FTB LLC Suspension: How to reinstate after 2023 tax issues? (No notices received yet)
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. My LLC got suspended and I'm trying to figure out how to reinstate it. It's related to some tax issues from 2023. I haven't received any notices from the FTB yet, but I know I need to get this sorted out. Has anyone gone through this process before? Any tips on what I should ask or do when I finally get through to an FTB agent? I'm feeling pretty lost here.

Oof, been there done that. First things first, gather ALL your tax docs for 2023. When you get an agent on the line, be super clear about wanting to reinstate your suspended LLC. Ask them exactly what forms you need to file and if there are any specific payments you gotta make. Good luck!

•Thanks for the advice! Do you remember how long the whole process took for you?

•It took me about 2 months from start to finish, but I was on top of everything. Just don't drag your feet on any paperwork they ask for!

•2 months? 😱 That's actually not bad. I've heard horror stories of it taking way longer.

Pro tip: If you haven't received any notices, it might be worth checking if your mailing address is up to date with the FTB. Sometimes these things get lost in the mail and then you're left in the dark.

Ugh, the FTB is such a pain to deal with. I swear they make everything 10x more complicated than it needs to be. 🙄

Here's what you need to do: 1. Get all your 2023 tax docs together 2. Check for any unpaid taxes or unfiled returns 3. Fill out Form FTB 3557 LLC - Application for Certificate of Revivor 4. Pay any outstanding taxes and penalties 5. File any missing tax returns 6. Submit the form and wait for processing It's a bit of a process, but stay on top of it and you'll be fine. Don't forget to ask about any possible penalty abatements when you talk to them!

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at the FTB without waiting for hours. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/XbqD8mexcoQ

•Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work?

•Yeah, it actually does! Saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo.

•@profile 14 I get the skepticism, but time is money. I'd rather pay $20 than waste half my day on hold. 🤷♂️

Have you considered hiring a tax professional to handle this for you? Sometimes it's worth paying someone who knows all the ins and outs.

•I've thought about it, but I'm trying to save money where I can. Maybe if I strike out on my own I'll go that route.

Just went thru this last year. Whatever you do, DON'T ignore any deadlines they give you. Those penalties stack up fast! 💸

@Muhammad Hobbs, I just went through this exact situation with my LLC last year! The key thing is to act fast even without notices. Call the FTB business line at (888) 792-4900 and ask specifically for the "LLC Suspension Department." When you get through, have your EIN ready and ask them to pull up your account status. They'll tell you exactly what's missing - usually it's the annual LLC fee ($800) and any unfiled tax returns. Don't be surprised if there are penalties on top of the base amount. The good news is you can often get penalty relief if you have reasonable cause. Get everything in writing and follow up if they promise to mail you anything - their mail system can be slow. Good luck! 🍀
