6+ weeks in DEO adjudication with no update - mortgage payment due next week

I'm completely stressed out right now. My DEO claim has been stuck in adjudication for over 6 weeks with ZERO movement or explanation. My CONNECT account just shows 'pending adjudication' on each week, but there's nothing explaining what issue they're actually reviewing. I've called the DEO hotline at least 20 times and either get disconnected or told 'a specialist will call you back' (spoiler: they never do). My savings are almost gone, and I have a mortgage payment due next week that I can't miss. Does anyone know if there's a way to actually reach a human being who can tell me what's happening with my claim? Is 6+ weeks normal for adjudication? I worked in hospitality management for 8 years before being laid off when our hotel changed ownership, so I KNOW I qualify. This waiting game is driving me insane.

Unfortunately 6+ weeks in adjudication is pretty common with DEO right now. I was stuck in adjudication for almost 9 weeks before mine finally got resolved. The issue for me was that my former employer contested my claim (even though I was clearly laid off), and DEO has to investigate when that happens. When you log into CONNECT, click on the 'Determination, Pending Issues and Decision Summary' link - does it show anything specific there?

Thanks for responding. I checked that section and it shows 'separation issue - adjudication' with today's date as the 'detection date' even though this has been going on for weeks. So frustrating. Did you just wait it out or did something finally break the logjam for you?

I've tried early morning, mid-day, afternoon... doesn't seem to matter. Always the same results - busy signals or being put on hold only to get disconnected 20+ minutes later.

I went through this exact situation last month. What worked for me was using Claimyr to get through to a DEO agent. Their service connects you directly to a DEO representative without having to deal with the busy signals and disconnects. I was skeptical at first, but after two months of failing to reach DEO on my own, I gave it a try and got through to an agent in about 25 minutes. The agent was able to see that my adjudication was actually complete but hadn't been properly updated in the system. You can check them out at claimyr.com - there's a video demo at https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj that shows how it works. Honestly, it was worth it just to finally get answers.

I second this. I was in adjudication for 7 weeks and couldn't get anyone on the phone. After trying literally EVERYTHING ELSE, I used Claimyr and got through to a DEO agent who actually helped. Found out my employer had submitted some info incorrectly and the agent was able to override it right then. My payments started processing 2 days later.

Is there any rhyme or reason to how DEO prioritizes these claims??? My neighbor filed 3 weeks after me and already got approved while I'm still waiting. It makes no sense!

The DEO claims to process them in order, but in reality, they prioritize based on the complexity of the case and staffing. Simple claims with no employer disputes move quickly. If your former employer contested the claim (which happens automatically with many large companies), it gets flagged for manual review by an adjudicator. And there's a MASSIVE backlog of those cases. The system is completely broken and understaffed. I know because my sister works at CareerSource and hears about this every day.

I WAS STUCK IN ADJUDICATION FOR 10 WEEKS!!! The DEO is a JOKE. They don't care if you lose your house or can't feed your kids. And don't even bother with that useless "contact us" form on CONNECT. I submitted THREE messages and never got ANY response. This system is DESIGNED to discourage people from collecting benefits we EARNED through our work.

This is what I'm afraid of... I can probably make it another 2 weeks before I'm completely broke. Did you ever get your situation resolved?

Yeah I finally got approved after I reached a supervisor who actually looked at my claim. All of a sudden they processed 10 weeks of payments at once with ZERO explanation for the delay. Still makes my blood boil thinking about it.

@original poster - Based on what you're describing, it sounds like your employer may be contesting your claim. This is really common in the hospitality industry. When you mentioned "separation issue - adjudication," that confirms it. What typically happens is DEO sends a questionnaire to both you and your employer, and then an adjudicator compares the responses. Here's what I'd recommend: 1. Call your former employer's HR department and ask if they contested your unemployment claim 2. Make sure you've submitted your work search requirements for each week (5 activities per week) so when this is resolved, you'll get paid for all weeks 3. Try to speak with a DEO agent who can actually see notes on your claim I know this is extremely stressful, but your claim hasn't been denied yet, so that's actually a good sign. It's just stuck in bureaucratic limbo.

Thank you for the detailed explanation. I just called my former employer's HR department, and they said they did NOT contest my claim and actually confirmed they submitted that I was laid off due to ownership change. So now I'm even more confused about why this is taking so long. I've definitely been submitting my work search activities religiously every week. This is so frustrating.

After reading all the comments, I definitely think you need to speak with an actual DEO adjudicator. If your employer isn't contesting, there might be another issue flagging your claim. Sometimes it's something simple like a date mismatch or missing document that's holding everything up. When I finally got through to DEO after using Claimyr, I found out my issue was that I had a previous claim from 2 years ago that had somehow triggered a "double-dipping" flag, even though that claim had been closed for years. The agent was able to clear it immediately once I actually spoke with someone. Sometimes these issues are extremely simple to fix but impossible to resolve without talking to a real person with authority.

I think you're right - there must be something specific holding it up. I'm going to try Claimyr tomorrow morning. At this point, I just need to know what's happening even if they can't fix it immediately. The silence and uncertainty is almost worse than a denial would be. I'll update here if I have any success. Thank you everyone for the advice and commiseration.

One other thing to try while you're waiting - contact your state representative's office. Their constituent services can sometimes help push unemployment claims through when they're stuck. Just Google "Florida state representative" plus your zip code, call their office, and explain your situation. Many have staff dedicated to helping with DEO issues specifically because so many Floridians have these problems. They won't be able to get you an immediate answer, but they can sometimes escalate cases that have been pending for an unreasonable amount of time.

this actually worked for my cousin! took about a week but better than nothin

UPDATE: I finally got through to DEO using Claimyr this morning (took about 35 minutes but that's way better than never). Turns out there was a discrepancy between my reported last day of work and what my employer reported - off by just TWO DAYS. The agent was able to verify my information, and my claim has been moved from adjudication to processing! The agent said I should see payments for all 6 weeks within 2-3 business days. I'm almost afraid to believe it, but this seems like real progress. Thank you all for your help and suggestions!

That's great news! And sadly so typical of DEO to hold up benefits for weeks over a 2-day discrepancy that could have been resolved in 5 minutes if they had just called you. Glad you're finally getting your benefits!

So happy for you! Make sure to keep checking your CONNECT account and your bank account for the deposits. Sometimes they come in separate batches.
