Stuck in DEO limbo for 9 months - completed adjudication interview but payments never started

I'm at my wit's end with DEO! My claim has been active since January 2025 (9 months ago!) and I haven't received a SINGLE payment yet. I completed an adjudication interview back in April where the agent specifically told me 'you should start seeing payments in 7-10 business days' - that was 5 months ago! Every time I call, I get transferred between departments until someone eventually hangs up on me. Last week, a helpful agent sent an email to the adjudication department asking why there's no end date for my hold, but I've heard nothing back. My CONNECT account still shows 'pending adjudication' on every claimed week. I've burned through my savings and am facing eviction next month if something doesn't change. Has anyone else been stuck in this ridiculous limbo? Did anything actually help you get your benefits flowing?

Same thing happened to me earlier this year. After my interview, I waited 2 months with nothing happening. What finally worked was contacting my state representative's office. I filled out their constituent services form explaining my situation, and within 10 days I got a call from someone at DEO who actually had authority to fix things. My payments started the next day, including all my backpay. Don't waste more time with the regular call center - they have zero power to help with adjudication issues.

Thank you for this suggestion! Do you know how I find my state rep's contact info? And did you have to provide any specific details in the form? I'm desperate to try anything at this point...

Just Google "Florida find my state representative" and there's a website where you enter your address. For the form, I included my claimant ID, the date I filed, when I had my interview, and how many weeks were pending. I also mentioned I was facing eviction, which was true. They can't help everyone, but adjudication delays are exactly the kind of thing they can often fix.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. DEO's system is completely broken. I recommend trying Claimyr (claimyr.com) - it's a service that gets you through to an actual DEO agent without the endless busy signals and disconnects. They have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj Once you get a live agent, specifically ask for a "supervisor referral for adjudication stuck with no resolution after interview." Regular agents have limited access, but supervisors can escalate to the right team. Be prepared with your claimant ID and the exact date of your interview. This worked for me after being stuck for 3 months.

i tried claimyr last week for a different issue and it actually worked! got thru to someone in like 20 mins instead of being on hold for hours only to get hung up on lol. but def ask for supervisor, regular agents are useless for adjudication stuff

Thank you! I'll check out Claimyr today. At this point I'd try anything to get this fixed. I'll definitely ask for a supervisor when I get through.

THE DEO IS A COMPLETE JOKE!!! I went through EXACTLY the same thing last year. They will LIE to your face about payments coming soon. The adjudication department doesn't even READ those emails the agents send! The whole system is designed to frustrate you into giving up!! I ended up having to file an appeal after waiting 7 months - only THEN did someone actually look at my case.

While it can definitely be frustrating, filing an appeal when your claim is still in adjudication actually resets the entire process and can make things take even longer. Appeals are only for when you've received an actual determination letter that denies benefits. For adjudication delays, contacting your state representative or getting through to a supervisor are better options.

Well that's what FINALLY worked for ME after nothing else did! These DEO people don't care about rules or procedures, they just want us to go away!

There's actually a specific process for claims stuck in adjudication past 21 days (which is the federal standard for how long adjudication should take). Ask for a "Manager Escalation for Aged Adjudication" when you speak to a DEO agent. This puts your claim in a different queue for supervisory review. Also, make sure there are no outstanding fact-finding questionnaires in your CONNECT inbox that need to be completed - sometimes the system doesn't notify you about them, but they can cause indefinite holds. When you call, have these pieces of information ready: 1. Your claimant ID number 2. The exact date of your adjudication interview 3. The name of the agent who conducted the interview (if you remember) 4. A list of all weeks claimed that are pending If you get nowhere after trying the supervisor escalation, then contacting your state representative is definitely the next best step.

Thank you for the detailed advice! I just checked my CONNECT inbox and there are no questionnaires there - it's completely empty. I'll definitely try asking for the "Manager Escalation for Aged Adjudication" specifically. Do I need to mention anything about the 21-day federal standard when I call?

You don't need to mention the 21-day standard specifically - the supervisors are well aware of it. Just be clear and firm that your adjudication has been pending for over 9 months despite completing an interview, and you need a resolution. Polite persistence is key. Document every call with the date, time, and agent ID number. This creates a paper trail that can help if you end up needing to escalate further.

have u checked ur account for identity issues? sometimes the adjudication is stuck bcuz of id.me problems even if u did the verification. look under the determination tab in connect & see if theres anything about identity verification there

I just looked and don't see anything about identity verification under the determination tab. I completed ID.me back when I first filed in January and it shows as verified in my account. The pending issues just say "Adjudication" with no other details.

I work with a nonprofit that helps people navigate unemployment issues, and unfortunately your situation is all too common. The DEO is severely understaffed in their adjudication department, which is why these delays happen. Here's what I recommend: 1. Call early in the morning (7:30-8:00am) when the queues are shortest 2. When you reach an agent, first ask if there are any notes on your account about why the adjudication is still pending 3. Request a "case monitoring escalation" - this is different from a regular escalation and places your claim on a weekly review list 4. If that doesn't work within 2 weeks, contact your state representative AND state senator (doing both creates more pressure) 5. As a last resort, you can file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Labor about the violation of the 21-day federal standard Keep claiming your weeks religiously during this process. If you miss claiming any weeks, it can further complicate your case.

Yes, you can file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration. Look up "DOL ETA UI complaint" and you'll find their complaint form. However, I strongly recommend trying the state representative route first, as it typically gets faster results. The DOL complaint process can take several months but does eventually force state action.

UPDATE: I finally got through to DEO today after using Claimyr (thanks for that suggestion). The supervisor looked at my account and found that my adjudication was actually completed back in JUNE but nobody ever removed the hold flag from my account! She said this happens sometimes when the adjudicator completes the determination but forgets to release the payments. She removed the hold and said I should see all my backpay within 2-3 business days. I'm cautiously optimistic but not celebrating until I see the money in my account. Will update again when/if the payments come through. Thank you all for your help and suggestions!

That's great news! This exact same thing happened to a friend of mine. The adjudication was complete but the payment flag was never removed. Definitely update us when the money hits your account!

This is unfortunately a common error in their system. Make sure to check your CONNECT account daily - if you don't see the status change from "Pending" to "Paid" within 3 business days, call back immediately and reference today's call and supervisor interaction. Document everything including the supervisor's name/ID if you have it.
