Anyone successfully get retroactive DEO benefits for March/April after changing claim effective date?
Hi everyone, I'm going crazy trying to figure out if I'm wasting my time. I was laid off in early March but didn't realize I could file for unemployment until May (I know, stupid). I submitted a request to modify my claim effective date to get those retroactive benefits for March and April - about $3,750 I desperately need. Has anyone actually gotten their claim date modified successfully and received retroactive payments? The DEO agent I talked to said it could take 4-8 weeks for processing but that feels like an eternity. I've already been waiting 3 weeks with no updates on CONNECT. Starting to worry this might be a lost cause. If you've been through this, how long did you wait? Did they approve your full backdated amount?

SAME BOAT! Waited 9 weeks for backdating when I requested to change my effective date from May to February. It's ridiculous how long they make us wait when we're obviously eligible!!! The system is DESIGNED to make people give up. Don't let them win. Keep calling and checking your CONNECT account daily. Mine eventually showed up without any notification.

•9 weeks?! That's insane. Did they at least give you the full amount for all the backdated weeks? I'm worried they'll only approve part of it or something.

•What form did you use? When I called they just took my info over the phone but didn't mention any specific form for backdating. Now I'm worried I did it wrong...

Florida DEO has a specific process for modifying claim effective dates. It's not as simple as just requesting it - they need to verify you were eligible during those previous weeks. Here's how it typically works: 1. Submit the request (which you've done) 2. Wait for a fact-finding questionnaire in your CONNECT inbox 3. Complete ALL work search requirements for those retroactive weeks 4. Wait for adjudication (this is the long part) 5. If approved, payments release all at once In my experience helping clients, the average wait time is 6-7 weeks from request to payment. Some get lucky and see it sooner, others wait longer. Make sure you check your CONNECT inbox daily for any requests for additional information, as missing those can restart your wait time.

•Thank you so much for breaking this down! I didn't realize I needed to complete work searches for the backdated weeks - do I need to enter those now or wait until they ask? And if they approve it, will those weeks just show up as payable all at once?

I was able to get my claim backdated from April to February this year, but it took forever. The worst part was trying to get through to DEO to check on the status. I kept getting disconnected or waiting on hold for hours with no answer. I finally tried using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to a rep. They have this service that gets you connected to a DEO agent without the long wait. I was skeptical but they actually got me through in about 20 minutes. The agent was able to tell me my backdating was approved but still processing. You can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj Two days after speaking with that agent, my backdated weeks appeared in my account as payable. Sometimes you just need to get someone to look at your specific case.

•That's really good to know! I've tried calling DEO three times this week and got disconnected every time. It's so frustrating. I'll check out that service if I don't see any movement in another week. Did they give you the full amount for all your backdated weeks?

my cousin works at deo (im staying with her rn) & she says theres a huge backlog of backdating requests. they prioritize ppl who call multiple times so u gotta be annoying about it lol. also do u have any pending issues on ur account? those have to be cleared first

•This is incorrect information. DEO does not prioritize claims based on call frequency - they process them in order received with some exceptions for hardship cases. Calling repeatedly actually takes agents away from processing claims. The backlog information is accurate though.

I requested backdating in January to include December weeks. It took exactly 5 weeks and 2 days from my request until the money appeared in my account. One thing that might help - I noticed my claim sat in adjudication for weeks, but the day after I uploaded all my work search records for those backdated weeks (even though they hadn't asked for them yet), my claim was approved within 48 hours. Might be coincidence, but worth trying! Make sure you have good documentation for why you didn't apply earlier. They're getting stricter about that from what I've heard. Valid reasons include not knowing you were eligible, website technical issues, or medical problems that prevented filing.

•That's smart to upload the work searches proactively. Where exactly did you upload them? Under the "Work Search Record" section for each week? And I definitely have documentation - I honestly had no idea I qualified since I was a contractor and the rules were confusing.

I'm confused about something - are you trying to backdate a regular unemployment claim or PUA? Because PUA doesn't exist anymore right? Sorry I'm not being helpful just trying to understand if this is even possible in 2025?

•You're confusing two different things. The OP is talking about a regular Reemployment Assistance claim with a modified effective date (backdating), which is absolutely still available in 2025. This has nothing to do with PUA, which was a pandemic program that ended years ago. Regular DEO claims can still be backdated if you have good cause for not filing when you became unemployed. The effective date modification process remains a standard part of Florida's unemployment system.

•That's amazing news!! Congrats! Did they send you any notification or did you just happen to check and see it? I'm checking mine obsessively at this point.

Based on recent patterns, here's what you should expect with your backdating request: 1. Initial waiting period: 2-3 weeks (you're already here) 2. Fact-finding phase: You'll likely receive questions in your CONNECT inbox about why you didn't file earlier. Respond promptly! 3. Adjudication phase: 3-5 weeks where they review your case 4. Decision and payment: If approved, weeks appear as payable all at once Total timeline: 5-9 weeks in most cases Pro tip: While waiting, go ahead and complete the work search requirements for those backdated weeks (5 job contacts per week). You can enter them now using the Work Search Record section for each claimed week. Having this ready will speed up your payment once approved.

•Thank you for this detailed timeline! I'll start working on those job search records tonight. Hoping I'm one of the faster cases since my reason for late filing is pretty straightforward.
