Anyone actually succeed with Florida DEO retroactive payment claim modification form?
I lost my job back in January but didn't realize I could file for unemployment until March (totally my fault - was trying to make it on savings). I filed my initial claim in March 2025, but now I'm trying to get those missing January/February weeks. My claim is active and I'm receiving benefits now, but I submitted the 'modify claim filing effective date' form through CONNECT about 3 weeks ago and haven't heard anything. The status just shows 'pending' with no additional info. Has anyone successfully gotten their claim backdated with this form? If so, how long did it take? Did you have to do anything besides submit the form through CONNECT? My rent is coming due and those retroactive payments would literally save me from eviction right now.

Yes, I actually got mine approved last month! I was in a similar situation - filed in February but needed January weeks. The process took exactly 32 days from submission to approval. The key is documentation - I uploaded a termination letter showing my January layoff date and wrote a clear explanation of why I didn't file immediately (was told incorrectly by HR that I wouldn't qualify). The form sits in 'pending' the entire time with no updates. One day I just logged in and saw the determination letter in my inbox saying it was approved, and the weeks appeared for me to claim the next day.

•Wow, that gives me hope! Did you just upload the documentation when you submitted the form or did you have to call them? I didn't attach anything because there wasn't a clear place to upload docs when filling out the form in CONNECT.

I submitted that form TWICE and nothing happened. Been waiting 7 weeks on the first one and 3 weeks on the second!!! DEO is a JOKE. They just ignore these forms until you can get an actual person on the phone. Good luck with that - I've called 48 times in the past month and either get disconnected or told the queue is full. Has anyone found a way to actually talk to a human being at DEO???

•After weeks of trying to reach someone at DEO with no luck, I used Claimyr to get through to an agent (claimyr.com). It bypasses the phone tree and puts you in line to speak with a DEO rep. There's a video demo of how it works: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj. I was skeptical but it actually worked - got connected to someone who could see my backdating request was stuck because they needed additional info about my reason for late filing. Got it resolved in one call after weeks of frustration.

The backdate request form requires a 'good cause' reason for not filing on time. What reason did you put? This significantly affects approval chances. Per DEO guidelines, acceptable reasons include: - Hospitalization/serious illness - Death in immediate family - Natural disaster - Employer provided incorrect info about eligibility - DEO system/technical issues Vague reasons like 'didn't know I could file' are frequently denied. Also, they're currently processing these requests in about 4-6 weeks due to backlogs, so 3 weeks is still within normal timeframe.

•I put that I thought I needed to exhaust my severance first before applying (which my employer told me). Do you think that's a good enough reason? Getting worried now...

•Thanks! Yes, I've been claiming my regular weeks. Did you get any notification when they approved it or did the money just appear?

My cousin works at DEO and says they're prioritizing the backdate requests based on the reason and how far back you're trying to go. Those with documented good cause (like told wrong info by employer) and requesting 4 weeks or less get processed faster. Might be worth trying to reach someone by phone to make sure your case doesn't need additional documentation.

•This is totally incorrect. I work at CareerSource and have direct contact with DEO. They process backdating requests in the order received, not by priority or reason. Please don't spread misinformation.

Quick update to my earlier comment - I forgot to mention that after submitting the form, I did get a fact-finding question in my CONNECT inbox about a week later asking for more details about why I didn't file earlier. Make sure you're checking your inbox regularly and responding to any fact-finding requests within 48 hours or your request could be denied automatically.

•Oh! I've been checking my messages every few days but not daily. I'll make sure to log in more frequently. Thank you for the tip!

I had the same issue last year. After waiting 5 weeks with no response, I reached out to my state representative's office. Their constituent services contacted DEO on my behalf, and my request was processed within 3 days after that. Don't underestimate how effective this approach can be when you're stuck in bureaucratic limbo.

•This is actually great advice. My friend did this too and it worked. Anyone have a link for how to find your Florida rep's contact info?

Important detail: Make sure your backdate request doesn't cross quarters. If you're trying to backdate from March to January, that crosses from Q1 to Q4 of the previous year, which can trigger a wage re-calculation and potentially complicate or delay your request. This is especially common with January filing effective dates. Also, if your reason was 'employer told me to wait until severance ended,' make sure to specifically state that your employer incorrectly informed you about eligibility rules, as Florida allows you to receive unemployment while receiving severance in most cases.

•Thank you for this detailed explanation! My severance actually ended in February, but my employer definitely told me I couldn't apply until it ran out. I'll call DEO to make sure they understand this was incorrect information from my employer.

After dealing with the backdate nightmare myself, I'd recommend trying to speak directly with a DEO agent about your request. When I finally got through using Claimyr, the agent told me they could see my request was just sitting there without being assigned to an adjudicator. She escalated it while I was on the phone, and it was processed within a week. Sometimes these forms just need a little nudge from the inside.

•How exactly does Claimyr work? Do they just keep calling for you until they get through?
