DEO back-dated claims payment timeline? Waiting 3 weeks already!

So I was laid off from my restaurant job back in January but didn't file for unemployment until March 15th because I thought I'd find something quick (big mistake). When I finally applied, the DEO rep on the phone helped me back-date my claim to January 28th when I actually lost my job. That was about 3 weeks ago, and I've claimed all those back weeks through CONNECT, but haven't seen a single payment hit my account yet. The status for all weeks just says 'PROCESSED' but no money. How long does it typically take for back-dated claims to actually pay out? My account balance shows the full amount I'm eligible for ($6,250) but nothing's moving to my Way2Go card. Getting really worried since rent is coming due again...

Back-dated claims take longer than regular weekly claims because they go through additional verification. Mine took about 30-35 days from when I submitted the backdated weeks until I saw payment. The system has to verify you were eligible during all those previous weeks (no unreported income, actively seeking work, etc.). As long as your status says 'PROCESSED' and not 'PENDING ADJUDICATION' you should be okay - it's in the system and working its way through. Did you upload all your work search records for those backdated weeks? They won't pay without seeing those 5 activities per week.

Thanks for the info! Yes, I uploaded all my work search proof (5 per week) when I claimed each back week. I was super careful about that part. I guess I'll try to be patient for another week or so. Do you know if there's any way to check exactly where in the process my payments are? The CONNECT dashboard doesn't give me much detail.

they might be reviewing ur work search records. took them 6 wks to pay my backdated stuff last yr. its always slower than regular weeks

6 weeks?! Ugh, I can't wait that long. Bills are piling up fast. Did you do anything to speed it up or just wait it out?

There's actually an important distinction here. When you say the status shows as 'PROCESSED', is it 'PROCESSED - PENDING PAYMENT' or just 'PROCESSED'? They look similar but mean different things. If it's 'PROCESSED - PENDING PAYMENT' then the money should be released within 2-3 business days to your Way2Go card. If it's just 'PROCESSED', that means they've acknowledged the claim but it's still being reviewed. Also, January to March is crossing quarters, which adds extra verification steps because they need to check both quarters' wage data. That can add 1-2 weeks to the process. I recommend checking your DEO Determination Status page (not just the payment history) to see if there are any pending issues on your claim that might be causing the delay.

Just double-checked and it says 'PROCESSED' not 'PROCESSED - PENDING PAYMENT'. That's probably why nothing's happening yet. I didn't know about the quarter crossing issue - thanks for explaining that! When I go to Determination Status it shows 'No pending determinations found' - does that mean I'm in the clear?

Call them!! it's the only way to actually find out what's happening with backdated claims! i spent 3 months waiting for mine and turns out they were waiting on some document they never even told me about!!!! THE DEO NEVER TELLS YOU when somethings wrong or missing, you have to call and bug them

I've tried calling SO MANY TIMES but can never get through! Just busy signals or it hangs up on me after the automated menu. I've tried different times of day too. So frustrating.

I've been through this nightmare with backdated claims. The key is getting through to an actual claims specialist, not just the first-level phone reps. After weeks of failed attempts calling the regular DEO line, I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through. They have this system that holds your place in line and calls you back when an agent is available. I was super skeptical but their video demo convinced me: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj The moment I got to speak with an actual claims specialist, I found out my backdated payments were held up because of a quarterly wage review flag that needed manual approval. They fixed it while I was on the phone and my payments were released two days later. Without getting through to that specialist, I'd probably still be waiting.

is that service legit? sounds sketchy to pay someone just to make a phone call

I thought the same thing at first, but after wasting 3 weeks and countless hours trying to call myself, it was worth it to actually get my problem solved. You don't pay for the call - you pay for skipping the impossible phone queue. The DEO specialist I reached was super helpful once I actually got to talk to one.

This system is SO BROKEN!!! I had backdated claims from December to February and it took 7 ENTIRE WEEKS to get paid!!! Called 87 TIMES (yes I counted) and only got through TWICE, both times they just said "it's processing be patient" which is THEIR CODE for "we're doing nothing" because as soon as I filed a complaint with my state representative's office MAGICALLY my money appeared 3 days later!!! CONTACT YOUR STATE REP don't waste time with DEO phone lines!!

Quick update on timeframes since there's some confusion here. For standard backdated claims with no issues: 1. 2-3 weeks: Typical processing time (best case scenario) 2. 4-6 weeks: Common when crossing quarters or during busy periods 3. 6+ weeks: Usually indicates an unresolved issue The DEO's current processing time for backdated claims is longer than usual due to staffing shortages. If your claim says just 'PROCESSED' (not 'PROCESSED - PENDING PAYMENT') after 3 weeks, there's likely a review happening. The fact that your determination page shows no pending issues is actually a good sign. I do agree that speaking with a specialist is your best option at this point. Either try the Claimyr service someone mentioned, contact your state representative's office, or try calling right when they open at 7:30am Monday (usually least busy time).

This is really helpful, thank you! I think I'll try calling right at 7:30am Monday, and if that doesn't work, I might try that Claimyr service. I've already waited 3 weeks so I guess I'm in that middle timeframe category. Just wish CONNECT would show more details about where in the process things are stuck.

btw make sure ur claiming ur weeks while u wait! don't forget or you'll lose them

Good reminder! Yes, I've been claiming my current weeks on time every two weeks. At least the system lets me do that part without issues.

One last tip: When you do get through to DEO, specifically ask them to check if your claim has a 'quarterly wage review flag' or if it's in the 'monetary reconsideration queue.' Those are the two most common reasons backdated claims get delayed, and sometimes they won't volunteer this information unless you specifically ask. If either of those are the case, request that they expedite the review since you've already been waiting 3+ weeks.

Will do! I'll ask about both those specific things. Really appreciate all this help from everyone. I'll update here once I get through or if my payments finally start coming through.
