DEO adjudication nightmare - 10 weeks on hold for 6 months with no contact

I'm at my wits end trying to get someone at DEO to look at my claim. I have 10 weeks showing 'pending-adjudication' on CONNECT and they've been sitting there for almost 6 months now! I've called the 1-800 number probably 50 times, and either get disconnected or speak to a rep who just says 'we don't have timeframes for adjudication' and can't transfer me to anyone who can actually help. I've uploaded all requested documents months ago. I've sent emails to the adjudication department. I've even tried contacting my state rep. Nothing works! The bills are piling up and I'm about to lose my apartment. How on earth do you actually get in contact with an adjudicator who can resolve these holds? Has anyone successfully broken through this wall of silence?

omg same boat here!! 7 weeks on hold for 4 months. its ridiculous. i tried emailing them at that special email they have for adjudication issues but nobody ever responds. one lady on the phone told me just to 'be patient' lol like how am i supposed to pay rent being patient??

Exactly! Being patient doesn't pay the electric bill. Did the rep give you any kind of timeline at all? The ones I talk to act like they have no idea how long it could take.

I was in your situation last year (8 weeks held for 5 months). The key is understanding that regular DEO reps CAN'T help with adjudication - they literally don't have access to those systems. You need to: 1. Call and specifically request an "escalation" to a supervisor (use that exact word) 2. When you talk to the supervisor, ask for your claim to be marked for "expedited adjudication review" due to financial hardship 3. Send a detailed email to DEO.Adjudication@deo.myflorida.com with your claimant ID, last 4 of SSN, and explanation of hardship 4. In CONNECT, check if there's a specific issue listed under "Determinations, Pending Issues and Decision Summary" - you need to address exactly what's holding things up Hope this helps! The system is frustrating but there are ways through it.

Thank you so much for this detailed advice! I didn't know about asking for an "escalation" specifically. I'll try calling again tomorrow with these exact words. The CONNECT section you mentioned does show "Pending Issue: Employment Status" but nothing else - no details on what they need from me.

Honestly the DEO is THE WORST!!! Ive been fighting them for 8 months. they lost my documents TWICE and then blamed me for not sending them!! the whole system is designed to make u give up. DON'T GIVE UP!!!

I'm definitely not giving up, but it's so draining. Did you eventually get your issues resolved after 8 months? I'm curious what finally worked for you.

After struggling for months with a similar situation (9 weeks held in adjudication), I finally had success using Claimyr to get through to an actual DEO agent who could help. Regular calling just got me nowhere - always disconnects or 3+ hour hold times that dropped. With Claimyr (claimyr.com), they got me connected to a real agent in about 20 minutes who was able to see exactly what was causing my adjudication hold and escalate it properly. They have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj The key was getting to someone who could actually see the notes on my account and tell me specifically what was holding things up - turned out it was a former employer disputing my claim, which nobody had bothered to tell me about.

Thanks for this suggestion. I'd heard about Claimyr before but wasn't sure if it was legit. Did the agent you reached actually solve your problem or just give you more information? I'm willing to try anything at this point.

The agent didn't instantly fix my claim, but they saw the actual reason for the hold (which regular reps couldn't see) and escalated it properly. My adjudication was completed about 10 days later. Having the specific reason made all the difference because I could address it directly.

Just so you know, "Employment Status" in Pending Issues typically means they're questioning whether you were an employee or independent contractor, OR if you were fired, quit, or laid off. That issue can definitely take months to resolve because they have to contact your former employer multiple times if they don't respond. One thing that helped me: Call exactly at 7:30am when they open. Select the option for PIN reset even if you don't need one. Those agents can sometimes see more details and transfer you to someone who can help with adjudication issues. Also, contact your state representative - seriously. My case was stuck for 4 months until my state rep's office intervened.

Thank you for explaining what the "Employment Status" issue might mean! That makes sense since I was doing some contractor work before my regular job. I'll definitely try the PIN reset trick - that's a great tip that I haven't heard before.

hey has anyone tried going to the actual DEO office in person?? I heard somewhere that you can go to your local CareerSource office and they sometimes have DEO people there on certain days. might be worth checking out?

You're right about CareerSource! Many locations have DEO staff on-site on specific days, but it varies by county. Call your local CareerSource office first to confirm which days DEO staff are available. Bring all your documentation including ID, social security card, and any relevant correspondence. The in-person DEO reps often have more authority to resolve issues than phone agents.

I appreciate the honesty. I've been applying for jobs too, but still need the benefits I'm owed for those weeks. The whole system does feel designed to make people give up.

UPDATE: I followed the advice from this thread and FINALLY got my adjudication resolved after 6 months of waiting! What worked was a combination of: 1. Using Claimyr to actually reach a higher-tier agent who could see the specific issue (turns out my former employer claimed I quit when I was actually laid off) 2. Emailing my state representative with a detailed account of my situation including all the dates/times I had attempted to contact DEO 3. Visiting my local CareerSource office where they had a DEO rep on Tuesdays who could access the adjudication system The CareerSource visit was what ultimately broke through. The DEO rep there submitted an emergency review request based on financial hardship (I brought utility shut-off notices), and my claim was resolved within 5 business days after that. Don't give up - be persistent and try ALL avenues. The system seems designed to make people give up, but if you keep pushing, you CAN get results.

This is amazing! Thank you so much for coming back to update us. I'm going to follow your exact steps. I already called my CareerSource and they have DEO reps on Thursdays, so I'll be there this week with all my documentation. Congratulations on getting your issue resolved!

I'm dealing with something similar - 8 weeks pending adjudication for 3 months now. Reading through all these responses is both frustrating and hopeful. It's crazy how broken this system is, but seeing that @Steven Adams finally got resolution gives me hope. I'm definitely going to try the CareerSource route - called mine today and they have DEO staff on Wednesdays. Also going to look into Claimyr since multiple people mentioned it worked for them. @Lucy Lam - your persistence is inspiring! Keep us posted on how the Thursday visit goes. We shouldn't have to jump through all these hoops just to get benefits we're entitled to, but at least we're helping each other figure out the system.

@Aisha Jackson Thank you so much for the encouragement! It really helps to know we re'all supporting each other through this mess. I m'planning to be at my CareerSource first thing Thursday morning with everything organized - all my documentation, the timeline of my attempts to contact DEO, and proof of financial hardship. I ll'definitely update everyone on how it goes. It s'ridiculous that we have to become detectives just to access our own benefits, but at least we re'sharing what works. Good luck with your Wednesday visit! Fingers crossed we both get some real progress soon.

Wow, reading through all these experiences really shows how widespread this problem is! I'm currently at 6 weeks pending adjudication for about 2 months now, and like everyone else, I keep getting the runaround from phone reps who can't actually help. @Steven Adams your success story gives me real hope - I had no idea about the CareerSource option! I'm calling mine tomorrow to find out when DEO staff are available. @Grace Durand I'm also going to look into Claimyr since you and others had success with it. It's infuriating that we have to become experts in navigating this broken system just to get what we're legally entitled to, but I'm grateful for this community sharing what actually works. The solidarity here is keeping me motivated to keep fighting instead of just giving up like they clearly want us to do.

@Freya Collins I m'so glad this thread is helping people! It s'honestly heartbreaking how many of us are dealing with the same nightmare. When I first posted, I felt so alone and frustrated, but seeing everyone share their strategies and support each other has been incredible. The fact that we have to become experts just to access our own benefits is absolutely ridiculous, but at least we re'figuring it out together. I m'keeping notes on everyone s'advice - the CareerSource route, Claimyr, specific language to use with reps, calling at 7:30am, etc. It s'like we re'building our own survival guide for this broken system. Please keep us updated on how your CareerSource visit goes! We re'all rooting for each other here.

This thread has been incredibly helpful! I'm dealing with 12 weeks pending adjudication for about 5 months now - longest I've seen mentioned here. Reading everyone's experiences and solutions gives me hope that there IS a way through this maze. I've tried the regular phone route dozens of times with no luck, but I hadn't heard about the CareerSource option or Claimyr before finding this discussion. @Steven Adams - your step-by-step breakdown and success story is exactly what I needed to see! I'm calling my local CareerSource tomorrow to find out their DEO schedule. @Grace Durand and others who mentioned Claimyr - I'm definitely looking into that too since multiple people had success with it. It's both comforting and infuriating to see how many of us are stuck in the same broken system. The fact that we have to crowdsource solutions just to access benefits we're legally entitled to is absolutely insane. But I'm so grateful for this community sharing what actually works instead of just complaining (though we have every right to complain!). Will definitely update once I try these strategies. Thank you all for not giving up and sharing your knowledge!

@Max Reyes 12 weeks for 5 months is absolutely brutal - I m'so sorry you ve'been stuck that long! But you re'right, this thread has become like our own survival guide for navigating DEO s'broken system. It s'crazy that we have to become researchers and strategists just to get our own benefits, but at least we re'helping each other figure it out. I m'really hoping the CareerSource route works for you - it seems to be the most successful strategy from what everyone s'shared. The fact that in-person DEO reps have more authority makes total sense, even though it shouldn t'be this hard to access them. Definitely keep us posted on how it goes! We re'all in this fight together, and seeing people like @Steven Adams succeed after months of struggle gives me hope that persistence really does pay off eventually.
