DEO requested 2nd quarter claim form unexpectedly - normal or potential fraud?
I'm so confused right now. I've been receiving regular unemployment benefits for about 6 weeks, and everything was going fine with my bi-weekly claims. Yesterday I got an email notification to log into CONNECT, and there's a message saying I need to complete a '2nd quarter claim form' within 7 days or my benefits might be affected. I've never had to do this before! The timing seems weird since I just did my regular claim last week. The form is asking for basically the same info I already provided in my initial application. Is this normal? Has anyone else been asked to fill this out? I'm worried it might be some kind of glitch or even fraud attempt. Should I call DEO to verify before I submit anything?

Yes, this is actually normal! The DEO system automatically generates a new quarterly application when your benefit year crosses into a new calendar quarter. It's basically to verify that your employment situation hasn't changed and to recalculate your benefit amount based on more recent wage history. I had to do this back in January when we crossed from Q4 2024 to Q1 2025. Just fill it out honestly - it should pre-populate with most of your information from your initial claim.

•Oh thank goodness! I was really worried something was wrong. So I just need to review all the info and submit it? Will my payments stop while they process this?

its probly legit but make SURE ur actually on the real CONNECT site!!! lots of scammers out there sending fake emails that look real. always go to the real florida deo website urself instead of clicking email links

•Good point! I actually did go directly to the CONNECT site by typing in the URL myself, and the message was in my inbox there. So I think it's legitimate, but still strange timing!

This is called a "Monetary Redetermination" and it's a standard procedure when your claim crosses into a new quarter. The system checks if you earned any wages during your most recently completed quarter that could potentially increase your weekly benefit amount (WBA). Make sure you report any employment/wages you had during that period accurately. If you've remained fully unemployed, just verify all the pre-populated information is correct and submit. Your payments shouldn't stop, but there might be a slight delay (1-3 days) for the next payment while they process this update. If the system finds additional wages that could increase your benefit amount, you'll receive a monetary redetermination notice explaining any changes.

•Thank you so much for explaining! That makes total sense now. I'll go ahead and complete it today. Really appreciate the detailed info - DEO doesn't exactly make these processes clear on their site.

I just got the same thing and freaked out too!!! Thought maybe my claim was flagged or something. Glad I'm not the only one. Gonna fill mine out tonight.

•Same here! Got the notification yesterday. Wonder if they're doing a batch of these all at once for the new quarter starting.

The DEO system is a NIGHTMARE. They make everything so complicated and never explain what's happening. I've been dealing with them for months and every time I think things are going smoothly, they throw some new form or requirement at me. And good luck getting anyone on the phone to explain it! I've spent HOURS getting busy signals or being disconnected. The whole system seems designed to make people give up on getting the benefits they deserve!

•I was having the same problem getting through to DEO about my quarterly form last month! After days of trying, I finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to a DEO agent within 30 minutes. They have a demo video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj. Totally worth it for getting my questions answered about the quarterly form when the system was giving me errors. The agent was able to see that some of my wages weren't being calculated correctly.

Quick update for everyone: If you're seeing this 2nd quarter claim form request, be aware that you only have 7 calendar days (not business days) to complete it. After submission, your claim status may temporarily show as "Pending" for 24-48 hours while the system processes the update. Also, double-check your work search requirements section during this process - sometimes the system resets your work search exemption status during quarterly updates. If you had an exemption before (like standby status with an employer), verify it carried over correctly.

•Thanks for the additional info! I just submitted mine and noticed my claim status changed to "Pending" right away. Good to know that's normal. I'll check my work search requirements too - I wasn't exempt before but good to make sure nothing changed.

wait is this different from the regular biweekly claim?? i'm confused now

•Yes, it's different. The biweekly claims are to certify you're still unemployed and looking for work every two weeks. This quarterly form is more like a mini-application that happens every 3 months to update your wage information and eligibility. You still need to do your regular biweekly claims in addition to this quarterly form when it appears.

WARNING: Be super careful if you worked AT ALL during your claim period before filling this out. My friend filled out his quarterly form last month and accidentally underreported some gig work he did. They flagged his entire claim for fraud investigation and his payments have been on hold for 3 weeks now!

•Oh no! That's scary. I did some freelance work last month that I reported on my weekly claims. Should I attach documentation to this quarterly form too or just list the income again?

•@profile3 - If you already reported the freelance work on your weekly claims, you should still include it on the quarterly form if it falls within the quarter being reviewed. The system should already have record of it, but it's always better to be consistent. You don't need to attach documentation unless specifically requested, but keep those records for at least a year in case they do an audit later.

UPDATE: Just wanted to let everyone know I successfully submitted my quarterly form yesterday, and this morning my claim status is back to Active! No interruption to my payments so far. The whole process was much easier than I feared. Thanks everyone for the reassurance and helpful tips!
