DEO only paid one week from December - what happened to my Sep-Nov backpay?

I'm so confused and frustrated with my unemployment claim. I filed on September 8th, 2024 and have been diligently claiming weeks since then. I've called DEO practically every day but always get the automated message or disconnected before talking to anyone. After MONTHS of waiting with zero income, they finally sent a payment on January 22nd, 2025 - but it was only for ONE WEEK (December 1st week). The system says to come back on February 4th to claim my next weeks. But what about all the weeks I claimed from September through November??? Shouldn't I be getting backpay for those too? I've claimed every single week properly since filing. Is anyone else experiencing this? How do I get them to pay all my back weeks that I'm eligible for?

This actually happens more often than you'd think. DEO processes claims in batches, and sometimes they'll process recent weeks before going back to process earlier weeks. The good news is that if you've been found eligible and they paid one week, you should eventually receive payment for all eligible weeks you've claimed properly. But you need to check if all those weeks are showing as 'payable' or if there's any pending issues on your account that might be holding up the earlier payments.

Thanks for the reply! How do I check if the weeks are showing as 'payable'? When I log into CONNECT, it just shows the one payment from December. There's no obvious place showing status for the September-November weeks. I don't see any pending issues listed anywhere either.

i had the EXACT same thing happen to me!!! filed in august, got paid ONE random week from november, then nothing for months. turns out i had an unresolved issue from my employer that needed to be addressed. did u check the 'determination status' page? it might show pending issues there that aren't visible on the main page

OMG thank you for mentioning that! I just checked the determination status page and there's something about 'pending adjudication' for 'separation issue' that I never noticed before. But how do I resolve it if I can't reach anyone at DEO??

What you're experiencing is called a 'partial approval' - when they process one week but have other weeks on hold for various reasons. Here's what you need to do: 1. Go to your CONNECT account and click on 'Determination, Pending Issue and Decision Summary' under the Determination Status section 2. Look for any items marked as 'pending' or 'adjudication' 3. Check your Inbox in CONNECT for any fact-finding questionnaires they might have sent 4. If you see any pending adjudication issues, you NEED to speak with a claims specialist to resolve them The system is incredibly frustrating because they'll often process one test week to see if payment works, then hold the rest until all issues are resolved. But you should definitely get backpay once resolved, as long as you claimed all weeks properly.

Thank you for the detailed steps! I found the pending adjudication for a separation issue. There's nothing in my inbox though, and I've checked it regularly. Sounds like I absolutely need to speak with someone, but that's exactly my problem - I can't get through on the phone no matter how many times I call!

When I had this exact problem last year, I spent WEEKS trying to get through on the phone with absolutely no luck. Then someone told me about Claimyr - it's a service that helps you get through to a DEO agent without waiting for hours. I was skeptical but desperate, so I tried it and got through to a live agent in about 20 minutes. The agent was able to look at my file and release all my pending payments once I explained the situation. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj and their website is claimyr.com - seriously saved me when I was about to give up entirely on getting my backpay.

I've never heard of this service before. Did it actually work for getting your backpay released? I'm getting desperate at this point since I've been trying to reach someone for over 4 months.

Yes, it absolutely worked for me. Once I actually got through to a live person at DEO, they were able to see all my pending issues and address them right there on the phone. The agent told me that separation issues (like what you have) need manual review, which is why some of your weeks are stuck while others processed. It's worth trying because those weeks won't automatically release until someone reviews your case.

dont waste ur $ on extra services. just keep calling DEO the normal way. u'll get thru eventually. i had to wait 5 months for my backpay but they finaly paid it all at once. the system is slow but it works.

I disagree based on personal experience. I spent 3 months calling 50+ times a day and couldn't get through. There's a difference between being patient and letting DEO take advantage of you. If separation issues aren't resolved, they can eventually deny all those weeks. I've seen people wait 6+ months only to get denied because they never got through to fix simple issues. Time value of money matters.

Have you tried reaching out to your state representative's office? I was stuck in a similar situation and sent an email to my local rep. Their office contacted DEO on my behalf and things started moving within a week. Worth a shot!

That's a really good idea, I hadn't thought of that! I'll look up my representative's contact info right now. Did you just explain your situation in an email to them?

Yep! I sent them an email with my full name, the last 4 digits of my SSN, claimant ID #, and a brief explanation of my situation - specifically mentioned how long I'd been waiting and that I couldn't get through to DEO. They had me fill out an authorization form so they could inquire on my behalf, and it definitely sped things up.

Just to be clear about your specific situation - if you have a 'separation issue' pending adjudication, it means DEO is determining whether you're eligible based on how your employment ended. Your employer probably contested your unemployment claim or there's conflicting information they need to resolve. This is actually good news in a way, because once resolved in your favor, you should receive ALL backpay for all weeks you properly claimed. But it won't resolve itself - you absolutely need to speak with someone. In the meantime, keep claiming your weeks as scheduled (Feb 4th) so you don't miss any future payments. The worst thing would be to miss claiming future weeks while you're trying to resolve the past ones.

Thank you for explaining that! I was laid off due to a business slowdown, so I'm not sure why my employer would contest it, but at least knowing what the issue actually is helps me understand what's happening. And yes, I'll definitely keep claiming future weeks while I try to get this resolved.

DEO IS A COMPLETE DISASTER!!!! They did the SAME THING to me and thousands of others. They deliberately make it impossible to reach them so people eventually give up. I had to file a complaint with the Inspector General's office before I got my backpay from 2024. THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN BY DESIGN!!!!

While the frustration is understandable, filing a complaint with the Inspector General is actually a last resort option. Before that, try the state representative route mentioned above, or calling during off-peak hours (right when they open or in the last hour before closing). The system is definitely overloaded, but most issues can be resolved with persistence.

UPDATE: I tried both suggestions! Called my state representative's office AND used Claimyr to get through to DEO. Figured I'd attack this from both angles. Got through to DEO first - the agent confirmed I have a separation issue where my employer didn't respond to their inquiry about my layoff. The agent sent a follow-up request to my employer and escalated my case. She said once that's resolved (hopefully within 2 weeks), all my eligible back weeks should process for payment! Thank you all for the help - will update again when/if I get my backpay!
