DEO fact finding request email without specifying needed info - due 9/12/24

I'm freaking out a little. Got an email from DEO this morning saying they need additional info for 'fact finding' and it's due by 9/12/24. The problem is they didn't specify WHAT information they actually need! The email just says 'Fact finding' and gives the due date. I logged into CONNECT but there's nothing showing under my inbox or pending issues that explains what they're looking for. Has this happened to anyone else? I don't want my claim to get denied because I missed submitting something, but how am I supposed to know what to send? Should I just upload all my employment records or is there a specific form I need to complete?

This is actually pretty common with DEO. Log into your CONNECT account and check the 'Fact Finding' section under the left menu. There should be a questionnaire there that needs to be completed. Sometimes the emails don't specify what they need, but the actual questions will be in your CONNECT portal. If you don't see anything there, check the 'Determinations/Pending Issues' section too.

I looked under both sections and don't see anything! That's why I'm so confused. There's no questionnaire or pending issue listed in my account at all, just the email saying something is due. Should I call them?

SAME EXACT THING happened to me last month!! The email says one thing but when u login theres NOTHING there!! So frustrating!! I ended up having to upload my employment records and ID docs AGAIN even tho I already did that when I first filed. The DEO system is such a mess!!! 😡

Did you just guess what to upload or did you eventually find out what they wanted? I hate when govt systems don't work right

I literally just uploaded EVERYTHING I could think of - paystubs, W2, separation letter from work, drivers license, SS card. Figured better safe than sorry! But it took them 3 more weeks to process after that. So annoying.

Try checking if there's a fact finding notice under the "Determination, Pending Issue and Decision Summary" page. Sometimes it doesn't show up in your inbox but it's still in the system. Also, if you click on "Claim and Payment Status" and then scroll down to the bottom of that page, you might see pending issues that need to be resolved. DEO's emails are often triggered automatically but the actual questionnaire might take a day or two to appear in the system.

Thanks for the tip. I checked both those places but still nothing. It's been almost 24 hours since I got the email. Should I just keep checking or is there something else I should do?

they do this alot its ussually about ur employment history or why u left ur job. sometimes the questions dont appear for like 2-3 days after u get the email. so annoying! just keep checking ur connect accnt everyday. if u dont see anything by friday then start worrying lol

That makes me feel a little better that it might still show up. But Friday would only give me a week before the deadline... why do they make this so stressful?!

I had this exact issue back in June. The fact finding questions weren't showing up anywhere in my CONNECT account, but I needed to resolve it quickly because I was already 5 weeks without payment. I tried calling DEO directly but kept getting busy signals and disconnects for days. I finally used Claimyr.com to get through to a live agent (they have this system that calls DEO for you and connects you when they get through). The agent explained that sometimes there's a delay between when the email goes out and when the fact finding questions actually appear in the system. In my case, it was related to my previous employer contesting my unemployment eligibility. You can check out their quick video demo at https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj to see how it works. Saved me a ton of time and the agent was able to tell me exactly what information they needed.

Is Claimyr legit? I've been hesitant to try it, but I've spent HOURS trying to get through to DEO with no luck...

Yes, it's legit. I was skeptical too but I was desperate after trying for a week to get through on my own. They basically just automate the calling process and connect you once they get through. You still talk directly to DEO representatives. The video demo shows exactly how it works.

Whatever u do DONT IGNORE IT!!!! I had a friend who thought the email was a mistake since nothing showed up in CONNECT, and they ended up DENYING his benefits and he had to go through the whole appeal process which took like 2 months!!!!

That's exactly what I'm worried about! I definitely don't want to go through an appeal.

One more suggestion - check if you have any unresolved wage issues. Sometimes the fact finding is related to wages that don't match what your employer reported, but it doesn't show up clearly in the system. Look under the "Monetary Status" section and see if there are any discrepancies or issues listed there. If you still don't see anything by tomorrow, I'd recommend either calling DEO directly (though getting through is difficult) or sending a message through the CONNECT portal asking for clarification about the fact finding request. Keep in mind that you have until 9/12, so while it's stressful, you still have some time to figure this out. The worst case scenario is that you upload all possible documentation proactively (proof of employment, separation reason, identity documents) to cover your bases.

Thank you! I just checked Monetary Status and everything looks normal there. I think I'm going to try calling them tomorrow, and if I can't get through I'll try that Claimyr service someone mentioned. I'll update here once I figure out what's going on in case it helps someone else.

I had something similar happen last year and turned out the fact finding was about my work search efforts. Had to list all the places I applied to even tho I thought I already did that in my weekly claims. The DEO is so disorganized lol

UPDATE: For anyone who finds this thread later - the most common fact finding requests from DEO are for: 1. Employment verification (requiring paystubs, W2s, or employment letters) 2. Separation reason verification (requiring documentation about why you left your job) 3. Work search verification (requiring details about your job search activities) 4. Identity verification (requiring ID documents) 5. Availability for work verification (questioning if you're able and available to work) If you can't see the specific questions in CONNECT, the safest approach is to proactively upload documentation for each of these categories through the document upload section. Be sure to clearly label each document so the claims examiner knows what they're looking at. Also, be aware that some email notifications come from DoNotReply@deo.myflorida.com while others might come from a different DEO address. Always verify the sender is legitimate before responding to requests.

This is super helpful, thank you! I'll start gathering all these documents. The email did come from the DoNotReply address, so at least I know it's legitimate. I'll keep trying to reach someone for specifics, but this gives me somewhere to start.

UPDATE: I finally got through to DEO this morning! Turns out the fact finding was about my previous employer contesting my claim. The questions weren't showing up in CONNECT because of a system glitch. The rep manually added them to my account, and now I can see and respond to the questions. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions!

Great news! Glad you got it resolved. Make sure you answer those questions thoroughly and provide any supporting documentation you might have about your separation. When an employer contests a claim, DEO looks very closely at the details.
