DEO backdate request stuck for months - need contact info!

I'm at my wits end trying to get my DEO claim backdated!! I filed a claim in February 2025 but I was actually laid off back in November 2024. I called the DEO hotline in early March and spoke with an agent who said they'd submit a request to backdate my claim to November when I first lost my job. They told me it would take "2-3 weeks to process" but here we are 3 MONTHS LATER and my claim is still not backdated! I've tried calling multiple times but keep getting the "high call volume" message and disconnected. I've sent messages through CONNECT and nothing. Does anyone have any direct email addresses or phone numbers for DEO supervisors who can actually help? I'm missing out on over $5,800 in benefits that I'm eligible for and my savings are almost gone. Any help would be appreciated!

Backdating requests are taking forever right now. I waited almost 10 weeks for mine to get processed. The regular DEO agents can't do anything to speed it up once the request is submitted - it has to go through their "special processing unit" which is severely backlogged. Your best bet is to try to reach a supervisor or manager who can escalate your case. Try emailing Reemployment.Assistance@deo.myflorida.com with "URGENT: Backdate Request Pending 90+ Days" in the subject line. Include your claimant ID, the date you submitted the backdate request, and the dates you're requesting to backdate to. Be super specific and professional.

Thank you! I'll definitely try that email. Did you include any specific documentation when you emailed them? I have termination paperwork from my employer dated November 15th 2024 that proves when I lost my job.

It's ridiculous! Have you tried anything that's worked? I'm starting to feel like they're just hoping we'll give up and go away.

The backdate issue is definitely frustrating but there's a process to get it resolved. First, you need to understand that backdate requests go into a separate queue from regular claims processing. Here's what you need to do: 1. Submit a new message through CONNECT specifically using the category "Claim Date Issues" (not general questions) 2. Call DEO first thing in the morning (7:30am) when their system resets the call queue - that's your best chance of getting through 3. If you've already waited over 8 weeks, you qualify for an escalation. Ask specifically for a "supervisor escalation for backdate review" 4. Make sure all your work search requirements are being met for both current weeks AND the weeks you're trying to backdate to - they'll check this before approving I worked as a claims assistant previously (not for DEO but another state) and the backdate requests were always the most time-consuming because they require manual review of eligibility for each backdated week. Be persistent but polite.

This is super helpful, thank you! I didn't realize there was a specific category for claim date issues in CONNECT - I've been using the general questions category. And I definitely didn't know about the 7:30am reset time. I'll try calling then tomorrow morning. I've been documenting my job searches even for the backdated period so hopefully that helps my case.

backdating is the WORST!!! took me 4 months to get mine fixed and i only got it fixed because i went to my state representative's office and had them contact DEO directly. might be worth a try if nothing else works. the regular DEO people just kept telling me "it's processing" for MONTHS.

This is actually really good advice. State representatives can often cut through red tape much faster than we can as individuals. Their constituent services staff deal with DEO issues all the time. Just google "[your county] Florida state representative" and you'll find contact info for your district rep.

After trying to get through to DEO for weeks about my backdate request, I finally used Claimyr.com and got connected to a DEO agent in about 15 minutes. The service basically calls DEO for you and holds your place in line, then calls you when they have an agent on the line. They have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj The agent I spoke with was able to see my backdate request in the system and confirmed it was still pending, but she added notes to my file about how long I'd been waiting and flagged it for expedited review. Got an email 3 days later saying my backdate was approved. Might be worth trying if you can't get through on your own.

It's definitely legit - they've been around for a few years now. They don't actually access your DEO account or anything like that. They just connect you with a live DEO agent so you can handle the conversation yourself. I was skeptical too but was desperate after weeks of trying to get through.

I had a backdate request pending for almost 5 months!!! The thing that finally worked was filing an official appeal. Even though there's technically no "determination" to appeal yet, filing an appeal forces them to review your case. Go to your CONNECT account, click on "Determination, Pending Issues and Decision Summary" and look for anything related to your initial claim date. There should be something there even if it's just showing your initial filing date. File an appeal on that item explaining that you requested a backdate X months ago and it's still not processed. They have to respond to appeals within 30 days by law. They backdated my claim within 2 weeks of filing the appeal and I got all my back benefits. The system is ridiculous but there are ways to make it work if you're persistent.

That's a really interesting approach! I never would have thought to file an appeal for something that hasn't been determined yet. I'm going to try the other suggestions first (early morning call, specific CONNECT message category, and the email address), but if those don't work within a week I'll definitely try the appeal route. Thank you!

anyone know if we get interest on our backpay when they take forever????? cuz they should be paying us extra for all this stress!!

Unfortunately, no. DEO doesn't pay interest on delayed unemployment benefits. It's definitely frustrating, but the best approach is to focus on getting the backdating approved first, then worry about getting paid. They won't compensate you for the delay itself.

Just to follow up on my earlier comment - make sure when you're contacting DEO about backdating, you're clear about WHY you need the backdate. Valid reasons include: 1. You were unable to file when first unemployed due to illness/hospitalization 2. You were given incorrect information by DEO staff about eligibility 3. You were unable to access CONNECT due to technical issues 4. You were unaware of potential eligibility (in limited circumstances) If you simply delayed filing without a qualifying reason, they may deny the backdate request regardless of how long you wait. Florida is pretty strict about this compared to other states. Document your reason thoroughly when communicating with them.

This is really important info - thank you! My situation was that my employer told me they were contesting my unemployment and that I shouldn't bother filing because I wouldn't qualify. Then in February I talked to a friend who works in HR who told me that was completely wrong and I should file immediately. So I guess my reason would be "given incorrect information" - though it was from my employer, not DEO. Hopefully that still counts!
