DEO adjudication determination taking 30+ days - normal wait time?
Hi everyone. I started my FL unemployment claim about a month ago and it's been stuck in adjudication ever since. The CONNECT system just says 'pending adjudication' but doesn't explain what's being reviewed or how long it might take. I've been claiming my weeks religiously and doing the 5 required work searches, but nothing is moving forward. No payments at all yet. Is this normal for DEO to take 30+ days for an adjudication determination? My rent is due in a week and I'm seriously stressing out. My former employer contested the claim (I was laid off due to department restructuring), so maybe that's why? Called the DEO number 14 times this week but just get the busy signal or it hangs up. Any idea how much longer I should expect to wait? Or what I can do to speed things up?

•Seriously? 37 days?? That's insane. Have you tried contacting your state representative? I'm wondering if that's my next step.

Unfortunately, this is pretty common with Florida DEO, especially when an employer contests the claim. The adjudication process requires a fact-finding interview where they gather information from both sides. Your former employer contesting it definitely slows things down. In my experience, adjudication can take anywhere from 3-8 weeks in Florida. When my department was eliminated last year, it took 6 weeks for my determination to come through. Keep claiming your weeks even while waiting for the determination - if approved, you'll get retroactive payments for all eligible weeks. Have you received any fact-finding questionnaires in your CONNECT inbox or been scheduled for a phone interview yet? Those are usually good signs that your case is moving forward.

•Thanks for the detailed response. No, I haven't received any questionnaires or been scheduled for an interview yet - just radio silence. The uncertainty is the worst part. I'll keep claiming weeks though, that's good advice.

Mine was stuck in adjudication for EIGHT WEEKS because my former employer claimed I was fired for misconduct when I was actually laid off!!! I couldn't get ANYONE on the phone and almost lost my apartment. The system is COMPLETELY BROKEN. Keep claiming your weeks and document EVERYTHING. Take screenshots of your work searches and save all emails from employers. They might try to say you didn't look for work properly even when you did!!

•Omg this happened to my sister too! They claimed misconduct but it was totally a layoff. DEO is seriously the worst.

I understand your frustration with the adjudication waiting period. The standard timeframe for DEO adjudication is currently 4-6 weeks, but it can extend to 8+ weeks during busy periods or with complex cases. When an employer contests a claim, it automatically triggers a more thorough review. Here are a few suggestions that might help: 1. Check your CONNECT inbox daily for any fact-finding questionnaires that need to be completed 2. Make sure your contact information is current in CONNECT so you don't miss any phone interviews 3. Continue to claim your weeks on time and complete all work search requirements 4. Send a message through your CONNECT account specifically asking about the status of your adjudication 5. Contact your local CareerSource office - sometimes they have direct lines to DEO staff who can check on claim status As for contacting DEO directly, I know the regular number is nearly impossible to get through. I'd recommend trying Claimyr (claimyr.com) - they have a service that helps you get through to an actual DEO agent. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj that shows how it works. It helped me get through when my account was locked last month.

•Thank you for these tips! I didn't know about CareerSource having direct lines - I'll try them tomorrow. I'll check out that Claimyr service too. At this point, I just need to talk to an actual human at DEO who can tell me what's going on.

I waited 45 days for my adjudication decision and no one would tell me why it was taking so long. The system is completely broken. Have u tried contacting ur state representative? That's what finally got mine moving after sitting with no updates for over a month.

•45 days is ridiculous! I'm going to contact my state rep tomorrow. Did you just call their office or did you email them? I'm not sure what information they'll need from me.

•I emailed mine with my full name, claimant ID, last 4 of SSN, and a brief explanation of my situation. She had a staff person who handles DEO issues, and they contacted DEO directly. Got a call from DEO 2 days later! Way faster than anything else I tried.

wait is this adjudication different from the appeal process? i got denied and filed an appeal but now I'm confused if thats the same thing or different???

•They're different. Adjudication happens before the initial determination - it's the investigation process where DEO gathers facts about your claim. Appeals happen after you receive a determination you disagree with. So the OP is still waiting for their first determination, while you're in the appeals process after already receiving a denial determination.

I just went through this last month and it FINALLY resolved after 5 weeks. What worked for me was calling at exactly 7:30am when they first open - that's the only time I could get through. Tried that Claimyr thing someone mentioned above and it actually worked, got me to a real person who could see what was holding things up.

•What did they say was causing the delay in your case? Was there anything specific you needed to do to move it forward?

•Turns out they were missing wage information from one of my employers! The DEO agent sent a request for that info while I was on the phone, and my claim was approved 4 days later. The frustrating thing is I would have NEVER known that without talking to someone.

UPDATE: Just tried that Claimyr thing someone mentioned and IT ACTUALLY WORKED!!! Got through to a real agent who said my adjudication was delayed because they needed additional proof of employment that was never requested in my CONNECT inbox!!! No idea how I was supposed to know that. The agent helped me upload the documents through CONNECT while on the phone. Might be worth trying if you're still stuck!

My wife just got a job at DEO and says they are SUPER backed up right now because they're transitioning to a new system. She says adjudication is taking closer to 45-60 days for most people currently. Sucks but at least you know its not just you!

•Ugh, that's even longer than I thought. Thanks for the insider info though. At least it helps to know it's a system-wide issue.

UPDATE: Thanks everyone for your advice! I used Claimyr this morning and actually got through to a DEO agent after waiting only 12 minutes (literally tried calling normally for weeks with no success). Turns out they were waiting on my former employer to respond to their request for information - the agent sent them a follow-up and said if they don't respond within 7 days, they'll process my determination without their input. Also got scheduled for a fact-finding interview next week. Finally some progress!

•That's great news! The fact-finding interview is a really good sign that things are moving forward. Make sure you have documentation ready about your layoff (any emails or paperwork) and be ready to clearly explain what happened. The main things they want to confirm are that you lost your job through no fault of your own and that you're able and available to work.

•So glad you got some movement on your case! I've been following this thread because I'm dealing with a similar situation. Quick question - did Claimyr charge you anything to help get through to DEO? I'm willing to pay if it actually works, but want to make sure it's legit before I try it.

•Yes, Claimyr does charge a fee - I think it was around $20 for the service. Honestly, after weeks of trying to get through on my own and the stress of not knowing what was happening with my claim, it was totally worth it. The service connects you to their system that automatically redials DEO until someone picks up, then transfers you to a real agent. Much better than sitting there hitting redial for hours myself! Just make sure you have your claimant ID and all your info ready when you use it.

This thread has been so helpful! I'm in week 6 of adjudication myself and was starting to panic. Reading everyone's experiences makes me feel less alone in this mess. @Lena Kowalski glad you finally got some movement on your case! For anyone else still waiting, I wanted to add that I found out you can also check the status by looking at your "Monetary Determination" in CONNECT - if it shows $0 for weekly benefit amount, that usually means adjudication is still pending. If it shows an actual dollar amount, it means they've at least processed your wages and you're just waiting for the eligibility determination. Small thing but it helped me understand where I was in the process.

•Thanks for that tip about checking the Monetary Determination! I just looked and mine actually shows a dollar amount, so I guess that's progress even though I'm still stuck in adjudication. It's crazy how little information they give us about where we stand in the process. This whole thread has been a lifesaver - makes me feel way less stressed knowing I'm not the only one dealing with these ridiculous wait times.

I'm currently in week 4 of adjudication myself and this thread has been incredibly helpful! My claim got flagged because there was some confusion about whether I was laid off or quit (I was definitely laid off due to budget cuts). The waiting is absolutely brutal, especially when you have bills piling up. I've been doing the work searches religiously but it's hard to stay motivated when you don't know if you'll even get approved. Going to try that Claimyr service tomorrow based on all the positive feedback here. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - it really helps to know we're not alone in this mess!

•I'm in almost the exact same situation as you - week 3 of adjudication after being laid off due to budget cuts, and the stress is unreal. It's so frustrating when you know you were legitimately laid off but the system treats every case like it's suspicious. I've been hearing great things about Claimyr from multiple people in this thread, so I think I'm going to bite the bullet and try it too. The $20 fee seems worth it if it can actually get me to talk to someone who can tell me what's going on with my case. Keep us posted on how it goes for you! We're definitely all in this together.

I'm in week 5 of adjudication and this thread has been a huge help! My employer also contested my claim even though I was clearly laid off (company downsizing). The stress of not knowing what's happening while bills pile up is overwhelming. After reading all the success stories with Claimyr, I'm definitely going to try it tomorrow. It sounds like most people's delays are caused by missing information that DEO never bothers to tell us about - which is absolutely ridiculous. @Lena Kowalski so glad you finally got some answers and movement on your case! Gives me hope that mine will eventually get resolved too. For anyone else still waiting, we just have to keep pushing and advocating for ourselves since the system clearly won't do it for us.

•I'm so sorry you're going through this too! Week 5 is brutal - I can't imagine the stress you must be feeling. It's absolutely infuriating that DEO doesn't proactively communicate what they need from us, and we have to play detective to figure out why our cases are stalled. The fact that so many of us are dealing with employer contests on legitimate layoffs shows how broken this system really is. I really hope Claimyr works for you like it did for others here. Keep claiming your weeks and documenting everything - from what I've read, if you do get approved, you'll get backpay for all the weeks you've been waiting. Hang in there, and please update us when you try Claimyr! We're definitely stronger when we share information and support each other through this nightmare.

I'm in week 2 of adjudication and this entire thread has been a lifesaver! I was starting to panic thinking something was wrong with my specific case, but now I see this is just how broken the DEO system is. My employer also contested my claim even though I was laid off due to company restructuring - seems like that's becoming a common tactic to delay payments. Reading about everyone's success with Claimyr has convinced me to try it this week. The $20 fee is definitely worth it if it means actually talking to a human who can tell me what's holding up my case. Thank you all for sharing your experiences and tips - it's so much better knowing we're not going through this alone. I'll make sure to update everyone once I try Claimyr and hopefully get some answers about my adjudication status!

•You're definitely not alone in this! It's honestly shocking how many employers are contesting legitimate layoffs - it seems like they know it'll slow down the process and maybe discourage people from pursuing their claims. Week 2 isn't too bad yet compared to some of the horror stories here, but I totally get the anxiety of not knowing what's happening. The lack of transparency from DEO is the worst part - we shouldn't have to pay a third-party service just to find out basic information about our own cases! Definitely try Claimyr based on all the success stories here. And make sure you're keeping detailed records of everything - screenshots of your CONNECT account, copies of all your work search activities, any correspondence with your former employer about the layoff. From what I've learned in this thread, documentation is key if there are any issues down the road. Keep us posted on how it goes!

I'm currently in week 3 of adjudication and this thread has given me so much hope! My case is also stuck because my former employer contested it (I was laid off when they closed my entire department). Like everyone else here, I've been getting nowhere with the regular DEO phone lines - just busy signals and hangups. After reading all the success stories with Claimyr, I'm definitely going to try it first thing tomorrow morning. It's ridiculous that we have to pay a third-party service just to get basic information about our own claims, but at this point I'm willing to try anything. The financial stress is getting overwhelming and I just need to know what's actually happening with my case. Thank you all for sharing your experiences - it's such a relief to know this isn't just happening to me and that there might actually be a way to get through to someone who can help!

•I'm in the exact same boat - week 4 of adjudication here and the stress is absolutely crushing. It's wild how many of us are dealing with employers contesting legitimate layoffs. I've been reading through this entire thread and everyone's Claimyr success stories have convinced me to try it too. The fact that we have to pay to get basic information about our own cases is infuriating, but if it actually works like it did for @Lena Kowalski and others, it ll'be worth every penny. The not knowing is honestly the worst part - I can handle waiting if I at least know why I m'waiting and what comes next. Please update us after you try Claimyr tomorrow! I'm in week 6 of adjudication and this thread has been such a relief to find! My employer contested my claim after I was laid off due to company downsizing, and I've been stuck in limbo ever since. Like so many others here, I can't get through on the regular DEO phone lines no matter how many times I try. Reading everyone's success stories with Claimyr has given me hope - I'm going to try it tomorrow morning. It's frustrating that we have to pay a third-party service just to get basic information about our own cases, but at this point the $20 fee seems like a bargain if it means actually talking to someone who can tell me what's going on. The financial stress is really getting to me, especially not knowing if there's missing documentation or what's actually causing the delay. Thank you all for sharing your experiences and tips - it's so helpful to know I'm not alone in dealing with this broken system!

•Week 6 is brutal - I can't imagine how stressful that must be! It's honestly mind-blowing how broken this system is and how many of us are dealing with the exact same issues. The employer contest situation seems to be happening to almost everyone in this thread, which makes me wonder if companies are doing this intentionally to delay payments. Definitely try Claimyr tomorrow - based on all the success stories here, it seems like the only reliable way to actually reach a human at DEO. I'm planning to try it myself this week too. The $20 fee is annoying but honestly seems worth it if it saves us weeks of additional waiting and stress. Keep claiming your weeks and documenting everything while you wait - from what others have said, you should get backpay for all the weeks if you're approved. Please update us on how it goes with Claimyr! We're all rooting for each other to get through this nightmare.

I'm in week 4 of adjudication myself and this thread has been incredibly helpful! My situation is almost identical - laid off due to company restructuring, employer contested the claim, and I've been stuck in limbo ever since with zero communication from DEO about what they actually need or when this might resolve. The financial stress is really getting to me, especially with rent and other bills piling up while I wait for someone to review my case. After reading all the success stories here with Claimyr, I'm definitely going to try it tomorrow morning. It's absolutely ridiculous that we have to pay a third-party service just to get basic information about our own unemployment claims, but at this point I'm willing to try anything that actually works. The regular DEO phone lines are completely useless - I've tried calling dozens of times and either get a busy signal or it just hangs up. Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences and tips, especially @Lena Kowalski for the updates on your progress! It gives me hope that there might actually be light at the end of this tunnel. •I'm so sorry you're going through this too! Week 4 is really tough and I completely understand the financial stress - it's awful when you're dealing with bills piling up and have no idea when relief might come. Your situation sounds exactly like what so many of us are facing with these employer contests on legitimate layoffs. It really does seem like companies know this will slow things down significantly. I'm planning to try Claimyr this week too based on all the positive feedback in this thread. It's frustrating that we have to pay to access our own information, but if it actually gets us to a real person who can explain what's happening, it'll be worth it. Please keep us updated on how it goes for you! This thread has become such a lifeline for all of us navigating this nightmare system together.

I'm in week 7 of adjudication and this thread has been such a godsend - I was starting to think I was the only one dealing with this nightmare! My employer also contested my claim after laying me off due to "budget constraints," and I haven't been able to get through to a single human at DEO despite calling every single day for the past month. The financial stress is becoming unbearable - my savings are completely depleted and I'm behind on rent. Reading everyone's success stories with Claimyr has given me the first real hope I've had in weeks. I'm going to try it first thing tomorrow morning, even though it kills me to have to pay just to get information about my own case. @Lena Kowalski thank you so much for sharing your updates throughout this process - it's been incredibly helpful to see someone actually make progress! •Week 7 is absolutely brutal - I can't even imagine how exhausted and stressed you must be feeling right now. The fact that your savings are completely gone and you're behind on rent while waiting for DEO to do their job is just heartbreaking. It's criminal how this system treats people who are already in vulnerable situations. Your employer contesting a legitimate layoff due to "budget constraints" is infuriating - it seems like so many companies are using this tactic knowing it'll create massive delays. I'm really hoping Claimyr works for you tomorrow like it did for others in this thread. Even though paying for basic information about our own cases is ridiculous, at this point we have to do whatever it takes to survive this broken system. Please hang in there and definitely update us after you try Claimyr. You've made it through 7 weeks already - you're stronger than you know. We're all rooting for you and sending positive thoughts that you finally get some real answers and movement on your case tomorrow!

I'm currently in week 5 of adjudication and this thread has been absolutely invaluable! My situation mirrors so many others here - laid off due to company downsizing, employer contested the claim, and complete radio silence from DEO despite daily attempts to call. The stress of not knowing what's happening while bills pile up is just overwhelming. After reading all the positive experiences with Claimyr throughout this thread, I'm convinced it's worth trying. It's infuriating that we have to pay a third-party service to access basic information about our own cases, but the alternative seems to be waiting indefinitely with zero communication. The regular DEO phone system is completely broken - I've literally never gotten through to a human being despite trying for weeks. What really strikes me reading everyone's stories is how similar our situations are - legitimate layoffs being contested, employers using this as a delay tactic, and DEO's complete lack of transparency about what they actually need from us. It shouldn't take a paid service to find out that they're missing documentation they never told us about! Thank you to everyone sharing their experiences and updates, especially those who've had success with Claimyr. It gives the rest of us hope that there might actually be a way through this nightmare. I'll definitely update once I try the service myself - we're all stronger when we support each other through this broken system!
