, you'll need to contact them again These effective date issues are common but fixable. The rep has to submit a special form to the monetary determination unit, which is separate from regular claims processing.

Thank you for this detailed info! I didn't realize it was a separate unit that handles these changes. I didn't get the rep's name (rookie mistake) but I'll definitely wait until Monday and take screenshots in the meantime.

My cousin had something similar with her claim last month. The effective date was wrong and she was missing like 6 weeks of payments. She said they told her it was fixed but nothing changed for almost 2 weeks. Then suddenly one day all the backpay showed up at once without the website ever showing the date was updated! Maybe check your payment history section too not just the claim details.

That's interesting! I'll definitely check the payment history section too. Did she have to do anything else to get it resolved or did it just magically appear after the 2 weeks?

I went through exactly this in February. The phone agent who "fixed" my effective date actually didn't complete all the steps properly. Their system requires them to submit the change, then a supervisor has to approve it, THEN it gets sent to the monetary determination team. After waiting 2 weeks with no change, I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get connected to a DEO agent without waiting on hold for hours. They have this video demo: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj The second agent I spoke with checked and saw the first agent never completed the process properly. They fixed it right then, and my effective date was updated 3 days later with all my backpay.

Did claimyr actually work? I tried calling DEO like 57 times yesterday and either got busy signal or it hung up on me after 2 minutes. so frustrating!!!

Yes, it worked great for me. Connected to an agent in about 10 minutes. Worth it to not spend all day hitting redial.

The DEO SUCKS at communication!!! The reps tell you something is fixed when ACTUALLY they just submitted a request that has to go through like 5 different people. My effective date change took 17 days to show up in CONNECT last year and no one ever told me what was happening. I just kept checking every day like a crazy person. The system is DESIGNED to make us give up!!

This is exactly right. I worked as a temp at DEO during the pandemic and there's a huge difference between what agents CAN do themselves vs what they have to submit requests for. Effective date changes ALWAYS require supervisor approval and then monetary reprocessing. Agents should tell people this but many don't.

my sister had her effective date wrong too and the DEO never fixed it!! she just had to file an appeal and it was a whole big thing..

Appeals are a different process than effective date corrections. If an effective date change request is denied, then yes, you'd need to appeal. But if an agent already agreed to change it (as in OP's case), it's just a matter of waiting for the processing to complete.

Update: It's been 8 days now and still no change to my effective date in CONNECT. I'm going to try calling again tomorrow morning. This is so frustrating - I feel like they're just hoping I'll give up on getting my backpay.

Don't give up! Keep detailed notes of every conversation - date, time, rep name if possible, and what they tell you. If you have to escalate later, this documentation will be crucial.

SUCCESS!!! After 12 days, my CONNECT account finally updated this morning! The effective date is now correct and my monetary determination increased. All the missing weeks are now showing in my payment history as "processed" but not paid yet. The rep I spoke to yesterday said payments should hit my account within 48 hours. Thanks everyone for your help and advice!

Great news! This is exactly how the process is supposed to work. The "processed" status means the payments are queued in the system and should be released soon. Glad it worked out!
