DEO keeps rejecting my effective date change request - 4 attempts and still waiting!

I'm at my wit's end with the DEO system! My employer reported my last day incorrectly (they put March 15, 2025 when I actually stopped working February 28, 2025), and now I'm missing two weeks of benefits. I've submitted the effective date change form FOUR SEPARATE TIMES over the past month, and my CONNECT account still shows the wrong date. No updates, no notifications, nothing! Customer service just tells me 'it's processing' every time I call. Has anyone dealt with this effective date nightmare before? How long does it seriously take for them to process a simple date correction? I'm losing hundreds of dollars because of their incompetence.

Unfortunately, the effective date change process can take 4-6 weeks under normal circumstances. Since you've submitted multiple requests, it might actually slow things down as each submission could reset your place in the queue. Make sure you've submitted form DEO-RFA, the Request for Reconsideration of Effective Date, rather than just messaging through your CONNECT account. Also double-check that you included documentation proving your last day worked (final pay stub, termination letter, etc). Without proper documentation, they'll reject it every time.

Seriously?? 4-6 WEEKS for a simple date correction?? That's insane. I did submit the DEO-RFA form and included my last pay stub showing 2/28. I'll check if I have anything else I could send as proof though. This whole system is ridiculous.

3 MONTHS?! I can't wait that long! Did you do anything special to get it fixed or just kept waiting?

The effective date change backlog is particularly bad right now because of all the seasonal employment claims being processed. Something that might help: call your local CareerSource office and ask if they can submit an internal ticket about your effective date change. They sometimes have direct connections to DEO staff that can push these requests through faster. I did this after waiting 5 weeks and my date was corrected within 3 business days after CareerSource intervened.

Thank you! I didn't even think about CareerSource. There's one about 20 minutes from me - I'll give them a call tomorrow morning.

This EXACT THING happened to me!!!! My employer put down April 3 when I was actually laid off March 22. I called DEO literally 47 times over 2 weeks and couldn't get through to ANYONE!!! System is completely broken. I finally got it fixed but it took FOREVERRR and I almost got evicted waiting for my backpay!!

@casual_user I finally got through by calling right when they opened at 7:30am exactly. But even then I was on hold for 2.5 hours!! Then the lady told me she couldn't help with effective date changes and transferred me to another department where I waited ANOTHER hour! It was a complete nightmare.

I've been seeing a lot of these effective date issues lately. If you're struggling to get through to DEO by phone, I'd recommend trying Claimyr (claimyr.com). It's a service that helps you skip the phone queue and get connected to a live agent. They have a video explaining how it works here: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj. I was skeptical at first, but I used it when my account was locked after ID.me verification and got through to someone in about 15 minutes instead of spending days calling.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but multiple submissions actually make the process take LONGER. Each new submission cancels the previous one and puts you at the back of the line again. The effective date change dept is separate from regular adjudication and they're chronically understaffed. Your best bet is to call and specifically ask for a 'status update on Request for Reconsideration of Effective Date' and get them to check if it's assigned to an examiner yet. If it is, don't submit anything else! Just wait. If it's not assigned yet (still in intake), then ask for a supervisor who can prioritize it since you're missing weeks of benefits.

Oh no...I had no idea each submission would restart the process. That's probably why it's taking so long. I'll try calling for a status update tomorrow. Is there a specific number I should call to reach the effective date department directly?

There's no direct number for the effective date department unfortunately. You have to go through the main DEO number (800-204-2418) and specifically request to be transferred to someone who handles effective date changes. Make sure to have your claimant ID and the exact dates you're trying to correct when you call. And be prepared for a long wait time - sometimes 2+ hours to get through these days.

Update: I finally got through to DEO this morning after trying the CareerSource suggestion. The rep confirmed all my previous submissions were still in the system (thankfully they weren't canceling each other out) but none had been assigned to an examiner yet. She flagged my case as 'financial hardship' which should move it up in priority. Fingers crossed I see some movement soon!

That's great news! The financial hardship flag can definitely speed things up. Once it gets assigned to an examiner, the actual correction should happen quickly (usually 2-3 business days). Then you'll need to claim those missing weeks right away before they expire. Good luck!
